About Shannon Bowerman
Melissa and I (Clyde) take pleasure in providing a wilderness retreat where people can unwind, enjoy nature, and come closer together. The Alpine Cottage is a quality place where this can happen.
Why Shannon Bowerman chose Columbia Falls
Melissa lived in this area for about 20 years and loves the mountain wilderness. Her favorite spot is Lake McDonald, by Apgar Village, a short drive from the retreat.

Great base camp for Glacier
We came in August for a family get away. The property is great and secluded away from the hustle and bustle of GNP/Whitefish.
Pros: tons of room for several family members.
Centrally located between Glacier and Columbia Falls.
Appliances and utensils are all there making it super easy to make family style meals.
Cons: the house is split with another unit. And you can hear most of the other tenants movements when in the basement (sleeping quarters).
No ac which makes the upper floors hot during the day. But Montana cools down in the evening which makes it a non issue.
The cons are pretty insignificant when it comes to this great property. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to stay while enjoying the beautiful outdoors.
Clean and exactly as promised
We were extremely happy with our stay. The master suite is fantastic. Three other bedrooms very nice plus a room with many bunk beds. Excellent large dining table which was perfect for our group. Somewhat odd floor plan with a large bathroom two levels up from most of the bedrooms. Very nice outdoor space including patio and fire pit. Very convenient to West Glacier.
Wonderful visit to beautiful Montana!
We had a group of 12 stay here over Labor Day weekend and we couldn't have been happier. The house is large and can easily accommodate a large group. The location of the house feels like you are in the middle of nowhere, yet only a 15 minute drive to the park and a grocery store. We saw deer and even a little black bear right on the property. I highly recommend staying here, everything was just wonderful!
weird floorplan, cold wet basement bedrooms, hot loft
Glacier national park is amazing, we had a wonderful time. The house was adequate for our needs, but had a odd setup. There are 4 rooms in the basement that are cold and damp. We hesitated to turn the heat on because it was 100 degrees in the loft upstairs. The room with the bunk beds, as well as the loft, have no doors. You are sharing the house with other people that may be above or below you. There are 3 bathrooms 1 in the basement for 4 bedrooms, one in the beautiful master suite and one for the loft area. We asked for more toilet paper for the basement, and we were questioned about our usage, we bought our own. After we left we were accused of stealing a bumper sticker left on the dining room table. Overall, the house was clean and the area is beautiful. We would come again, but pick a different place to stay.
Great Time at Mountain Cleft Retreat
We spent a week in the Alpine House at Mountain Cleft Retreat. We were a family of 11 that found the house very comfortable for all of us. We found the house to be fully equipped with all the features that we would have wanted. We appreciated meeting Clyde and Melissa several times during the week. We spent most of the week in the park--absolutely gorgeous! The weather was unseasonably warm but we were able keep the house sufficiently cool during the day especially in the four bedrooms downstairs.
Mountain Cleft Retreat is surrounded by national forest. Wildlife is abundant, especially in the Spring. Two forks of the Flathead River merge nearby where you can find a locally favorite fishing spot. Glacier National Park property is about 3/4 of a mile away as the crow flies. The West Entrance to the park is just 8 miles by road.
