About the property

Home with 3 bedrooms and 3 bath, with Ocean & Sunsets view: close to the beach

Are you looking for a modern home that offers many things to your Vacation?

This is it!

Luxurious, Ocean-view private home with easy access. The home has a modern and open floor design, an updated terrace to offer you outdoor living, an infinity pool and great Ocean and Sunset views.

Concierge: We offer 24/7 concierge services.

Location: Just 25 minutes South of the local Airport and the most Popular National Park Manuel Antonio. Flying into San Jose? The home is approximately 3 1/2 hour drive along the Coastal Highway.

Location and Arrival: The home is conveniently located in a small town called Matapalo, a short drive off Highway 34, the main Coastal Highway that runs between Quepos and Dominical. Your co-host Josue will meet you at a popular restaurant, called “La Langoste Feliz” (The Happy Lobster). This restaurant comes up on Google Maps if you search by that name. Please let Josue know what time you will arrive so that he can meet you and take you to the home.

What’s around? If you enjoy experiencing local culture while still enjoying all the comforts of a modern home then you’ve come to the right place!

Surfing, Boogie Boarding: There is surfing and boogie boarding at the beach in Matapalo or enjoy world class surfing at Dominical, just a 15mn drive South on Highway 34. There is also a supermarket, restaurants and cute shops there.

Just looking to relax or swim with young kids? Try going to Playa Linda, another local beach, for some variety. Directions: walk East on the beach from Matapalo Beach (or take a 2mn drive South) until you see 2 cell towers - turn right and you will find Playa Linda.

Zip lining/Zip Rail: There are great zip lines at many spots. You will find billboards with Zip Line offerings all along the Coastal Highway. There is now a zip rail, a new invention in Manuel Antonio. More info here: https://costa-rica-guide.com/activities/zip-rail-canopy-bike/

Jungle Tours: There is a jungle night tour with great reviews in Manuel Antonio. They speak English/German/French. Book at +506 8825 4148 (WhatsApp) +506 2777 7176 or info@nighttourmanuelantonio.com.

Favorite spots to visit: Manuel Antonio Park, Dominical, Playa Ballena and Uvita (amazing coffee shop there!)

Least Favorite Spots to Visit: Quepos - It is hot, crowded and have yet to have a good meal there. But all conveniences (stores, a clinic, dentist, and all municipal offices) are there. Otherwise it’s just a place to pass on the way to Manuel Antonio.

BUGS: Costa Rica is teaming with wildlife. Some of that unwelcome wildlife (bugs) often makes it into our home. There all kinds of bugs here, from tiny to large ones. Flies, spiders, geckos, even scorpions. Most of them are harmless, but please exercise caution around any insect with which you are not familiar. Shake out your towels and check your shoes before putting them on, (That is life in the Jungle!)

Hospital & Pharmacy: Max Teran Valls is a modern, well equipped hospital with friendly staff just off the highway (on the East side) about a 15mn drive North, toward Quepos. A Pharmacy is located right across the street from the Hospital, and another one inside the hospital.

Laundry: There is a washer and dryer in the laundry room. There is washing detergent available for your use. Please remember to empty the lint compartment after using the dryer.

Security: Overall Matapalo is a sleepy, safe area. Unfortunately, like many beach towns, there is an element of petty thievery. In order to provide a safe environment for you, there are a number of security measures in place: wire fencing around the property, an alarm system and cameras (outdoor only) and safes to keep your valuables and passport(s) in. To be on the safe side, please do not leave valuables around unattended and don’t bring valuables to the beach.

Water: The local water from the tap is fine to drink. If you have a sensitive stomach, purchasing filtered water may be a good idea.

Contact Info: If you have any questions or need any help at all please feel free to get in touch. Text or call Josue at (506) 8923-1250 or email Stacy at stacybrunette@hotmail.com.

Do you use WhatsApp? WhatsApp is a free app that many people use worldwide as the messaging is free. Feel free to use WhatsApp to message Josue as well.

Ocean view + swift access to beach and towns!

  • 5 of 5

We had hoped for a sweeping ocean view with privacy and we were not disappointed. We were delighted the privacy came without being remotely isolated, we were a part of the area with swift access for our local needs and getaways. We enjoyed quick discovery/access to all that was needed for great food, eco-tours (the falls at Nauyaca recommended!), quiet and lazy times on the beach(es) (not just one!) The more immediate beach at Matapalo has really extensive shoreline and was the least crowded of them all that we experienced - we felt privileged. The highway is down below and far enough away for privacy, and although the road noise is there from the deck - it is worth it to have the really stunning ocean view. The home design is modern w/ high ceilings providing a spacious interior; and everything is in good condition. Lastly and just as important the owners were easy to contact for questions and needs, and the instructions and guidance was timely and clear.

