'Cottage in the Forest'

This beautiful little cottage is tucked into a small forest, with a view of the Hanalei Mountains. Where you will awaken each morning to the symphony of sounds and sights of a peaceful rural mountain setting.

Our three and a half Acre Property is located at the end of a cul-de-sac.

Enjoy the endlessly fascinating interaction and play of the resident birds and animals. Chickens, Ducks, Peacocks, Goats, Dogs, Cats and Horses, all co-exist on our property and provide hours of entertainment.

All this is only a five minute drive to beautiful Kalihiwai Bay, where Kalihiwai River enters the ocean. It is our favorite beach, great for boogie boarding and surfing. Also a five minute drive takes you to Anini Beach, a very long beach with a double reef, where you can spend your days: Wind Surfing, Kayaking, Sailing or just enjoying the Ocean environment. Anini also has a large Beach Park.

You will be only 15 minutes from the world famous Hanalei Bay and the Princeville Resort, where you will find the 27 hole Makai Golf Course, and the Princeville Shopping Center. There are two Horse Riding Stables very near by, and the North Shore boasts many hiking trails.

The accommodations are light, airy and beautifully furnished. The claw foot tub in the bathroom is especially charming and looks out a corner picture window on to a private garden.

We love it here and love sharing the unique charm and quiet country atmosphere. Best of all, we are only minutes from some of the best beaches in the world.

Beautiful Quaint cottage in the heart of the best area

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time at the cottage. Susan was a great host!. We had our privacy and it was just perfect for us. It was tucked away for completely privacy. The outdoor shower with hot water was amazing as was the tub. The high ceilings really made it feel even more spacious. You have all the essentials you need there. Towels, snorkel gear, hiking sticks, chairs. The kitchen is fully equipped. If you love nature this is for you. Milk the goat was an added bonus we loved feeding him. The area itself is spectacular. To us the North shore was the best part of the island. Less touristy and more rugid beauty. We thank you Susan for a beautiful stay and all of your tips and places to check out!

Lovely TIme at the Cottage

  • 4 of 5

Cottage in the Forest is even prettier in person, and a delightful base to see Kauai. The street is a long one, but so beautiful, the three miles are almost as nice as another outing. There are so many nice touches in the cottage, and it feels like being outside with all of the windows. I especially loved the bathtub and the outside shower. Soft towels, nice art, comfy bed and chairs. I loved it!

Susan and her daughter were available, but there is total privacy It is fun to see Milk, the billy goat, and the peacocks. I am not fond of roosters in the morning, but with a fan and noise machine and windows shut, they were not an issue for me.

There are several nice extras- a cooler, snorkel gear, mats, fans, even walking sticks that we forgot to use.

Overall, this cottage is a perfect spot that you may not want to leave. The only problem we had was with the grill not working well even after new propane was added. I would certainly return to the cottage, and found it a great value for the cost.

Owner's Response: We are workining on the grill...this review is the first that I knew of the problem. Maybe we need a new one. Kauai is hard on metal objects. : )

Perfect getaway spot

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I visited Kauai for a few days, and absolutely loved our stay in Susan's cottage. It has everything you could need. Even with nothing but rain for the first three days, waking up to the giant picture windows and beautiful surrounding foliage was a treat. The horses weren't there when we arrived but I had mentioned I'd love to see them, so Susan and Kim were even so kind as to bring the horses up for the weekend. Feeding Milk was a great part of the morning! We would love to stay here again the next time we are on Kauai!

The perfect place to stay on the North Shore!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is the perfect place to stay on the North Shore! It doesn't really matter that you aren't right next to the beach because there are many beaches less than a 20 minute drive away. You are also very central being located less than 20 minutes away from hanalei and princeville. There's a great outside shower and a claw bath that is perfect for relaxing in. There is also a washer and dryer, so make sure you don't overpack. The BBQ is wonderful for making dinners and there is a full size fridge and a place for you to cook meals. The kitchen comes stocked with plates, silverware, and anything you need to make your meal.

There are many animals located on the property including a super sweet goat named Milk which you can feed most of your food scraps. There are also cats, dogs, chickens, and roosters (make sure you bring ear plugs because the roosters have no sense of time and will sound off around 3am.) Also if you get mosquito bites easily make sure to bring spray.

It's wonderful being able to wake up in the Forrest in such a beautiful setting every morning! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the cottage and look forward to returning!

Peaceful, well-equipped cottage with amazing charm and totally comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at Susan's Cottage in the Forest! It was so peaceful and relaxing. The pictures really don't do the place justice, you feel right at home and very private immediately. It was perfectly clean upon arrival and the laundry facilities were an incredible convenience. I can't say enough about how well equipped the cottage was, they had beach chairs and cooler to borrow which made packing lunches for a beach lunch so easy. I know that other reviews mention the bath but I also can't speak enough about the wonder of the outdoor shower. Both were so relaxing and one of our favourite features! Susan was great, available if needed and super friendly! The location on the North side of the island was good to explore the area, though we were happy to have booked accommodation on the south side for the latter half of our stay so that we could explore the whole island without having to battle island traffic. The neighborhood was beautiful to explore on foot and grocery stores and dinner out was close at hand. I will also note that other reviews complain about the chickens but having stayed in two other places on island, they are inescapable even at the larger resorts. Embrace the charm of the chickens! It was also so nice to have the horses, peacocks and dogs come visit us while we enjoyed breakfast on the large patio.

We would both recommend staying with Susan to anyone looking to escape some of the more tourist driven areas and really explore the beauty of the North Shore. Loved every minute of our stay!

Perfect Perfect Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Even in the rain, the cottage was wonderful. Easy to find, but secluded and draped in mountains. We woke up to peacocks every morning. The road up provided my favorite run of the trip. We cooked in every night--totally stocked kitchen with every appliance you'll need. The perfect base for exploring Hanalei, the Napoli coast, and amazing beaches. Thanks for supplying boogie boards and walking sticks! A lovely outdoor shower... and the bathtub was sublime.
