Don't just visit the famous Santa Fe galleries -- stay in the home of one of its best artists! Built in the 1920s, perfectly restored, and pet-friendly, this 2-house compound immerses you in history!
Located right on Canyon Road, the Cassidy Compound consists of a main house (2 bedrooms, 2 full baths) and a connected guest house (1 bedroom and 1 full bath) enclosed within a gorgeous garden including patios, a working chiminea, and plenty of shade. If you've ever wondered what it felt like to live and work as an artist in Santa Fe, the Cassidy Compound gives you the total experience!
Step inside the light, airy living space of the main house and you immediately see the viga (open-beam) ceiling, kiva fireplace, and warm-toned tiled flooring of the New Pueblo style of Santa Fe architecture. And mingled with the new is the comfortable and homey, from the huge leather armchairs in the TV nook to the shuttered windows and Native American-print woven rugs, crafts, and art. This room is long, reaching the length of the house to end in floor-to-ceiling glass leading out to the backyard and patio. You will find it pleasantly striped with light for much of the day.
At one end of the common area is the dining room, where the group can gather for meals, games, and meetings. Map out your "plan of attack" for shops and galleries, find a new hiking trail, or simply break out the Uno cards and enjoy some much-needed playtime! And if you like sitting down to a formal meal every now and again, be assured that Cassidy Compound has all the dishes and serving ware you need -- in addition to a fully stocked kitchen with appliances large and small, gadgets and chef's tools galore, and plenty of space to move around in!
The kitchen is a treat for the whole group. Large windows over the sink spill sunshine into this bright space, while wooden cupboards and drawers are packed with everything you need to prepare a feast (or just to reheat the excellent takeout from Santa Fe's fine eateries!).
And when it's time to get some rest, the two bedrooms in the main house assure everyone of a peaceful night's sleep. The master suite is fantastic, featuring a king-sized bed, private TV, sitting area with comfy curved sofa, and en-suite bath decorated in bold and beautiful colors.
The guest room is luxe as well, offering a queen-sized bed and overstuffed reading chair, plus access to another full bathroom. Of course, all linens and towels are provided for every bed and bath at Cassidy Compound, including the queen-sized sofa sleeper in the guest house. Check the closets for plenty of extra pillows, blankets, and other comforts to induce long naps and late mornings!
The guest house is every bit as well-equipped as the main, with spiral stairs leading to a charming loft bedroom -- private, easy to access, and very comfortable, with a queen-sized bed and plenty of storage -- plus its own living room (with sleeper sofa), dining area, bathroom w/ both a tub and shower option, and kitchen with all major appliances except a fridge! You will love the design of the guest house as much as its larger counterpart -- this is not an improvised living space, but a fully furnished, decorated, and beautiful home in its own right.
As lovely as the two houses are, the patio and garden area rival them for great appeal. If you are traveling with pets, you will appreciate this walled space even more. There are few established, enduring gardens like this one in downtown Santa Fe, with old-growth trees, a welcoming grassy lawn, and beautifully landscaped areas of sun and shade. The formal patio offers dappled sunlight with plenty of comfy seating, a grill, and a table and chairs for al fresco dining. Follow the path around the house to enjoy flower borders and a chiminea tucked to one side. Or simply snooze beneath the vine-covered arbor, listening to rustle of birds in the trees!
The Cassidy Compound is a private gem, tucked away in plain sight on Canyon Road. The location is incredible, the accommodations luxe, and the ambiance both stimulating and relaxing.
