Water Winds is our vacation home. It has beautiful views of the Albemarle Sound.
About Beth Younger
My husband and I undertook the journey of owning a vacation home this year. He is a retired Fire Captain and I am a retired RN. We love horses and the water. Our second careers are teaching horseback riding in the Sandhills of North Carolina. We discovered the Inner Banks after my father bought his vacation home at Albemarle Sound. We would love for you to come and enjoy what we have found here and in the quaint shops and historic areas of Edenton and Hertford.
Beth Younger purchased this House in 2018
Why Beth Younger chose Hertford
This home has one of the best views of Albemarle Sound at Holiday Island. We purchased it after it had been ravaged by multiple storms and needed a lot of TLC. The headboard in 2 of the bedrooms are salvaged wood from some of the storms. We love to reuse and re-purpose things. The stairs going down to the basement had no banister and no protection from falling right down the stairs. We used old tobacco barn poles and old doors from a torn down depression house to make it safe. We used drift wood for the railing. We have worked very hard so that each thing we have done means something to us, a memory of hard work or good times with family. The dining room table was made by my father in law from wood that came from his farm. Everything has a story.
What makes this House unique
We love looking at the water. We feel tranquil and more at peace. There was a fantastic Thunderstorm last month with a lightening show that went on for an hour that we watched from the great room windows. In summer we have the doors open at night and listen to the waves breaking against the bulkhead or sit out on the dock looking at the stars. Water Winds is a quiet place. The only noise you will hear are the birds and the fish jumping and an occasional boat going by.

Great place just as advertised. Hopefully I be back. Needs a new grill but didn’t affect my trip
Lesley thanks so much for choosing to stay at Water Winds. I'm glad you enjoyed your time at the Inner Banks. The stainless steel grill that we placed in service this spring is located under the porch and has a cover over it. Lots of folks grill on the outside fire pit and that is fine but is more for Smores. We used the grill for Veterans Day and it worked just fine. Come back and try it out.
Even though weather was windy, rainy, cloudy for all but a few hours (late afternoon and early morning the day we left) the overall experience gave us a quiet place to recharge. Could not ask for better accommodations.
We felt at home from the moment we stepped into the house. All the small things like the basket of snacks, makeup removing cloths, hand written welcome note, etc were great touches! The view was amazing, crabs we caught were quite tasty , and the availability of bikes, kayaks, fishing poles etc made this a wonderful place to relax and refresh. The property managers were great to work with and very helpful in finding items we accidentally left behind. We cannot wait to find the time to return our newly found favorite spot!
So glad you had a great time. We really appreciate the way you took great care of our favorite place to chill for a bit. Come back anytime!
The house was very clean. Looking out over the water with my morning coffee was a great way to start the day. The kids had a great time kayaking, playing in the water and in the yard. Be ware this is a very low-key, non-touristy area. There is not much to do or see very close. (I tried to order pizza our first night and there is nothing close enough to deliver.) However, we were looking for relaxing, not busy so this was perfect for us!
It doesn't get any better than this!
We have been taking vacations for seven years. Every year we go to a different beach. Everywhere from the Gulf to the Atlantic. By far the Sound is the best place to be. After two days of driving it was very relaxing to finally arrive. As soon as we got out of the car we could feel all the stress disappear. The view is magnificent. Laying in the bed at night, if looks like you are on a boat, all you can see is water.
We have only been home for five minutes and I need to go back. Thank you so much for the vacation of a life time.
Perfect stay away from the hustle and bustle
We are a family of Brits who stayed here for 2 nights in August. And it quite simply is a home from home. It is equipped with everything you need for your stay, there is nothing more you can need. They even supply bikes, kayaks, life vests, stuff for the beach. Then there is the vast array of dvds to watch, books to read, games to play if you don’t fancy just sitting watching the Sound.
We wished we’d booked longer than two nights, you’ll never want to leave.
Beth was the perfect host being in touch when we needed.
Would recommend this place to anyone who wants to watch sunrises and sunsets along with the many animals that pass by.
