The Flying Honu is located in the heart of Kona three blocks from the Ironman starting line. Built on the fragrant pathway from the mountain to the sea (Mauka to Makai ) it is a great example of Hawaiian single wall construction. Open floor plan with large windows to let the ocean and mountain breezes inn. Large master bedroom with ceiling fan. The lanai sleeping area has two full size beds . We provide everything you will need for your day at the beach mask, snorkels, fins, beach chairs, boogie boards .

Very clean. Plenty of space. Quiet. Easy to find. Easy to communicate with host. So many extras available. Super amazing rental. Would stay here again anytime I come back to Kona if it’s available.

Great location, easy walk into town

We had everything we needed and were happy with our stay. Having a place to park off-street was a very nice perk, especially since the unit is so close to everything that we just left the car there and walked everywhere. Looking forward to our next visit to Kona!

Good Kona Location

We needed a place to stay in Kona after arriving at 8 pm. The rental was great for our family with two adult kids. Host was very friendly and communicated well.

Welcoming home in Kona

What a cool find. The place has a sweet vibe for sure. Large apartment with backyard and cool amenities. Owner was easy to work with and very welcoming. Would visit again!

Don’t miss it!

My two teen kids and I LOVED this place. It is beautiful and has a ton of character, we were so sad we o Lu got to stay for one night and really hope we can return someday. Hosts are exceptionally kind and interesting people, don’t miss a chance to chat with them a bit. I stayed at six places on my trip and this was definitely my favorite. Location is great too for walking into Kona town or getting to most other places n the island.

Comfortable stay with a retro vibe

The Flying Honu is a nice laid-back option for couples who aren’t into the resort scene. We appreciated the kitchen with a small stove where we could make a simple dinner before walking less than a mile down to Ali’i Drive. The location is a densely packed residential area, so there were some barking dogs and some traffic noise (not too close, but audible from the major roads nearby), so a head’s up for light sleepers. Mahalos to Marc for providing a convenient and comfortable stay.

Breezy Lodging on Second Floor

Our host was very friendly, checked us in personally and showed us all the beach toys we could use--towels, cooler, umbrella, chairs, boogie boards, masks/snorkels. A lot of useful gear. He also suggested good snorkeling spots. The upstairs rooms had plenty of fans, was well-stocked for our stay, and we had so much room--three queen beds for just the two of us. The screened-in lanai was a cool spot for taking evening refreshments after sunset. Grocery shopping and "downtown" were just a short walk away. We enjoyed this spot as home base, but we were out playing day and night while we finished up our Kona stay. Thank you Marc for hosting us!

We were very disappointed with the pictures that did not reflect the room. It showed view of water, we were unable to view the water. The area looks shady, but was quiet. No TV with 2 kids was not the buisness. It was hot and muggy and no AC. It had roaches and was bite but something 2 times. I was grateful it was close to the airport.

Great stay in the middle of town, easy walk to the ocean. Quick drive to multiple world class snorkeling sites. We loved sleeping on the lanai.

This was a one night stay for our family of 6 before flying home early the next morning. It suited us fine for the night. Communication with hosts was amazing and easy. Very clean, amply stocked kitchen, linens, etc. Beach stuff to borrow (snorkels etc) for those who stay longer than us. Residential neighborhood location is amazing if you want to walk to everything in town. No AC so can get warm, but 2 ceiling fans and 2 portable fans. There is one interior room with 1 bed, and another room with 2 beds. The room with 2 beds is basically a screened in porch area, and there is an adjacent smaller non-screened lanai with chairs that would have been nice to hang out on if we stayed longer. It had an ocean view peek over the downhill buildings. Despite the screens, it had a very outdoor feel which was fine for us but maybe not everyone, and a few interesting insect friends (7 inch praying mantis!) got escorted out. Kind of a funky place, fairly basic, well aged but comfortable dining chairs, lots of character, on a 2nd floor above a carport (where you can park). If you are mobility challenged the stairs might be an issue. Mahalo to our hosts!

Check-in was smooth and the owners were very responsive and helpful. The decor was flavorful. The lanai room was fun for my kids. A few minor complaints: the windows had only screens so it was a bit loud and hard to fall asleep (surprisingly more traffic than the small neighborhood location would suggest, the toaster lever needed to be held down to get it to work, and the clothes dryer was crazy loud (but it did work). The biggest complaint were the numerous spider webs and big spiders outside in the backyard. No spiders were seen inside. Would recommend.

It was lovely, clean, beautiful view of the water, very safe, free parking, a wonderful place to wine down and relax, great coffee and comfortable beds, and lots of fresh air, I would recommend coming here and unwinding from city life. They even have everything you need to go to the beach or surfing, we where greet and welcomed by the owner with smile and open arms, that made us feel right at home, thank you, I will be coming and recommend this place to all our friends and family.
