About Brad Mai
My family bought this beach house for a vacation getaway from busy Norfolk, VA and later Washington, D.C. We make it available to rent when we aren't using it to help cover the mortgage. I'm a career naval officer and hope to retire there someday! It is a labor of love to keep it in perfect condition and we make continual upgrades.
Brad Mai purchased this House in 1998
Why Brad Mai chose Broadkill Beach
Broadkill Beach is truly a wonderful place and this house is the best of Broadkill. Directly on the water. Broadkill is sandwiched between the Primehook Wildlife Preserve and the Delaware Bay. This keeps it small and beautiful. The Broadkill General Store is the only commercial establishment! Bring bikes and it is a simple, short bike ride to get ice cream, lunch. fishing supplies or the basic necessities.

Great beach house!
Right on the beach, this house also has an incredible porch where you can view the ocean, eat all your meals, and enjoy the sunset.
A nice house with a lot of potential
Pros: beachfront, sunroom facing the beach, clear path through the dunes from the house to the beach, high speed Wifi, TV with HDMI slots for our firestick, comfortable living room, quiet neighborhood, bulletin board in kitchen with information from the owner, restaurant menus, etc.
Cons: house was dirty upon arrival - I suspect the cleaners may have a list they stick far too closely to, as the inside of the microwave was clean but the outside wasn't, bathroom sink was clean but not the mirror, tub was clean (looked like it had been caulked by a toddler, but clean) but not the shower walls or doors, stovetop was wiped down but burner bibs were foul. Fridge had not been wiped out and smelled so strongly of fish that the ice tasted of it and the ice trays still smelled of it when empty - we had to purchase baking soda and a bag of ice. All the vents, ceiling fans, kitchen drawer interiors, windows, and windowsills were dirty. The floors in every room were gritty with sand - I swept up almost two full cups of sand and animal hair shortly after our arrival. Whatever the owner is paying his cleaners, he's paying too much.
Other cons: bed in master bedroom was reasonably comfortable, but was so squeaky and bouncy that every time one of us moved we both woke up. Exterior stairs are a bit steep and a couple of the treads feel unsafe.
We had a very nice, relaxing time here, and the house could be wonderful if thoroughly cleaned and updated. But this is the first time we ever left a vacation rental significantly cleaner than it was when we arrived and there really is no excuse for that degree of filth.
Great R&R getaway
We couldn't have asked for a better week. The weather was perfect this time of year! If your looking to get away from crowded beaches and the hustle and bustle of everyday life this is the place to be. We were able to drive our vehicle on the beach and park. Great for handicapped or elderly individuals in your party. Just a short walk to the beach and great water views from the deck.
Great location, walking distance to beach.
Overall experience was good. The only negative was the lack of cleaning upon arrival. Pet hair and sand. Recommend better cleaning service and updated decor. Very fun week was had. Enjoyed bar b cue on deck while watching the ships. So peaceful we didn’t want to leave to go out for dinner. Thank you.
Quiet beach getaway.
Family had a great time!! Beach was beautiful, clean, and not crowded. Kids enjoyed the calm waters of the bay, and I even got some surf fishing in.
House had everything you needed for a beach stay.
Beautiful, quaint, quiet and lovely!!!
This is my family's first time at Broadkill and we loved it. The home was the perfect "beach bungalow". Reminded us of when time was simpler and the focus was on family gatherings and outings. My kids hung out on the florida porch most of the time. We barbequed overlooking the water almost every night sipping wine and just wishing it our week would never end.
The property was everything it was advertised to be. We had the family look at all the pictures and the video so everyone had their rooms picked out ahead of time! The house was very clean. There a little sand under the beds but it is almost impossible to keep sand out of a beach house. I know we tried! Honestly, we loved the house and the beach and we'll definitely be returning.
Broadkill Beach Delaware. Waterfront. Walk the sand dunes to the water. Only one commercial establishment....a quaint country store for ice cream, the necessities, and fishing advice!
Other Activities: bird watching. Nearby Lewes has wonderful restaurants, coffee shops, book stores and a marina. 12 miles away, Rehoboth Beach, has EVERYTHING! Take day trips there if you like and return to quiet and beautiful Broadkill.
