LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION AND LITTLE ELSE!
We arrived to find a pretty filthy room. The tables and kitchen were surface cleaned, but there was hair and dust in virtually every corner. Under the bed was so bad that there was an empty water bottle there that hadn't been removed. The patio table, where the view could be enjoyed, was literally falling apart, with all the bolts loose, and one of the chairs had an arm that was hanging loose from the frame. The TV was cutting out regularly, and loosing sound. there were rogue black hairs on every surface (including on the first plate we took from the cupboard), including in the sheets, which were worn and pilled. We bought our own sheets, needless to say. After I sent Kim pics of the filth, she sent someone to clean the condo, and she was very good. This was the beginning of the adventures. We ended up working directly with Kim, because after leaving 2 messages and a text to the property manager, ("Call me with any problems"), we learned he was in the Phillipines on vacation. He returned the 2 calls several days later, one at 7 am and the other after midnight. Kim didn't know he was going to be gone either, so everything else that came up, she had to handle from California. She sent a handyman, who immediately got into a power struggle with my husband, about how to fix a broken handle on the linen closet, and he threw a fit and stomped out, saying "Do it yourself then." We found a tool kit, and my husband fixed the broken handle, and tightened the bolts in the outside table, and the other thinks that needed to be fixed, we arranged with him to be gone so he could fix them. I could go on, including Kim saying, "I spent $1000 to make things nice for you," as if providing promised amenities, and making repairs was only something she would do for us, and not for any other tenants. We stayed for a month, so it would have been really bad for the next tenants, if they hadn't fixed any of the problems. The kitchen hasn't been upgraded since the 1960's, but everything worked. We ignored the 20+ years of grime on the side of the refrigerator, after I had the cleaning person at least wash out the grime around the handle. There were other issues as well, but the reason we awarded 3 stars was all because of the view and location. Whenever we come to Waikiki, we stay in this location in the building, because sitting out on the patio, and watching the ships come in and the planes go out, in the wonderful Hawaiian sun is why we come, and it satisfied!!!
Very nice condo but needs work
The good condo looks nice on the surface and has beautiful view. We got to the Ilikai at 3:30 PM go to the room enter code in lock box "no key in box". No way to contact owner so called the owners agent twice just get voice. Panic set in didn't want to be stuck room for the night go down to front desk and get a room for the night. Then got text that the key is in the lock box. So we get jnto room I goes down to front desk to cancel room, no refund. I texted the agent he texted the owner. The owner called she is very nice and apologizes floor the problem she was able to get the hotel to reduce the room charge and she will paid it, thank you.
The first we notice when entering the room is a musty odor turning on the A/C reduces the odor but can still smell it in the kitchen. Opening the cabinet door under the sink musty odor is very strong, to me it smells like there is a leak under the sink. Checking the bathroom the sink faucet has a fast constant drip almost being a small stream. Flush valve (flapper) for toilet leaks. Floor tile grout looks like it has never been cleaned. Shower, wall covered with soap scum floor is dirty mold on walls at the shower frame. Very heavy soap scum or pink mold and base of walls. Turned on ceiling fan one over bed does not start because one of the blades is ready to fall off. Screws the attach the blade to fan motor have back out and blade is rubbing on switch housing. Couldn't use fan over bed because of that. Ceiling fan in living room cannot be run on high because it vibrates to much. A/C works good a bit noisy for a normal through the wall unit. The condo need some TIC and fire their cleaning service and hire someone the takes pride their work and not just do a walk through and get paid for not doing anything. Some of this stuff is not new I have read it in previous reviews. I took pictures but Vrbo is so lame you can't post pictures with the review.
Even with the above issues we enjoyed or stay. People need to know what to expect and know the condo needs a good cleaning which isn't going to happen with the current cleaning service or they would have already done it.
We really enjoyed staying at this condo! Fantastic location and loved the view! The condo is beautifully furnished and has everything you need. We already booked our return stay for next month! Cannot wait to go back!!!
The apartment was over cluttered, with stuff that didn't work at all (living room floor lamp) or didn't work properly (bedside lamps and the TV). Management ignored communications about these issues and other issues. Nevertheless, we were very pleased with the apartment. The view and location are unbeatable.
Ceilings fans need to be replaced, one didn't even work in the bedroom. Air conditioning barely cools the room and is loud. Needs deep cleaning, despite paying cleaning fee. High/low level dust, that was months old. Needs to be decluttrred. Overall in need of updates, especially the appliances.
