Here are comments from 2017, used with permission of one of our renters, posted on another site...
"Why our group of seven family members loved Bill & Kathy's house:
A great location: Just a 6 minute walk to fabulous library and scenic park with benches overlooking the harbor, and a 10 minute walk to heart of village or ice cream stand.
The house is very comfortable and has a great floor plan:
-quiet places as well as rooms big enough for group chats
-plenty of comfortable seating for relaxing
-dining room great for meals and games
-sunroom great for early risers
-kitchen nicely outfitted with Viking range, supplies, dishware, utensils
-patio is a nice place for lounging and grilling, with very nice outside furniture and high quality gas grill
Overall, it is a terrific space for family members to spend time together!
Other things that we liked:
-plenty of plush towels
-fans and individual AC units in each bedroom allow flexible comfort, and fans can also be used for white noise
-plenty of hot water and water pressure
-wifi seemed fast and reliable
-nice washer and dryer
A couple of things to be aware of that may factor into your planning:
Driveway accommodates 3 vehicles, but has no turnaround at this time, so parking multiple cars requires a bit of planning and backing skills, but this was never more than a minor inconvenience. As noted in house description, the stairs require caution. It is a good idea to always step carefully and use the hand rail!
Bill and Kathy were great to work with!"
We have since made many improvements, based on feedback from 2017, our first year renting.
Weekly bookings run Saturday to Saturday April through December.
Check-in after 4 PM Saturday; Check-out by 10 AM Saturday
2 Bikes available
Sunny rooms, original wood floors throughout. Close to everything. Air conditioners in all bedrooms and in downstairs kitchen and living room. Fans available as well. The home is very cool in the summer even without AC due to nice cross breezes.
Bedroom 4 has a pull-out mattress under the bed for an additional sleeper. Dining room seats 8 (photo shows table without extra leaves which are stored in closet).
We have prepared a few notebooks with menus from our favourite restaurants in Camden (and surrounding villages), the area activities, maps, hikes, boating info, day trips, island exploration, schooners, antiquing, beach combing, horseback riding, outlet shopping, scenic drives, sight seeing, walking, whale watching, etc.
A very nice YMCA is also a few minutes away by car or bike, with a great lap swimming pool, gym, saunas, etc.
The private patio will be set up with outdoor furniture and a grill.
The village has a number of wonderful markets and coffee shops, all a short stroll down the road. We want to provide all the info and amenities you need to make your stay a cherished memory.
We are in the historic district; the home is quite private and quiet.
Short walk to shops, library, restaurants, harbour, church, post office, etc.
Four book stores close by, antique shops, & family owned local restaurants. You can obtain a two week library card for $15, last we checked. The library is quite a gem with a wonderful garden with benches overlooking the harbour, plus a 19th century amphitheater where the Shakespeare Company performs outdoor plays. You can find a large selection of DVD's and most any book you are looking for.
Camden is rated in the top 10 prettiest small towns in America by Forbes magazine. Penobscot Bay is one of the premier sailing bays in the world.
Lincolnville Beach, Belfast, Owls Head, Rockland, and Rockport are all a short drive and wonderful places to explore. Camden also has it's own small beach, Laite beach.
Close enough to walk or bike to anywhere in Camden. Close to both the Camden Harbour and Sherman Cove if you want to boat or kayak.
Other things to note.......
New linens, towels, comforters, etc. Extra beach towels. Lots of extra blankets.
Half bath on first floor, two full baths on the second. One is a larger master bath and the other a small bath with shower.
TV's in living room and sun porch with access to the full slate of sports, movies, and news channels. Plenty of games and puzzles, plus, since we are bibliophiles, a great collection of classic adult & children's books.
Kitchen has all necessities: coffee maker, toaster, microwave, dishwasher, etc. Kitchen stocked with cooks in mind and ready for you to make a lobster feast if you so choose.
I am a period furniture maker. Much of the furniture is hand made by myself. Some of it is has won awards and been featured in magazines.
A final note: The two sets of steps are narrow and steep. This is how they were built in many of these 19th century homes. We recommend against anyone who might have trouble with this.
Also, the driveway is short and can only accommodate 3 cars.
Our home is on Rt. 1 (High Street). We are in the village so the speed limit is 25.
