A Wonderful Getaway
From the moment we pulled into the driveway, we were amazed by the beauty of both the cabin and the property. Surrounded by a forest of trees and the hushed sounds of a nearby stream and dozens of birds, this stunning area was like paradise. Rain? A great excuse to stay inside (or on the rocking chairs on the porch) and enjoy time together as a family. The cabin had every amenity we could possibly think to need, and a kitchen well stocked with cooking supplies of all types. Brad and Ginger were exceedingly lovely hosts, and we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. Now that we've seen summer, we can't wait to come back and visit again in the winter!
Best North Carolina vacation!
Brad and Ginger's lovely home was the perfect getaway. We wanted for nothing and the location was ideal for day hikes, fishing and the quiet we all craved. The house was cozy and ready for us, even though I completely forgot to call ahead to let them know of our arrival time. Thanks again for that!! You know it's a perfect spot when you start looking at local real estate and dreaming of retirement. We will definitely plan a repeat trip.
The Thatcher Family
You’ll need more time to do it all!
This is such a beautiful area with a wonderful small town feel. The locals have that southern hospitality you always hear about. There’s so much to see and explore that just one week wasn’t enough. You’re a short drive to the Great Smoky Mountains where you can hike, water tube, horseback ride, take a scenic train ride, view the Elk and other wildlife and so much more. There are beautiful drives right in your backyard with the Cherohala Skyway, Blue Ridge Parkway and the famous Tail of the Dragon. If you’ve got a motorcycle, it’s a no brainier.
The cabin itself was peaceful and comfortable. We had our best night’s sleep in a year in the incredibly comfortable beds while listening to the nearby creek lull us to sleep. The hot tub was a relaxing escape at the end of a fun filled day. The fire pit was the icing on the cake. The kitchen was well stocked with cookware and utensils. The water was so crystal clean, fed from it’s own well/ Spring, that even our clothing seemed softer after being washed in the nice, large washer/ dryer setup.
The drive up from town is a long, slow, twisty ( last portion is dirt) one so DEFINITELY be sure to stop at the local grocery store in town and stock up before you check in. And be prepared to take all your garbage off the property when you leave. There are large fenced areas of dumpsters between you and the town so maybe bring a few heavy duty bags that won’t leak if you have less than a pick up truck and don’t want any spills in your trunk on the way.
A great stay in the wilderness.
Our family of four + dog had a great stay at the cabin and it was great to have the family bonding time without all the coronavirus distractions. We took some hikes around the mountain and up to the waterfalls at the end of West Buffalo Rd (which was an adventure, even our Subaru Outback could only go so far), nice drives around the area, and some attempted fishing in Lake Santeelah. The cabin is well stocked with everything you need for home cooked meals, the bedrooms are comfortable and have plenty of pillows and blankets to keep everyone cosy. Brad and Ginger were very responsive and even brought some cookies and kids movies out for the girls.
I couple of things we wish we would have known:
The driveway is paved, but not all the way to the cabin, which is gravel. From the photo we thought there would be a flat paved area for the kids to ride bikes on, but the photo is of the beginning of the driveway. So we brought bikes we couldn't use. The firepit and grill are basically just at the end of the gravel driveway next to a mud pit that looked under construction. So not an ideal area there. A higher quality grill (like a green egg) would be a nice addition for those who like to do more involved cooking.
WIFI is adequate for emails and such but too slow for some of my wife's work applications. We could use Facetime Audio for phone calls. This was mentioned by Brad when we booked.
Overall a wonderful time, thanks!
Thank you for the detailed review and we are so glad you were able to decompressed and make some great family memories. Yes, at the far end of the parking area, away from the cabin I have started some dirt work for a small shed that will allow covered parking for motorcycles. Of coure it has rained and rained (10 inches over normal) but now it has dried up and it will be finished this summer. Sorry the grill is a Char Griller and not an Egg (?) Thanks, Brad
The Tail of the Dragon.
