We had a great time while using a very comfortable property. Owner was very nice and helpful. Great suggestions as to what to see and do. Only big issue was if you are not use to well water is you need to get some drinking water for your stay.
Great place for family get together weekend
Check in was easy and the house was clean. The house is very spacious and the bedrooms were big (be aware of the bed situation- 1 room has 2 twins and another room has 1 twin). We had 7 people staying at the house, and with prior permission from the property owner had some family that live around the area come visit for a day. The bedrooms are all upstairs and when 4 of us got up at 6:30am and made breakfast we didn’t wake up the others who were still sleeping upstairs. Plenty of bathrooms (although odd there isn’t a window covering on the window in lower level bath so we didn’t use that one). The property is in a nice neighborhood with spacious lots, and the house has woods on 2 sides, so it feels nicely private. With the woods right there, we did see some bugs (just be sure not to leave any food out on the counters in the kitchen as we did get ants on cake left in foil on counter the first night), saw a few ants on the floors too. We put all food in the fridge and didn’t have a problem after that. The house has window ac units and they were able to keep it comfortably cool (it was the hottest weekend of the year at 96 outside with heat index of 105). We did bring a fan and used it to push cool air into the upstairs family room from the dining room ac unit and that worked well. The downstairs family room stayed cool. The only TV I recall seeing was in the master bedroom (which was fine for us bc we didn’t have kids, but may be an issue if you have kids). There were some board games downstairs. The house worked quite well for a large family to gather with several people visiting from different states. We used the front yard to play a yard game (as the large side yard was full of goose poop due to the lake right there). There was only 1 garbage can outside, which was overfilled when we arrived, so there wasn’t anywhere to put our trash (my sister put a bag next to the can and it looked like something got into it overnight so maybe leave it in the house if the can is full). Overall the house worked great for us.
So much Potential....
Let's start with the good: Lovely neighborhood, good location near Hudson, large (side) yard on pond, big rooms, natural light and nice windows in living area, freshly painted interior. The house only had room A/C units but they did work adequately to cool the house.
The Bad: Dorm room/Thrift shop decor. The strangest mishmash of cheap furniture, decorative objects and kitchenware imaginable. Nothing matched, weird assortment of kitchen implements. Forty knives but only 7 forks. Four frying pans but not one of them of high enough quality that you would donate it to Goodwill. I asked my family which pan finish they wanted to eat the rest of with their eggs for breakfast. Tacky sheer window treatments on flimsy rods, cheap linens and no mattress pads causing the bottom sheet to bunch up and pull off in the middle of the night. Master sink was lacking a pressure dampener (water sprayed everywhere) or a drain cover (would have been easy to drop a ring or an earring into the hole). The burners on the gas stove wouldn't ignite. I found a lighter in a drawer and needed to use that to turn them on. There wasn't a single towel rack (or even door hook) in both upstairs bathrooms. Loose tiles in the kitchen floor kept coming up.
The Ugly: House is overgrown with vines and the front beds are full of weeds. There is a huge dead tree directly behind the home that is just waiting for a good storm to land right on the house. Seems like a huge liability issue. There were lots of food items left behind by other renters, which is nice in terms of spices and non-perishables. Unfortunately, no one has ever cleaned through them and I found things in the cupboards and drawers that were disgusting and should have been thrown out. Rancid oil, an open bag of sliced almonds, an open box of Bisquick etc. Total magnet for bugs (which we did encounter) and rodents, which we did not. There were old coffee grounds still left in the coffeemaker. Yuck.
The bottom line is that the property has been neglected to the point of being creepy. The things that didn't bother us so much at first, really started to add up over our four day stay. In the end, we couldn't wait to get out of there. A thousand bucks, along with some basic repair and maintenance would go a long way in this place. I have a seasonal rental home myself and know that the place has potential. It's a shame it isn't anywhere close to realizing it.
I'm glad you enjoyed the location, but when guests stay at your house, there is a lot more wear and tear than usual, such as the pantry door that we found broken after your stay. When I stay in someone's home I am expecting them to live differently than I do, and that is half the charm.
You may not have liked the decor, (shown in advance in our pictures), butstrangely enough, we do. Yes the dishes are purposely mis-matched, and the 15 forks, (why were you counting utensils instead of enjoying nature?), I deemed to be sufficient for 8 people. There were stainless pots and pans if you didn't like the others and two propane long nose lighters, etc.
All in all we strive to provide a good experience to people who want to save money on a hotel while opening up our homes to total strangers. Sharing ourselves like that is a risk, but in this judgmental society where everything is swipe left or swipe right, I would hope that our guests would remember visits to grandma's house where you were expected to be polite and respectful, not leave behind five cases of empty bottles and garbage because they couldn't be bothered to walk twenty feet to the trash can.
That being said, the tiles that were found loose after your stay were secured, but the cuts that we found in the dining room chairs can't be fixed.
I take great pride in my property and I just hope that you won't be that judgmental with future hots.
The patio area looked lovely in pics, but it was overgrown and not inviting
The house fit our needs and was accommodating except for the outdoor areas. We would have liked to have enjoyed the view of the lake which was also overgrown. The deck was shabby, the entire outdoor area is unkempt!
We have had so much rain we had not had an opportunity to repaint the deck as we usually do in May. Luckily we were able to get to it as we had three days with only a few downpours! And yes, the incredible amount of rain made the yard a bit unruly, but we had warned our guests that our landscaper had not been able to get to us intime!
The house is located in a beautiful area. There’s a very nice hiking trail practically right in front of the house that takes you alongside a lake. Very quiet at night, although some of our group were awakened by train noises. The house was big enough to accommodate 5 men with enough room that it didn’t feel crowded. The only (minor) complaints are: 1) the faucet in the master bath shoots out a thin stream of water so that you have to carefully limit the force of the water to a slow stream to avoid water splashing above the sink and all over you, and 2) the master bath shower has a cutout in the wall with a shelf (a natural place to put shampoo, a razor and a bar of soap), but the water does not drain from the shelf, leaving whatever you put there sitting in a pool of water. Not a big deal, but slightly annoying.
Quiet street with a lake/pond behind the house. We enjoyed watching the winter birds in the trees from the large dinning room windows. The house is across the street from community park with a nice two mile walking trail around a lake. It's driving distance from the Cuyahoga Valley National Rec. Area with great hiking trails that we were able to take advantage of.
The house was comfortable for our group. Make sure you are aware of the bed arrangement to see that it meets your needs. Three & a half bathrooms are a great addition to any house sleeping eight people. The home had a huge fridge and we were able to cook all of our meals and sat around the large dinning table to enjoy our family get-together. It's a split level home that has a living room on the main floor and a family room with a tv on the lower level. Enough space to be together in one room or divide up if you'd prefer.
The home owner was very helpful and in contact with us to answer questions as they arose.
