Quite possibly my favorite place on Earth. Truly a wonderful house, in a magical setting. Private, serene, and breathtakingly beautiful.
Once in a lifetime
This house was truly spectacular. We had small children and adults. You wake up with spectacular ocean views, with whales jumping in the distance. The kids practically lived in the pool and they thought the secret room was so cool, that they all piled in the bed to sleep there at night. I can’t even describe the amazing vibe this house has. It’s was a privilege to stay there. The only reason I gave it 4 stars, was because the were some issues with fixing things. The fans in the pool house broke and it got hard to sleep on the hot days. They were unable to fix it. The house was truly amazing though!
These guest were great and I appreciate the nice review. Hope they get to come back next year :)
The fan issue was just a simple on/off switches by the front door of the main house and they were not all on. This is written in our welcome letter and I asked guest if they had all these ON during our correspondence. They replied that they were still not working but after they left we saw they were off and they worked fine. We just assumed they understood and the electrician we sent over thought it was a switch somewhere in that guest house. All a misunderstanding.
Fantastic! A Private Resort ALL to Ourselves! (1 of 2)
This is so much more than a rental home. It is an experience all in itself! It truly has a resort feel without having to share the grounds and amenities with anyone else. The magic begins from the second you drive through the gates of the property. The driveway is expansively lined with gorgeous vegetation and fruit trees on either side. It was so long that I started to think we were on another road with other houses, but nope! Just a very long and beautiful driveway leading to a spectacular private property at the bottom of the hill. As soon as we walked through the beautifully carved and colorful TIKI doors, we were in complete awe! The online photos of this property and the surrounding landscape are amazing, but they can never do justice to seeing it firsthand for the first time! Breathtaking! The views are astounding to see and the home and grounds are equally stimulating. The bright colors and intricate details of this property are top notch. Our family of 9 spent all of our meals at the wonderful patio table. Lots of great memories made in the pool & hot tub. The monopoly board got plenty of use in the evenings and we managed to finish the 1200 piece puzzle the night before we left. One of my favorite things in this house was the stone shower off the master bath. Wasn’t sure how I would feel about showering “outside” but when you are in paradise, surrounded by gorgeous foliage and falling flower petals, you really don’t mind sharing your shower with an occasional bird or praying mantis. The kitchen was magnificent! 2 ovens, 2 microwaves, 2 dishwashers, a refrigerator big enough to feed an army! An indoor grill for making lots of bacon and pancakes at once, and an amazing wok station! We used it all! The property was spotless, including the pool and hot tub. The only downside of this area (not the property) is the elevation. The north shore of the island gets more rain, which is why It’s so lush and beautiful in comparison to the south (rocky) shore. But with the elevation and rain comes cooler temperatures. It would be 60 and rainy at the house, but if you drove south to the beaches (1–1.5 hrs) it would be 80/85 degrees and sunny. February is one of the cooler, rainier months on the Big Island, so if we are ever fortunate enough to return, we would come during the warmer, drier months so we could enjoy this property to its fullest! Secluded, Quiet, Spectaular Ocean View, Beautiful Landscaping, Plenty of room, Pool, Hot Tub
Our group of 10 adults stayed at Hale Waipio home for two weeks. Living in the Central Midwest we considered this property to be out in the country. It’s located on the quiet part of the Island & very secluded.
We made our way from Kona International Airport following the hand typed directions, stopping for some necessities in Waimea & arriving at the property in the dark (a 1hr. drive or so). After driving slowly down the very long & winding driveway we finally caught a glimpse of the lighted entrance to the home. On the other side of the entranceway door started the magnificent lighted lanai, (Hawaiian music playing) creating a perfect ambiance. After entering the main house & exploring it for the 1st time we were all amazed by its beautiful décor. (I must admit it did take us a while to find the secret room.)
After settling in we spent the evening outside at the big table under the Oceanside lanai living it up, enjoying the music & listening to the sounds of the Kukuihaele night. Everyone was up really early the next morning & watched the sunrise for the 1st time revealing the beautiful home, landscape & magnificent ocean view. OMG!
The lanai stretched from the back entrance of the home all the way to the Oceanside "front" of the home. The lanai also connected to a separate (3) bedroom, (3) bath guest house. The gated pool with a waterfall, slide & hot tub was awesome even for adults! The outside lanai table was the main hangout for “Cocktails”, breakfast every morning & lunch & dinner when we took a day off from sightseeing. It was also the place everyone said goodnight after a long day of fun.
The house was considered base camp. We ventured up, down & around the Big Island because it had so many things to offer. (We did a lot) Walked to the Waipio Valley Lookout from the house, Sunrise boat tour watching the lava flowing into the ocean, Sunset whale watching tour. (Actually seeing breaching whales, dolphin pods & a beautiful sunset), Different Beaches & Snorkeling viewing various fish & sea turtles, A hike down to a black sand beach, Botanical gardens, Hawaiian Luau.
I’d like say Mahalo & Aloha to the property manager Pam for all her per arrival communications answering all our questions & sending much information in regards directions, the closest towns for shopping, groceries, restaurants & things to do. Our stay at this property and on The Big Island will truly be talked about by all ten of us for years to come. Highly Recommend it! (x10)
Big Island Paradise
Just ask the locals: this is a home in a truly magical location, unlike anywhere on the island. You have a view of the WaiPio Valley from your window, a panoramic view of the ocean, waterfalls cascading into the sea...it truly is magical. When we arrived, wild pigs were walking through the grounds. Beyond that, the house has a large kitchen and living area great for entertaining, and a lovely pool underneath a palm tree (with a slide for the kids). An amazing place to stay, and not a far away drive from nearby towns. Secluded and very special.
Great Place for Families
The home's location is truly "Magical". I traveled to the home with 6 adults and 4 children, and we had an amazing time. The grounds that the home are on were spectacular - the view was magnificent - and the children loved the pool.
My family does a lot of traveling, and this is one of our all time favorite stops. We were at the home for 10 days, and we did not want to leave. I would definitely recommend!!
The small historic village of Kukuihaele offers 2 art galleries and is the starting spot for over half a dozen great Tours. A short walk through the village brings you to Waipio Valley lookout, where you may choose a wonderful hiking experience down into the valley, or opt to take the shuttle tour down and get a wonderful guided narrative about the valley's amazing history. Waipio is home to an amazing mile long black sand beach, a double 1200ft waterfall, and one of the few places lucky enough to boast that still has herds of Wild horses. You may take a fun Horseback tour or Mule wagon tour in the valley as well.
