Home away from home
This was our 4th trip to GTO and our first time to stay in this part of downtown. The location was perfect and the home had everything we could ask for. Our plans were changed due to COVID (3 grandparents didn't travel as planned) so it ended up being only my family of 3 (including 12 year old son). We left Texas as the outbreak was starting and our return flight a week later was delayed one day. They scanned our body temps in the Leon airport and we filled out a questionnaire but there were no problems flying. The owner/manager were very flexible with us. The town was getting less busy day by day. There were posters everywhere encouraging safety measures and lots of hand sanitizer at restaurants.
The layout of the home is typical of GTO and makes use of every space. I was glad to see the pictures and descriptions on the website match our experience: very clean, well equipped, ideal location. The open living room and kitchen areas were very spacious. The downstairs bedroom was convenient for things/people who couldn't manage the stairs. We spent most of our time in the book nook and on the terrace. The master bedroom was large and tons of storage. Heater, fan, and blackout curtains in every room. There are no words to describe the experience of the terrace. You feel like you are looking in the heart of the town from up above. I haven't relaxed like that in a long time! Only downside are those pesky stairs. They are small, steep and tight. I had to plan ahead to get my drink, snack and phone up there at the same time. Worth it!
Full sized washer and dryer along with dishwasher are not common in most rentals. They stocked us with plenty of water.
Location: It was fun to see the tourists at the Callejon del Beso every day. I liked being able to get to Plaza de Los Angeles and San Fernando easily OR wind through the street to get to Calle de Alonso. Compared to the other houses we have stayed in, the incline to the house was very manageable. If you stay somewhere flat then you get no view. The grocer and tortilla shop nextdoor were a bonus! So many great shops and restaurants in the area.
Safety: I have never had safety issues in GTO and this trip was the same. The police were always in the area; they seemed to be watching out for us after I met one and shared our travel plans. I always feel like the locals are helpful and look out for us.
Bottomline: You can't ask for anything more!
Thanks, Michelle, for the kind comments. Someday maybe we'll rebuild the stairs to the rooftop - it is steep - and the view from up there is fantastic.
The only problem we had was with cab service. Some taxi drivers did not know how to find this address. One driver let us out at the bottom of a steep hill and told us to walk the rest of the wsu. One member of our party was not able to make the walk, so we had to find a second taxi to complete the trip.
We did find one English-speaking taxi driver who was excellent. Once we found him, we used him for the remainder of our stay (including a day-trip to San Miguel de Allende.). His name is Jorge—tel. 473-108-5931.
Max: so sorry about the taxi! We'll recommend our guests call Sandra when en route to the house - that way if the driver doesn't know how to get to the house, Sandra can talk to them directly.
We hope the rest of your stay was OK...

Central Charm in Centro Guanajuato
If you love historic charm and youthful vibe, this area is ideal for your next getaway. Lots to explore on foot from shops, restaurants, history and easy access for taxi, Uber, bus to explore other areas. From the rooftop or the front door, the views are what you should expect from this area. The biggest surprise is the tunnel system and how important it is to get around this historic city. I will definitely be returning to this city as it truly is amazing and this location was ideal. The property manager, Sandra was exceptional and my sincere thanks on my behalf as well as my guests.
Thanks for your kind comments! We're so glad you enjoyed the house and your time in GTO.
I recommend this rental!
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here, and will want to stay there again in the future. The ease of walking anywhere one needs to in Guanajuato is very very important in this city. Also, being able to be "delivered" to and "picked up" right at the door was really important, as my friend and I had LOTS of luggage!
I loved the space, the decor, the comfortable beds. I loved the views from the terraces, and especially enjoyed the reading nook. My friend had the small room with a view --- what a delightful discovery --- an interior room that had a window wall to the reading nook and its picture window.
I took the charming bedroom on the first level, and felt like I had a special suite as the room opened onto the living room.
I had been worried about noise, but it was not an issue AT all. I personally found the sounds of the men calling out "GAS" in the morning charming. And wow, I loved seeing the donkeys being led up the alley across from us -- collecting cardboard.
Unseasoned travelers might be put off by the practice of daily placing garbage in that same alley, or by the need for renovation of a few places on San Cristobal. I myself will continue to be ever so grateful that people share their personal homes. Jeff and Emily's place is warm and personable. THANK YOU!!
Perfect place in Guanajuato
The house was more beautiful than we imagined and the view from the rooftop terrace is breathtaking. Perfect location for easy walk to the central historic district. The property manager, Sandra, was awesome too. She arranged rides to and from the airport, set us up with a couple private guided tours of the area and even coordinated a home cooked meal/cooking class. The owner also provided a very helpful list of places to eat and things to see (their 'favorite' breakfast restaurant became our favorite too!).
