Characterful and charming converted winery
Santorini can be busy and touristy, and at the end of the day it was heaven opening the door into the courtyard, into the calm, quiet beauty of the Winery.
You can't write about the Winery without mentioning Jon, a Greek-speaking American who renovated it and lives next door. He meets you at the airport in his battered old jeep and immediately feels like an old friend, recommending places to go, fantastic, simple restaurants off the beaten track, concerts, fishing trips, as well as occasionally delivering freshly laid eggs and fresh pastries. He was never intrusive, just great company and full of local stories.
The Winery itself is a delight - quirky but tasteful, Jon's paintings on the walls, every detail thought of. We loved sitting on the roof terrace at sunset, the village and surrounding mountains pink in the evening light.
Thank you again Jon, for everything, we have very happy memories of our week in Emporion
Great place to stay
For our first visit to Santorini we didn't know what to expect but we were so glad we stayed at Jon's restored Winery in Emporio, for us it was much quieter and relaxed, the local people were so welcoming and Jon was a perfect host. Would definitely recommend this property if you want to avoid the bustle of the many cruise ships that visit the island.
One of a kind host and property!
When I first saw the listing for the property, the first thing that stood out were the glowing reviews of its host - Jon Call. I thought to myself, "What gives?" The person featured in everyone's accounts of their experiences seemed too good to be true. Alas, the hype is real! Jon is as thoughtful, helpful and kind as he is described in every review before mine and I'm sure all of those that will follow. And he makes a mean souvlaki!
I've been renting homes around the world for 10 years and our stay at his winery was the best host experience I've ever had. Normally, it's nice if a rental has a few basics like olive oil and shampoo. Jon, however, MET US AT THE AIRPORT and stocked the house not only with the basics but with liters of water, soda, juice, fruit, crackers, WINE (!!!!) and small satchets of lavender lay on our beds. As if that weren't enough, that night, he lent my husband 50 euros to get food as we were out of euros at that moment, and even took him to a place to go get it since we had arrived late and didn't have our bearings yet!!! I could go on and on.
The photos of his place are lovely, but don't do justice to the artistic detail that is evident when you're actually in what is a very creative and original home. Bright, exceptionally clean and very very spacious, all six of us (my parents, my husband and two kids - 8 and 2 and I) had more than enough room to spread out and plenty of cozy corners to hunker down in. While it's out of the way of the major tourist spots, we found it very convenient to travel to them by our rental car (that Jon arranged!) and didn't find parking to be an issue when visiting other locales. Moreover, we appreciated the space and privacy that being outside of the the big cities afforded us.
I'd stay here again in a heartbeat and have already recommended it to friends.
Stellar accommodations & host
We caught lightning in a bottle and would be hard-pressed to duplicate this experience on vacation again. Not only are the facilities/accommodations excellent but your host Jon is magical. Emporio is the village to stay on Santorini, if you want to have a wonderful, true Greek experience. And this is the place to stay if you want a charming host, great tips & guidance and a simply divine place to stay. You will feel relaxed, at home, and lucky to have found this place. Thank you Jon, for your attention to detail and kind, caring and joyful sharing of your home, village, island. We didn't want to leave...
To Kim and "My Girls",

Charming Villa nestled in charming Emporio Santori
What a lovely villa with old world charm and modern amenities. The court yard. the roof patios, the unique bathrooms all added to our delight. The stone walls and the pool helped to keep us cool. The local shops and neighbors all made us feel welcome. The beach was only minutes away. We felt completely safe here. It was hard to leave.
Our host Jon was such an interesting man . His stories, his love of Emporio and its people were really heart felt. He made it his mission to make sure our vacation was more then what we hoped for. He helped us with tours, transportation, where the best meals were. Even delivering fresh baked goods to the villa just because he had heard that we liked it. ( Jon, Amanda is still embarrassed about the garbage pick up. LOL) He cooked us a delicious meal one evening. It was wonderful. We felt pampered. Jon helped make this our best vacation ever. We are better people for having met Jon. What a wonderful experience.
From the moment I opened the door to the restored old winery, I was in love and didn't want to leave! The attention to detail from the architectural use of space, color palette, pieces of greek building materials and pottery, and original art work make you feel right at home. The courtyard has a pool to cool off in a day of sightseeing, and there is a rooftop terrace that has both shady and sunny places to sit with a grill.
The owner, Jon, is a wonderful host who made our stay very enjoyable. He gave us tips on the best restaurants, places to see, beaches to visit, and anything else that struck our fancy. He even cooked for us one night - and he is a great cook.
I would highly recommend renting the Winery if you ever decide to visit Santorini.
