Could be better
This is a house that could be great but, unfortunately, has not been maintained. It needs some serious TLC to get it into shape and worth the rental costs.
Upfront, I must say the management folks were great and very responsive when issues arose and I appreciate their efforts. Other plus points were comfortable furnishings and house linens. And, of course, the location is great.
Not so great was the condition of the house itself and some of the appointments. The WiFi is using a very old router that is not for a house of this size and with firmware that hasn’t been updated in years. Consequently, it doesn’t work most of the time, and because the router itself is locked in the attic, you must call management to come out and hit the reset button, then bother the poor folks again when it conks out again.
Similarly, the house itself needs maintenance. The decks have rotting boards and lots of peeling paint; many windows have broken seals so they’re fogged; and several windowsills are rotting as well. Lights are out in various spots in the house and in the elevator (though management came right out and put a temporary light in there). Some doors, including the front door, have broken locks (though it’s a safe area so we didn’t worry too much). The air conditioning in the master suite broke the day before we left and while management tried their best to get a repair man out, they were unable to, so that space was uncomfortably warm that day and night. The dryer in the laundry room either has a clogged vent pipe or does not vent to the outside, so clothes steam rather than dry. And, when it rained the last day, we discovered some major leaks that had water bubbling through the plaster, running down the stairs inside, and pooling on the floor. On the more minor side, small things were missing like dish towels and coffee cups were things like plastic freebie mugs from Schlitterbahn.
Every time an issue arose management immediately responded to assist. It’s just that when you rent a house for close to $2,000 a night, you don’t want to have to ask for or wait for repairs and expect better upkeep and appointments for the cost.
If they do the work necessary to get the property back into shape and well appointed, this place would be lovely.
