Victoria's: a lovely, one-of-a-kind home with a magnificent view

About the property

Situated above an expanse of wild fields overlooking Kachemak Bay, Victoria's is a clean, relaxed home with a warm, New England feel. Terra cotta tile made from local beach clay, wooden flooring, antiques, unique art and a family-friendly atmosphere will put you right at ease after your day exploring Homer. Pour a glass of cheer, relax on the window seat or on the deck, and take in a panoramic vista of ocean, mountains, glaciers and sky, or scan the acres below for moose or bears. Grab the binoculars and see if your eagle neighbors are still out soaring, or have returned to their nest in a nearby tree.

Victoria's features a large master bedroom with a queen-sized bed and windows facing the bay, a smaller bedroom with a queen-sized brass bed, and a comfortable couch or floor futon in the livingroom, for a total sleeping capacity of six adults. There is a full bathroom including a tiled shower, bidet and jetted tub beside the bedrooms, and a small, half-bathroom down the hall near the front door entry.

The kitchen is good-sized, with a gorgeous, late 19th century butcher block at its center. Cookware, silverware, dishes, essential cooking tools and an assortment of teas, coffee, and spices are provided. High-speed wireless internet, Roku tv, a DVD player and a personal computer are available for guest use.

Homer is a ten-minute drive down West Hill, with spectacular views along the way. The owners are longtime Alaskans who live nearby, and they are always available to answer questions and provide local recommendations. Victoria's is located on a quiet, peaceful, dirt road for walking.

Very nice views and interesting house.

Very suitable for our needs. Didn't like the idea that we could be bothering folks below us. Katie d very responsive. House had niceties that were thoughtful.

Gorgeous view but apartment needs maintenance!

  • 3 of 5

The view of the Homer Spit is spectacular from the wrap around balcony of this apartment. I would love to give it a five star rating for the view, but unfortunately the apartment needs a thorough cleaning and maintenance! We were looking for dishcloths and towels and called Kate. She told me to check the dryer. The dryer was overloaded with two complete sets of sheets, six bath towels, and several wash clothes. The washer was full of very smelly towels and linens. They may have been washed, but not dried and the smell was foul. On the floor next to the washer was a pile of dirty kitchen linens. The shower had mold along the floor and the toilet & bidet had not been cleaned in some time. Kate came and addressed the problems that day as best she could. The Roku-TV was not set up correctly. Visitors would really benefit from written step by step instructions including passwords. We weren't able to make much use of it. The toilet should have written directions to insure adequate flushing. We repeatedly used the plunger thinking it was plugged, but we just needed to hold the handle down until it completely flushed (about 8 seconds.) Visitors should be told that they are expected to not wear shoes in the apartment due to the renters downstairs. It is very difficult to do this with heel spurs or other foot problems. Also, white socks were very dirty after walking on the floors. I'm sorry Kate, but the cleaning crew needs to be changed in order to make this the five star property that it deserves.

Relaxing time in Homer

  • 5 of 5

The property was just as shown in the photos. It was pleasant and roomy. A very nice place to relax and take day trips from. It is high on the hillside and has fantastic views of Cook Inlet. I would recommend it to friends and family. Everything you need is in the large kitchen. Saw Moose in the area several times.

Great Family Time!

  • 4 of 5

We truly enjoyed our time in the Homer. The home provides a breathtaking view of the mountains, bay, and Homer Spit. It was fun to watch cruise ships come into the area and the campfires along the Spit at night. The home provided everything we needed to have a great family vacation with our grown kids. It was very quiet and peaceful but still only 10 minutes from town. One thing to note the directions on VRBO when using the maps sends you to 255 and not 355.

Best view of Homer from this cute apartment!

  • 4 of 5

On a clear day, you can't beat the view from Victoria's! It's several hundred feet up on the hillside looking over Kachemak Bay, with a hundred-mile view from Grewingk Glacier out into Cook Inlet. Every afternoon, we looked forward to finishing our hike/kayak/boat trip adventures to go back and drink beers on the deck. The house was a little unkept when we got there: some chicken left in the microwave, a few dirty dishes left around, but nothing we couldn't clean up in a few minutes ourselves. Overall, we had a great stay in Homer. Thanks Kate for sharing your house!

Owner's Response: Oh no, that is NOT okay about the house being anything less than spotless-- and definitely not normal for this property. I will look into what happened and only wish I had known, so that I could have addressed it right away. My sincere apologies! So glad you enjoyed yourselves, and hope you will stay again. Our cleaning crew is top notch, I will find out if there was a scheduling miscommunication or something. Thank you for being so forgiving.

Wonderful time!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was quiet and peaceful. The house had a lovely view, clean, coffee in the morning. A little strange not having keys when we left the house and knowing someone was living downstairs. We saw cranes the day we left. 😊
