Charming, Secluded Redlands Cabin Bordering the Colorado National Monument

Bedrooms 1
Space 858 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Located on a quiet, meandering, dead-end country road bordering public land (yet a short 10 minutes from our idyllic Main Street), this property boasts direct access to over 100,000 acres of high desert and red canyon beauty. Originally built in the 1930’s as the historic Redlands Trap and Skeet Club, the cabin was completely renovated in 2015 and appointed with high quality at every turn.

Guests have front door access to the majestic Liberty Cap, Corkscrew and Ute Canyon trails in the lower Colorado National Monument, as well as the farthest reaches of the Monument and adjacent McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area. Enjoy Tiara Rado or Redland’s Mesa golf courses, just a stone’s throw in either direction. Venture 10-15 miles beyond and explore the farms, orchards and wineries of Palisade (east) or abundant mountain biking trails and rafting in Fruita (west). Downhill ski for the day at the world class Powderhorn Mountain Resort, only 50 minutes away, where you’ll typically find fresh powder and short lift lines. Stay longer and broaden your discoveries by taking day-trips to the Glenwood or Ouray Hot Springs, Grand Mesa (the largest flat top mountain in the world with over 100 lakes), Arches, Canyonlands or Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Parks or the historic Colorado mining towns of Aspen, Telluride and Silverton.

The cabin offers a private bedroom with a queen-sized bed and sliding doors that lead to a deck ideal for enjoying the morning sun. The queen-sized Karnes sofa sleeper in the roomy living room is available for two additional guests, where a gas fireplace awaits the flip of its switch. The bathroom is configured with two separate sink/vanity areas beyond a large private showering area, so that multiple guests can utilize the amenities simultaneously. The modern kitchen has a gas stove, full dishwasher and lots of counter space. Just beyond, a dining area soaks in the afternoon sun at the front of the house, where views of the Monument loom outside every window.

Very few places in the world offer access to the kind of diverse scenery and terrain offered here in Grand Junction. From the spectacular red canyons of the Colorado Plateau to the west, to the alpine beauty of the San Juan mountain range to the south, to the expansive sunsets that light up the Bookcliffs to the north - beauty and adventure abound in every direction!

About Barb Tuininga

Ron grew up right here in Grand Junction, CO and Barb in the Northwest - Seattle area. In 2014 on a trip back to Grand Junction, they fell in love with this cabin on Wildwood Drive when leaving the trailhead after a hike at the spectacular Liberty Cap. Ron grew up hiking the CO National Monument and Barb has fallen in love with the area as well. Ron, an artist and a Fire Department retiree decided to make the cabin his art project and has spent the last couple of years creating this very special place. They hope to come to CO more often and for longer stretches when Barb retires.

For now the cabin is available for others to enjoy. Susan and Shawn live close and love the property also. They are great hosts to the many guests who have stayed at the cabin since it was ready in spring of 2017! Enjoy!

Comfortable, cozy cottage next to beautiful hiking trails.

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is situated on the southern edge of Grand Junction, with good access to amazing hiking trails on public land. The neighborhood is very quiet and peaceful and the cottage is clean and comfortable. We had a restful stay there and hope to be back!

Lovely location, great cabin.

  • 4 of 5

Very clean, well equipped. Cannot beat the views! We stayed in late November and the interior heating system was adequate however noisy and came on and off sporadically. We were never cold just waiting for the heat to come on at times.

If you want to hike, this is the place.

From the location being across from the monument to being close to town this property is the perfect location. The home is well furnished, tastefully decorated and extremely comfortable. We hope to return to Grand Junction soon and will definitely inquire to see if we can return to this wildwood retreat.

Colorado Coziness

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week at this adorable house. The rooms were spacious and both the inside and outside of the house were immaculate. Couldn't ask for a better location or view being across the city street from the Colorado Monument. The caretakers, Susan and Sean were a wealth of information of where to go and what to see. Definitely add Redlands Property to your "bucket list".

Quaint cabin, beautiful art, relaxing location

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our stay in this charming cabin and felt very welcome. Views from the cabin are breathtaking and we appreciated the easy proximity to trails. The cabin is well appointed and serves as inspiration for our own home renovations. The owners' beautiful art collection was an unexpected treat. Thank you Barb and Susan.

So sweet, so charming!

  • 5 of 5

This is a secluded property on the west edge of the Redlands area of Grand Junction. The house is perfect for 2, but could accommodate 4. The kitchen has all that one could need for preparing a meal, the charming artsy touches make the house a true gem and so easy to relax in. Close proximity to 2 wonderful golf courses as well as hiking into the Colorado National Monument make it a perfect getaway for active adults.

We will definitely return!
