Not worth the $
We rented this house while in town for a wedding. The house was reasonably clean, but extremely dated and worn. Hardwood floors were in dire need of refinishing, and a cheap pergo type laminate floor had been installed in a few areas. The carpet upstairs had several spots where there were major snags, and all the walls were in need of paint and showed dirt and wear. Kitchen cabinets and counters were original as well, and in similar condition to the floors with knicks and burn marks. Kitchen appliances had thankfully been updated and were adequate.
All the fixtures/faucets had low water pressure, and again were extremely dated. Lots of white and brass finishes. The landscaping outside was overgrown with weeds and very poorly kept, what shrubs or trees that were there were overgrown and in need of pruning. The exterior lights had incorrect bulbs and would flicker like a 70s discotheque when turned on, making them useless and dangerous if on.
The "shared exit" as the listing says is deceiving, you basically share most of the first floor because of where the exits are. There is not 3 stories available as well, since they live in the basement. One day, the owner came up in her pajamas complaining about our 8 mos old granddaughter crawling on the floor well after 8 in the morning, because she was disturbing their sleep and making too much noise (an 8 mos old crawling, not jumping or running). And early the next morning some gentleman just came walking in the back patio door and went downstairs to see the owner as we were having breakfast.
Overall, a very expensive, disappointing experience. The only reason we gave it two stars is it did allow all 6 adults and one baby to stay under one roof, as opposed to several hotel rooms. That would be the only real positive about the experience. Only met Terry, she seemed nice but they need to decide if they are gong to rent or live in the house. Not both.
Great home, perfect for our group
Our stay was great. Plenty of room for a bridal party to make bouquets and relax before the big day.
They are very happy, and nice family. They follow the house rules, and policy while they stay. Also very appreciated, and respectful.
Nice place and great hosts
Very nice house- plenty of room, clean, and accommodating. Terry and Sammy were excellent hosts, and they even treated us to some hand-prepared Ethiopian coffee.
The home was very accommodating and in a great neighborhood!
I had emailed the owners that depending on whether my husband came with us or not we might be bringing 3 small dogs with us and wanted permission before we agreed to book. The owner agreed that we could have them however about the 4th day after arrival, I received a text that their daughter was coughing and had allergies implying it was because of the dogs and asked us to pay an additional $150 for carpet cleaning fees and they weren't aware the dogs were coming. Most of the floors in the house are hardwood with tile in bathroom and the only area with carpet was the stairs going up to the 2nd floor and the landing on the 2nd floor. The carpet could have used a cleaning before we got there but it was tolerable. The other thing that was a little uncomfortable but that they did mention was that they shared an exit. I read the previous reviews and people said they never really saw the owners. I was thinking perhaps there were two exits and perhaps the owners that lived downstairs didn't always access their exit through the main part of the house but I was incorrect. The owners come right through the front door, through the living room and enter the basement through a door inside your living area. I remember one day, we had left the tv on while going for a walk and when we came back the tv had been shut off. The owners do have complete access to all your personal belongings in the house at all times. Even though the house had a security system, the sliding back door did not lock. The owners were very nice however and we didn't have any problems. They were there to great us when we arrived and also helped us carry in groceries. We did see them several times during our week stay so it was not like they were never around although they were very polite. The pictures of the home are exactly as we found the house to be and very comfortable. They have plenty of dishes although we had to purchase measuring spoons and measuring cups and there was no can opener that worked so if you decide to stay you might want to bring these items along with you if you plan on cooking your meals. I always read the reviews before I book anything and value others guest reviews. I love booking through Home Away and when we are vacationing for a week chose a house vs a hotel. My grand daughter for the 3rd year in a row was playing in the huge softball tournament in Aurora and it was only about 10-15 minutes from the park which was great!
Hello thank you for the comment, but the can opener was in the drower the only spoon measurment we thought we have, but if we don't have, it is easy to provid for the next guest, also the slide door on the back will be done asap. Sorry for the mis -understanding regarding the dogs. Next time will make sure no pets in the house like our policy. Thank you again.
Terry and Sammy were extremely kind and accommodating. Thank you!
