Our house sits on a wonderful mountain road in the quaint New England village of Dorset. Our home is less than two miles to both The Dorset Inn and Barrow's House restaurants which both have first class dining and wonderful bars for an after ski cocktail! Get away from the hustle and bustle of real life in our 4 bedroom, three bathroom house. There are beautiful antique wood floors throughout and two fireplaces to warm up even the coldest of Vermont nights. Our home is close to skiing and all the wonderful summer and winter activities that can be found in Southern Vermont.

We have been going to Vermont our whole lives. We have four children and we have made many happy family memories in Vermont so we decided to take the plunge and buy our own place! We couldn't be happier with our decision to buy or with our special spot along the river!

Why Owner chose Dorset
This property stole our hearts the minute we saw it. It is cozy and welcoming and located on one of the most unspoiled roads in Southern Vermont. The river that runs through the backyard adds an unsurpassed sense of tranquility to the whole place.

Nice place, well kept and as advertised.
We stayed at this property during the end of January for a family ski trip. The property was nicely furnished, well cared for and as advertised. I agree with the other comments and would certainly rent the property again. My only suggestion would be to add a few more chairs for the dining room table.
Cozy and well appointed house in gorgeous setting
This is a charming spacious house in a beautiful setting. It was perfect for two families of four.
The host was so helpful and prompt in replying.
We would stay again without question!
Casual Elegance in the House, Exquisite 5 acres Outside
We LOVED our stay in this charming Dorset home! Lourdes was most helpful throughout the process. Since there were no pictures of most of the bedrooms, I called her to ask about the layout, since we might be having multiple family members staying with us for a re-union in another town. The original house was built in 1920, and then added onto sometime later. The result is a wonderfully spacious floorplan that accommodates multiple activities. (There are a few quirky spots, but they just add to the charm!)
All of the rooms are actually much more spacious than the photos suggest. There are 2 LARGE living areas, one with large TV, and another with games. Both have fireplaces, lovely furnishings, rugs, lots of throws for when the weather is chilly, and beautiful views of the 5 acre property. The décor throughout is tasteful, but not over the top. You really do feel like you are staying in the home of a friend.
The dining room and kitchen are also good-sized and well stocked with china and quality cookware. The frig is a nice large size, with a bottom freezer. We were able to work in the kitchen to prepare a huge fruit salad and 8 homemade pies for our event. Everything went very smoothly. We had 5 people working at once, and we didn't trip over each other.
Three of the 4 bedrooms were quite spacious. All the beds were comfortable for us, except for the twin bedroom downstairs (with ensuite bathroom). Those were a little hard, but one of our guests used that room and was OK with it. The bathrooms are all older, but tasteful and functional. Each bathroom (including master bath) has only one sink, but this was not a problem for us. Ample towels and pillows were provided, as well as nice linens, comforters, and quilts. The bedrooms have a wonderful "country retreat" feeling.
The property for this home is SPECTACULAR!! Rolling lawns down to the creek, with beautiful landscaping. The colors were magnificent in fall. There's a lovely patio set off the game room for outside dining, as well as chairs and picnic table down at the creek. The whole thing couldn't be more lovely!! There is also a tastefully fenced pet area. We saw only one house in the distance. Most of the views are wooded slopes and the creek.
Dorset Union Store is great is you don't feel like cooking yourself. They have delicious entrees available each day, as well as "2 go" frozen meals.
We are so glad we found this spot!! We'll definitely be going back!!!
We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay Susannah and you are welcome back anytime! We too completely enjoy our lovely spot in the hollow and you certainly described it very well. Thank you again.
Home Away From Home!
Myself and a group of 3 co-workers spent five weeks in this home this past summer, and we were so sad to leave! The home is quaint and comfortable and located on a beautiful piece of property on a sweet little stream that lulled me to sleep at night (and produced a few trout on my fly rod).
Though we were here for mostly work, we did have some weekends for exploring the area and if you don't already know about Dorset, it is one of the most beautiful parts of the country I have visited (I live in Portland, Oregon.) In Dorset, the "Hollow", where this house is located, is dotted with beautiful barns and homes, wooded hillsides and grassy fields. There is a six mile loop around the valley that is great for walks, runs, or biking. We spotted wild turkey, great blue heron, toads and dragonfly. The people are pleasant and happy to give directions or local tips.
Back to the house: the kitchen was well stocked with essentials like olive oil, spices , and good cookware, and a large dining table for family-style dinners. There is a good grill in the garage, and an outdoor patio overlooking the stream for moments to get away. The beds were plentiful, and the linens comfortable. There are only a few larger beds, with a couple rooms filled with twins for "bunking," so I can see how this could be very family-friendly. Everything is simply done--- nothing garish or over the top, but very comfortable (kind of like Vermont.)
The owner was great to work with, and would reach out over our stay to make sure we were happy and everything was in order. I will definitely be going back in the future!
We are so happy the rental worked out for you and your group and that you were so happy with the house. We truly appreciate what wonderful renters you were and how you took such good care of our home. We would love to welcome you back anytime!
