Me and the dog had a truly wonderful holiday in this very pretty and cosy cottage, set in the spectacular rolling hills of The Peak District. The owners made me feel so welcome, with a lovely welcome basket with goodies for me and the dog.
I called the owners beforehand to arrange key collection and Tracey was very helpful with lots of local tips and instructions for the cottage. There is an excellent set of instructions and lists of things to do, all neatly arranged in two binders at the cottage. Tracey also rang me the Monday evening to make sure I had arrived safely, which I though was very sweet.
The cottage is just superb. Clean and tidy and oh so cute! The wood burning stove was a delight, and necessary as we ended up with some very chilly temperatures, and were especially chilly after coming back from a very windy hailstorm out on the hills! However, the storage heaters in the rooms worked a treat and I didn't get cold at night.
Even though the cottage is on the main road, you wouldn't really class it as a busy street. Didn't notice any noise at night or in the mornings. And yes, you do have the neighbours and the occasion walker use the public footpath which runs across the driveway of the property, but it didn't really bother me. Only the dog really paid any attention when someone went by, but this would be the same if the living room faced out on to the street.
It is a shame there is no private outdoor space, or non-gravelled areas, but I was well aware of this when I booked Crosse Chance Cottage, and I'm still really glad I did.
The town of Taddington itself does not have a lot of amenities; there are no shops nearby. But the local pub, The Queen's Arms does great big plates of hearty, good value food, and their Bingo night on a Thursday is hilarious and great fun.
I would highly recommend this cottage for people who want a relaxed walking/running/hiking holiday with stunning scenery, and a lovely cosy, fully equipped, haven to return to in the evening.
