About Renée Sawazaki
Hi! We're Motoyasu and Renée and we love to help guests to Japan stray off the beaten tourist path and experience a dream luxurious and restful stay in Japan’s beautiful nature and culture. We're long-term residents of this region and know lots of hidden gems we can share with you. We live nearby, so we're always available when you need us.
Renée Sawazaki purchased this Villa in 2016
Why Renée Sawazaki chose Annaka
This is absolutely the most stunning house we've ever seen in Japan. It was love at first sight. We were looking for a property for our family yoga practice, we needed connected tatami rooms. We were shown this house and, although it is not big enough for a yoga studio, we decided on the spot to purchase it and share with guests from around the world. As most Japanese do not speak English, we realized it was up to us to not let this hidden gem stay vacant. Mitsuba House is the epitome of exquisite wabi sabi. There simply are no words....You just have to experience it yourself. It was built in the hight of the Japanese bubble economy in 1977 of the finest "miyadaiku" architecture that can be only be found in temples. Yet, when you enter, you feel like you are in a five-star Japanese inn. The interior was completely remodeled in 2016, maintaining the priceless wooden structures in the Buddhist and Shinto altars, ceiling and room partitions. Fragrant tatami rooms, pristine white walls and paper shoji doors of a design only found in the homes of the highest class in Japan. The kitchen, bath and WC all boast high-quality modern features. We matched this elegant structure with top-quality furniture, futons, cookware, and amenities so that our guests can experience the highest possible quality home in Japan.
What makes this Villa unique
The theme of the house is "relaxation" and "wa". The hammock, heated tables with comforters, large dining table and chairs, sofa and outdoor furniture provide all you need to melt away the stress of your everyday life. We've left as much open space as possible, while providing all the little details that a guest might need. Everything in the home is for guests' use, so relax and make yourself at home! Home parties are super easy to prepare, and our guests really enjoy their time with each other. Local markets and supermarkets provide all you need for a fun gas-grill BBQ party, hot pot and grill party, or even try making Japanese takoyaki! If you want to enjoy the home without cooking, our local restaurant delivers piping hot, large portioned homestyle Japanese and Chinese dishes at a super reasonable price. We all work hard during our everyday lives. Motoyasu and Renée want you to truly relax and refresh in our home during your precious vacation. The area surrounding Mitsuba House offers the best of Japan's countryside and more: Elegant Karuizawa resort with its ski resort and amazing outdoor outlet with mountain views and a pond is just over the mountain (45min drive) with scenic spots and recreation along the way. Hot springs, lakes, parks, museums, hiking, golf, shrines, temples, hands-on cultural activities abound. If you want suggestions, we'll help tailor-design your stay to suit the interests and time-frame of you group. Warning, though, some guests have come with a long wish list of things to do and ended up relaxing in the house most of their stay! So, if a rejuvenation trip is your goal, you're coming to the right place!
