About Kathleen Johnston
I have lived in Muir Beach for 20 years and am so enamored with this beautiful community! While I was born in San Francisco, I grew up in Asia and moved back to California in the early 80's. Marin County, and specifically Muir Beach, called to my longing to be close to nature, but also have access to the delights of the city. I also am fortunate to have a horse boarded here in Muir Beach at the Golden Gate Dairy, across from the Pelican Inn. Stop by the barn and meet our beautiful horses!
Kathleen Johnston purchased this House in 2006
Why Kathleen Johnston chose Muir Beach
Muir Beach is a beautiful combination of the rural feel, but with surprisingly easy access to city life, so we can have both! 10 years ago I decided to purchase a home here, and this house, because of my years in Asia, spoke to me. It's construction is fashioned after a Japanese pole house. Nine solid 18' fir poles support the beautiful vaulted ceiling and roof. It was the perfect cozy home for me to showcase the asian treasures of my childhood. I remodeled the interior not long after I purchased to further take advantage of its beautiful vaulted ceilings and expansive views.
What makes this House unique
The sunrises from the front deck took my breath away when I first moved in, and they still do. The ocean is constantly changing and I love watching the hawks soaring literally at eye level off the front deck. The views really are spectacular. The house is a short walk down the hill to the beach so you can enjoy the beach during the day and listen to the waves lull you to sleep at night. It is also within walking distance from many hiking trails in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and a short drive to great restaurants in Mill Valley, Sausalito and San Francisco. It is also an easy day trip to Napa if you want to go wine tasting, or a drive up Hwy 1 to get oysters. The possibilities are endless.

Beautiful home and so very relaxing.
I would come back here time after time.
The most tranquil, relaxing vacation spot
I can't say enough about how amazing this house and location are. We needed a good spot where we could relax and enjoy nature, but also be close enough to SF that we could venture in for a meal or shopping, and this place was it. Insanely gorgeous views, sunsets over the beach, muir woods, and the city...we couldn't have asked for a better stay and overall vacation. Thank you so much Kathleen for being a wonderful, gracious host. We will be back! ;-)
This was the best place to stay ever .... we loved it so much.
The owner was incredibly kind and even heard us talking about going to buy coffee and brought us some of her own. It was quiet, beautiful, very clean and gorgeous views. Best hikes and beaches within walking distance. Will definitely go back.
Thank you so much, I'm so glad you enjoyed the house and your stay here! I hope you find your way here again!
Kathleen has a wonderful property in an unbeatable location and could not be a more gracious host. Thanks!
We had a wonderful stay at the Haiku house. It's very spacious and actually looked better in real life than on the pictures. Recommended!
Beautiful area, wonderful weather!
Thanks Kathleen you have a beautiful home, like a maze getting in and out, who needs Lambard Street😉 Note mention the number of stairs to the house, it was very difficult having asthma, but once settled in very relaxing. We will recommend to others! M&K Menard- Wisconsin
