Susie has been coming to Grand lake Stream since 1948, when her grandparents, Fred and Bobby Burghard bought land and built Turtle Cove Camp. From Singing Cove Camp, Turtle Cove Camp is about five houses away, nearer to the Grand Lake Stream town beach, the boat launch, and the dam on the same side of West Grand Lake. I grew up there every summer until my grandmother died when I was about 17 years old. Back then, there were not even roads, electric, and phone to camp, so we came in by canoe. Some folks here still continue to access their homes by boat only and just have propane for power.
Grand Lake Stream and West Grand Lake are still back in the 50's as far as folks living in peace with just nature all around them. Now, however, we have many of the easy living modern electronic age amenities which have been added as needed. have resident animals- a friendly chipmunk, hummingbirds, deer with fawns, a bald eagle, black duck and loon families, and a red fox. It is a place of heaven for all ages so you do not want to leave.