Tropical privacy for two

  • 4 of 5

We rented the "glass house' in San Andres (Matapalo) for 10 days in February. As mentioned in the description, it is very private, our main criterion when we look at rentals. We were very, very pleased that we could only see one neighbour and, as Josue pointed out, they couldn't see us, being downhill and behind many trees!

From the pool deck, which faces west the view out to the Pacific is beautiful, if at times just a little noisy because of the highway at the bottom of the hill. This was NOT a problem however.

Thanks for the welcoming touches of fruit bowl, flower arrangement, and coffee!

The house is a 5-10 minute drive down the hill from Matapalo beach which is not touristy and where you can have a long walk.

It is 15-20 minutes from the town of Dominical which is a surf mecca, with several tourist shops, restaurants and bars. Our favourites were Cafe Mono Congo and Phat Noodles which serve a mix of Vietnamese and Thai. The grocery/health food store next door to Mono Congo, Mama Toucan, has a great selection. For general groceries, there is a shop across the highway. We were sorry to have only discovered the restaurant called Fuego on our last day, as it is a little set back off the main road and would have made a great place to eat a special dinner.

We enjoyed the nearby Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary.

Uvita is about 35 minutes from the house and has a large supermarket as well as a good Saturday farmer's market. This is also where the Ballena National Park is situated which has a beautiful beach and some snorkeling. On the day we went, the water was cloudy but we did see several types of fish. In order to walk the "whale's tail", one must go at low tide. We really appreciated the excellent masks, snorkels and fins available at the house, as well as the yoga mats!

On that note, it would be very helpful if the house had a list of local activities, restaurants, etc. available for renters to browse. In all of our years of rentals, this was the only house without one. Yes we can check online, but it is very valuable to have it all written down from the perspective of someone who lives there. Similarly, there was no guest book. We enjoy reading guest books as often renters will comment on their most enjoyed activities and discoveries.

Quick comments about inside the house: as avid readers we found the lighting inadequate and, if there were 6 people, (house has 3 bedrooms), there would not be enough comfortable seating.Thank you!

Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay very much. The only caution I would give you is not to use Google to map it. It will take you way too far up the hill.

The home is gorgeous. It is well built, spacious, well equipped, clean and modern. The view is amazing. You can see the ocean in the distance and a wide expansive piece of scenery below you. The garden is beautiful. Toucans come every day and hop through the trees and the flora is incredible! We felt very safe there. The host is extremely helpful! Ask him about the local beaches. We loved the extra touches (the fresh floral arrangement and the fruit basket).

Beautiful home and great privacy.

  • 4 of 5

This was a great house for our family andfor alone time. Very comfortable but a little removed from the "main drag". You would still be within 30 minutes of some of the most gorgeous beaches and fun spots to explore. Improvements in the internet would be greatly appreciated and a new Washer/Dryer is needed. Otherwise, a great home.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback. Of note, a new washer/dryer unit was purchased within days of this reviewer's notification. With the home being situated in more of a remote location, considered "off the grid" to many, getting a faster internet connection is not possible at this time. this will be kept in mind as the area begins to develop more, however.

Very nice villa with swimming pool overlooking the pacific.Nicely equipped . We stayed for the 6 days and witnessed two toucans,6 capuchin monkeys maybe 7 , green parrots, coatis and frogs and cicadas. The host Joshue very responsive to all issues within timely manner. The villa is conveniently located off hwy 34 but settled amongst rain forest. Close to Manuel Antonio and Uvita, short drive to Pavon Cascades. Enjoyed villa very much and missed it as soon as we moved to Jaco apartament. Highly recommended for two couples or small family.

Amazing villa!! Highly recommend it.

  • 5 of 5

Just got back from an awesome week at the villa. Everythimg was perfect. Josue was very accomodating. We had a hot water problem on the first day and Josue was there and had it fixed within 15 mins. The house had everything we needed and the pool was great. From the deck we saw toucans every morning, a sloth and her baby all week and could see whales in the ocean. Sunsets were amazing. We did hear some traffic from the road below but not when you were in the villa. It was nice to be so close to the road for travelling around the area. I would highly recommend this property.
