The property is a lovely property, very spacious.
The farmhouse is set in a rural location, peaceful and quiet.
Comfortable beds and general facilities, great BBQ and seating outside. Good recycling facilities.
It does not state that there are actually two separate units which could potentially be problem depending on family or group size.
Advertised that the property has internet which it does not - this should be removed from facilities.
Would benefit from having a microwave for families of younger children.
Quite rural, definitely need a hire car.
On arrival the pool had not been cleaned (we should have photographed this) and the property whilst you could see had been prepared for the stay was full of spiders and webs everywhere.
The pool was cleaned after the first week on the Saturday when the cleaners came etc
The shower by the pool was not connected during our stay.
As the property is rural you definitely need lots of mosquito repellent, antihistemine we got bitten quite badly more than any other time abroad during 50 years.
Thank you for your review, we are glad you found the place peaceful and quiet and that the new BBQ area outside was enjoyed.
The internet access is through 3/4G but there is no WiFi connected to the house. We shall make this clearer on the website.
Unfortunately a microwave would not be possible due to the electrical restrictions in the area.
The benefit of the peace and quiet does come with the requirement of a car. However, facilities are easily accessible with the nearest village only a 5 minute drive.
Apologies for the condition of the pool and house, we have an agency service attached with contact details at the house so with any concerns like this the company can come straight out and resolve the cleanliness situation. Normally the pool has been immaculate so this will definitely be reported to our agency.
Unfortunately the insects can be an issue but with rural settings this can be a problem.
We hope you have some good warm memories which will keep you going through the cold months ahead until next summer.
Great villa in lovely surroundings
We had a lovely time in Roccascalegna staying at the villa. It is exactly like the photos; surrounded by an olive grove on the way up a hill to the village. The house itself is lovely and cool with lots of fans. A great balcony upstairs with amazing views. The pool is nice but unfortunately we weren't able to use it for some of our stay through nobodies fault but a natural occurrence. You do need a car to explore the area properly and to get to shops and restaurants if you have kids like ours! The village has a lovely bakery and friendly bar owner. Nearby lots to do and see, with our kids we visited the beaches and Aqualand and attempted the Gorge walk. They liked all the lizards and the wild boar family that was spotted in the evenings. A great part of Italy to visit.
Beautiful villa in unspolt rural location
We enjoyed a very relaxing week at Casolare della Quercia this August. The villa is presented to a very high standard, is very well equipped and has a lovely swimming pool. There are stunning views from the upstairs balcony of the beautiful surrounding countryside, including Lake Bomba. The villa is secluded and peaceful but is only a kilometre up the hill to the fascinating old village of Roccascalegna and its castle. We would love to go back and the enjoy the tranquility and comfort of the villa and explore the local area further.
The listing description was accurate and the property clean and well maintained.
We (2 adults and a 5 year old) spend to weeks at Casolare della Quercia. The house is private, a perfect place to get relaxed, and the surroundings very unspoiled. Very tasting figs!
We especially enjoyed the balcony with the view (we felt a little too near the trees on the downstairs terrasse. We would have loved a terrasse on the backside of the house - with a view).
For a daytrip we can recommend a trip to the Grotte del Cavallone.
We would like to come back some day!
Lovely secluded villa
A wonderful villa surrounded by olive and fig (sadly not ripe while we were there!) trees. Secluded and peaceful bar the barking dogs in the early evenings - but they didn't really bother us - just made us laugh as they answered each other. The villa was very clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed in the way of pots and pans and utensils etc. Thank you for the lovely welcome basket of fruit/olive oil/wine and breadsticks. Rob and Sarah were very welcoming and gave us various helpful advice during our stay. We had a very hot 2 weeks and would have liked another couple of sunbeds and another parasol to make our lazy days by the pool more comfortable (we are a family with four older children 13-21 so everyone wanted one!). Roccascelegna is a short drive away and we loved our almost daily trips to the bakery. All in all a fantastic villa and a wonderful holiday in this interesting area of Italy - we loved it! Thank you
Perfect setting for a relaxing holiday. Spacious rooms and more than adequate kitchen and bathroom facilities. We did really enjoy the pool. The location of the property is TMHO also ideal, since the beach can be reached within 20-30 minitues by car and the location of the property is also secluded from the main tourist routes.. Casolare della Quercia is on the outskirts of Roccascalegna, a large village famous for one of the most spectacular castles in Abruzzo. The mountains provide a breathtaking backdrop to the village. There are several local shops, café/bars, and a number of good restaurants and agriturismi in the area, offering local food and wine at reasonable prices.
Beaches within easy reach are good for swimming, safe for children. At Fossacessia you can see the famous trabocchi, traditional stilt-constructions suspended above the sea for fishing.
The hills and small villages around Lake Bomba are well worth exploring, and there are many vantage points which afford stunning views of the lake. A short drive away is Cascate del Verde, the second highest waterfall in Italy. Historic towns such as Guardiagrele and Sulmona are within easy reach, through areas of outstanding natural beauty.
In the summer, there are many traditional festivals, often involving local Italian food and live music.
Other Activities: Canoeing, pedaloes, wake boarding, jet skiing, beach volleyball
