Comforts of Home
My family of 5 stayed in this apartment for a long weekend. It had all the basics for a short term rental. The kitchen is equipped for lite cooking, which is all we needed.
As with most CITY apartments, space is a premium and must be maximized. The layout is well balanced between spacious gathering areas and more cozy personal space. The big bonus here is the 4 bathrooms. We were all able to get showered and dressed simultaneously (with plenty of hot water). This is a 4th floor walk up. The stairs are wide and evenly space. Aside from laziness, injury or a health concern, access shouldn't be an issue.
Location - We never took the bus, so I can't comment on proximity but the subway is only a few blocks away, maybe a 15 minute stroll. There is a grocery store practically just across the street, multiple coffee shops and pizzerias, bars & restaurants in every direction.
Owner & management - David was in contact regularly to answer my questions. He followed up just after we arrived to ensure we were comfortable and again after we left. He also provided contact information for maintenance. All bases were covered.
Overall, the home was clean, comfortable and provided all the basics, plus a few extras. I would definitely stay here again if I returned with my family.
Thank you Valerie, It was a real pleasure having you as a guest.
Perfect apt in great Location!
My booking went smoothly from the beggining to end. Prior to arrival, I spoke with David before arriving and he asked me for my itinerary so that my apt can be ready and they can be there to open the door. We got in around 3pm at the building and David greeted me nicely and helped me up with my things. I loved the apartment! It was cozy and perfectly clean for me and my friends on a bachelorette weekend. We were right in the center of all of the hot spots! The beds were very comfortable and it was so great that they provide towels and dishes. We felt like we were locals living in manhattan.... enjoy
Thank you Raquel, it was a pleasure to have you as a guest.
I hope to see you again in the near future.
Our first bad experience with a VRBO property
We rented apartment #991288 for one week in March 2017 for four adults and two teenagers. It was a very bad experience. We expected so much more. This is not a "2nd floor Unit walk-up building." as posted on the website. A store is located at the ground level, a barber shop at the second level, another apartment at the third level, #991288 is located at the fourth level.
We have rented VRBOS for at least 10 years in southern California and the state of Washington. If a problem occurred, it was always remedied in a timely fashion. Not so this time!
The REALLY ugly!
Signs above each of the four toilets stated
DO NOT THROUGH [sic] TOILET PAPER INSIDE
The owner texted "Please remember that our Customer Service is here to assist you for any maintenance issues at XXX. Not true-balderdash!
The toilet issue was obviously known beforehand! Unfortunately, one toilet was used and it overflowed! The owner wrote than we had three other bathrooms to use.
The apartment had only one trash can and that was in the kitchen. To say we had three other toilets were true, but we were still expected to NOT throw toilet paper in ANY toilet! :( Can you imagine carrying used toilet paper and placing it in the kitchen trash can. By the way, there were not extra trash can liners!
We were originally told that we could pick up the key at a different location. It turned out to be over a mile away. After some texting, the key was given to my daughter-in-law in front of the apartment house.
The furniture was IKEA grade. The seat on the living room sofa kept sliding forward--very uncomfortable.
The TV in the bedroom next to the living room had no cable connection. Our request for a remedy was ignored.
The handle came off the bathroom door nearest the living room making that entrance unusable.
Our bedroom pillows had no cases. We found a few eventually.
Sheets were of very low quality.
I have better towel rags than some of the towels in the apartment.
There was only one dishtowel.
There were no bath mats or hand towels.
The mattresses were of poor quality and very uncomfortable.
One shower door did not have a handle.
One toilet kept running.
Each room needed more hooks. "Closets" were inadequate.
The floor under our bed was covered with a thick layer of dust.
Lots of problems. Completely ignored. Owner outsources issues to "guys" who don't care.
I should have paid attention to the first red flag, which happened days before we arrived. When asked for the door code or access to the apt. we were told to drive to another location, blocks away, to pick up the keys. I explained we were flying in from the SW so after all day travel, and paying $$ for transportation from JFK, we would not be ok with having to do that. Someone ended up meeting us there but it was a hassle.
Walked in to a nice apt, 4 flights of stairs up w/ lots of luggage and went to one of the 4 bathrooms only to see a sign "Please do not throw (spelled through) toilet paper in toilet." My in-laws joined us a few minutes later, arriving from a different destination and unfortunately used the bathroom before we had a chance to alert them to the sign. The toilet in their master bedroom immediately overflowed after first flush. #1. We turned off the water to the tank, called both the owner and the 'the guy' to alert them to the water all over the floor, and that there were not enough towels in the apt to soak up water, and to clarify no TP flushing sign. We were told they had had some plumbing issues. We asked if the expectation was for 6 people to throw away TP after each use for 7 days (there were not even waste baskets in any of the bathrooms) and were told, "Yes, sorry." I texted the next day perhaps different TP, maybe a brand less thick, might help. No response. Then we asked about the standing water and were told we would have to wait until Monday. This was Sat. evening. On Monday, no one called. They did not answer our calls. We were not contacted by them for the rest of our stay.
We realized this was how it was going to be so we didn't bother contacting owner or his guy further. We had a great vacation in spite of apt. The one positive about the apt is it's a great location. The customer service, communication, furniture, kitchen supplies, etc- the typical basic VRBO items, you will not get with this rental. Not even pillow cases, enough towels, clean sheets- standard stuff. Really disappointed with owner. Have used VRBOs for 16 years. Never had anything like this experience.
I apologize for the experience you have encountered during your stay in the apartment. The previous occupant of the apartment had an issue with one of the bathrooms of the apartment and because you have arrived the same day they were checking out over the weekend, we had no one available to fix the issue over the weekend, but please note that this apartment has a total of 4 bathrooms. As of today, I would like to notify the future guests that the issue has been resolved, and that we have stocked the apartment with additional kitchen supplies, towels, linens and toilet paper for future guests. Regarding the check-in, we provide now the entry code for guests arriving late, or over the weekend and leave the keys directly inside the apartment to create a seamless check-in procedure. In the event you would like to stop by New York the next time, I will be offering you a discount as a compensation. Thank you again for staying with us and I am glad you enjoyed the apartment and the location. We value feedback very much and I advise any future guests to contact me directly in order to assist them with their inquiries during their stay.
