Overview

About the property

Boasting 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, The Chocolate Cabin can easily accommodate 8.

This 1950 true log home is ideally situated just 15 minutes north from the #1 tourist destination of 2017 in the U.S., the amazing brew capital city of Asheville, NC.!

Boasting 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, and a wonderful sun room / sleeping porch with a fold out modern sofa, comfortable for two to sleep on, the Chocolate Cabin can easily accommodate 8 guests. Each bedroom has a queen size bed, while the sleeping porch/ sun room bed is full sized. Additionally each bedroom has a TV for your use.

Completely remodeled through out, yet preserving some of the old cabin charm, mixed with eclectic style and modern conveniences, this cabin will indeed surprise you! The large living room / dining room combination can handle your entertaining and relaxing needs with a 50" TV, and you can build a cozy fire in the stone fireplace to keep away the winter blues. The retro 1950s kitchen has newly vaulted ceilings and amazing views of the rolling valley and mountains, as well as a full additional dining table for up to 6 if you want to keep meals causal. Feel free to sip your morning coffee and open the double 8' tall french doors and take in the mountain views.

In case you have an extended stay there is a laundry room downstairs as needed off the back sun room.

For your outside enjoyment there is a large half moon terrace with an outdoor seating area, dining table with umbrella, modern gas grill, and outdoor fireplace. This abuts the raised hot tub platform overlooking the terrace with views of the majestic mountains and rolling valley hills. The hot tub will accommodate 4 adults with a maximum temperature of 104 degrees, and has a small changing room directly next to it for the ease of changing in extreme weather. Further beyond the terrace lie a few short walking trails throughout the woods behind the house and barn, great for just a stroll, or maybe a quick jog. The owner of the property is always (*continually) expanding these :) Behind the barn you will find a private fire pit which is included in the rental of the cabin. Feel free to use it as long as no active open burn ban is currently in affect. Your host and owner, John Shepherd will greet you upon check in and let you know if any open bans exist at the time and walk you through the home to familiarize you with the charms of the old log home we fondly call "The Chocolate Cabin"

If wondering why we call it The Chocolate Cabin, if the outside color doesn't give it away, then just know that upon check in you will find some amazing *(Decadent) chocolates in your rooms from the wonderful Asheville based "French Broad Chocolate Lounge" located in downtown Asheville.

And just like any property in a more rural setting, we have an abundance of wildlife on the property and just passing through. Including deer, ground hogs, and the like, so just be aware when walking the property :)

5 Star Asheville Getaway Weekend

  • 5 of 5

For our group of moms wanting a getaway from our kids, this place was like a mini resort! John thought of everything to make us feel at home, pampered and welcomed. Chocolate in every room and a hot tub? We were in heaven. The decor inside and out is simply remarkable. And the view outside is beautiful. We were even able to get a Lyft out there to take us downtown. It is a little ways away (25 min drive to downtown), but we loved feeling like we were in a secluded cabin in the mountains. Don't hesitate booking this place if it is available. We can't wait to do this again. Thanks for everything, John!

This cabin was amazing. It was uniquely and beautifully decorated. Spotless! Every detail considered

  • 5 of 5

Our family and friends thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The attention to detail, from the linens, towels, toiletries and extra toilet paper to the wine, cheese, crackers, bag of I ce and an endless supply of chocolates was considered. The hot tub and changing room are a nice touch. The outdoor living space and fireplace made our evenings outside so enjoyable (and allowed the kiddos to sleep). Being able to bring our dog was also important. We had the last minute opportunity to extend our stay and John graciously allowed us to stay an extra night. Asheville is 20 min away, so you are close, but still feel like you are getting away. We would definitely recommend the cabin. One piece of advice if you have small children. You may need to hide a lot of chocolate and perhaps put some of the decorations up on the fireplace mantle avoid sugar rushes and possible accidents 😊?

John went out of his way to make our stay very enjoyable! So enjoyable that we decided to rebook less than 2 months later.

Best of all we left our dog's favorite toy and he mailed it back to us right away! Thanks for having us!

Great Thankgsgiving at the Chocolate Cabin

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was the perfect choice for our family Thanksgiving get away. Close to Asheville but set in the surrounding mountains, it did not disappoint. We needed a well appointed kitchen for lots of cooking and a big TV for all the big college football games. Close enough to Asheville for some Black Friday shopping and some outdoor space for our dog. Great little outdoor fireplace and a cozy hot tub. The owner made sure we were welcomed with lots of little touches, like chocolate, chocolate, chocolate! We would definitely return again.

Beautiful and eclectic cabin for family weekend

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed at the Chocolate cabin in October for my cousin's wedding in Burnsville. The location was a great middle spot in between family staying in both Asheville and Weaverville- about 15-20 minutes from both. The cabin is beautifully and eclectically decorated; it maintains the old log cabin feel but we loved all the updates that were made. The best decoration is perhaps the chocolate located in every room - what a treat! The cabin was spacious for the 7 of us, and the two bathrooms suited us well and had great water pressure. There are mirrors everywhere in this cabin which really was nice as all the ladies got ready for the wedding. The kitchen is well-appointed with everything you might need for cooking. We also really loved the outdoor area. There is a beautiful patio with a fireplace and cozy seating area. We used both this and the hot tub during our stay; again, we really felt like we were on vacation with these added touches.

John was great to work with and always responded timely to any questions I had. My sister left some clothing items hanging on the back of the door and did not realize it until we got home. When I message John about this, he promptly sent them back to us and refused my offers to pay for shipping. I would highly recommend staying at this house for any families or friends looking for a mountain getaway in a beautiful setting. l would absolutely stay here again on future visits to Asheville!
