Sunset Lakehouse Rules and Guidelines:

By renting this cottage, you have agreed to adhere to the expectations listed below. Please read and ensure a strong understanding by all guests. The #1 rule is to keep the cottage clean and tidy upon checkout.

1) Check-in time: 4:00 p.m sharp. Earlier arrival is subject to a fee. We manage our cottage remotely with 1 outdoor SECURITY SURVEILLANCE. Once arrived the camera is turned off and then on again upon check out. Guests have the right to turn off the system as well but we do ask to have it turned on upon check out to ensure cleaners arrive on time.

2) Arrival Inspection: Please do an inspection of the home upon arrival. If any items are broken or not working at the cottage at time of check-in, please report within 2 hours after arrival. Service times in rural areas are longer than in the city. Advanced notice is more than necessary; especially if related to heat, water or electrical.

3) Accidents in the Cottage: we understand that accidents can happen at the cottage during your rental. If something breaks, please call or email us to inform us of the accident. This will allow us to make arrangements to have the broken item fixed or replaced.

4) Bbq: There is a bbq onsite with propane tanks available. Please be prepared to have them filled or replaced BEFORE using. Some guests have not been consistent in having them filled after use. To make it economical for all guests, we provide the tanks and payment will only be to fill.
NO foreign materials (e.g. wood, charcoal) in the bbq. Bbq grill should be cleaned/brushed after each use when grills are hot. Refills/replacement tanks could be purchased at Hoppy's Gas Bar, Roxy's, Stedmans and Foodland. All located just North on Hwy 6. There is a BBQ lighter/matches in the kitchen island or mantle to start the bbq.

5)Campfires: Please enjoy your recreational fire in the permanent fire pit areas. The zoning in our area allows you to burn outdoors 2 hours before sunrise and 2 hours after sunset.

7) Checkout time: 11:00 AM

8) Ceiling Fans: These items have been provided for your comfort. Please do not leave on and unattended while away from the cottage.

9) Blankets and Towels: GUESTS MUST BRING THEIR OWN blankets and towels. Our laundry facility is not industrial enough to clean all 7 bed sets in 3 hrs before next guests arrive. However, mattress protectors and fitted sheets are provided for all bedding along with 10 pillows with clean pillow cases available. The King size bed is an exception and has a full sheet set with king pillows.
FAQ: If you are travelling from overseas or find it difficult to bring your own towels and blankets, we do offer this service at a fee of $40US/room making it a total of $160. Please ask at time of reservation.

10) Although cleaning fees are included in your booking, we kindly ask you have the cottage in a neat and tidy fashion just as you entered.

12) Trespassers: We do not tolerate trespassers onto our cottage property. If there are suspected trespassers entering the lot from the road or into the cottage building please call OPP immediately in Wiarton. 24hr Non Emergency and Emergency 1-888-310-1122

12) Guest capacity: The maximum number of persons determined for this cottage is based on your booking arrangements. Anyone over the capacity will be charged with extra $100/per person per night. Our base rate includes 6 guests.

13) Firewood: To help against the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer – Please buy firewood in neighbouring areas. The closest location for firewood would be at Stedman's Store on Hwy 6 towards Tobermory. Many private homes sell bundles starting at $3. Off season, we have firewood available at no charge.

14) Fridge/Freezer: Upright fridge and separate deep freezer is available for your use. Please help yourself to any non perishable foods in cupboards. Replace if necessary.

15) Garbage: Take ALL recycling and garbage with you. Never leave garbage outside the cottage unless it is in a tightly covered container. Country critters (raccoons, bears, skunks) love garbage. Any garbage or recycling left at the cottage will result in a $60.00 disposal charge.

The first 2 bags are free at the 3 locations in Tobermory. Addresses to follow after booking.

16) Heating: The cottage is heated by oil. The temperature can be adjusted manually located in the office.

17) Hydro/Power: You are in a rural area and the electrical power may be interrupted from time to time, and it may stay off a little longer than it would in the city. We have flashlights and candles available. DO NOT RUN THE WATER. The water system operates on an electric pump and you may empty the water lines and end up without water until a service professional is available to prime the lines.

18) Insects and Wildlife: Insects (mosquitoes, earwigs, wood roaches ants, slugs etc.) and mice are very much part of cottage country. To discourage these pests, please endeavour to keep exterior screen doors closed at all times, do not leave damp or wet towels lying on decks/beach area or open food/crumbs on tables and counters.

Medical: If you have a medical emergency requiring an ambulance, please call 911. Your closest intersection is Dorcas Bay Road and Borden Drive. Your address is: 1002 Dorcas Bay Road, Tobermory, ON. The closest Emergency room is open 24 hours at the Lion’s Head Hospital - 22 Moore St. Lion’s Head, ON. They can be reached at (519)-793-3424.

19) Septic System: This cottage operates on a septic system. The septic system is a very sensitive, and integral, part of cottage life. The basic rule is that nothing goes down the toilet other than natural waste and toilet paper.

20) Smoking: NO smoking is permitted inside this cottage. However, smoking is permitted outside the cottage.

21) Supplies for Kitchen: Respect the use of all kitchen items and place them away in a clean and organized fashion. Please feel free to contact the owner about use and care if you need help. We have kitchen accessories for all kinds of baking and cooking.

22) Water crafts: Please take extra caution when venturing out onto any body of water. Keep a close eye on the weather, as storms can blow in very rapidly. There are 6 adult life jackets for your use.

Great Family getaway
A nice location with lots of space for a family and a unique location with incredible evening sunset views. Located on a marsh teaming with wildlife and a little further beyond the marsh is the lake shallow enough for children to play in although I recommend water shoes due to rocky escarpment. We were visited by Blue Herons, wild turkeys, chipmunks, ducks, frogs and turtles and enjoyed paddle boarding in the lake, reading on the rocks, evening campfires, watching shooting stars and the quiet secluded location away from the Tobermory summer crowds. Would definitely return.

Quiet Private Getaway with family
Lovely quiet and private spot with all the amenities you need. We enjoyed the hot tub, firepit and kayaks. The water was a bit low but my boys loved hunting frogs and crayfish. We did manage to go swimming with water shoes. Large living room/ kitchen area was great for playing games and enjoying family meals. I'd highly recommend this spot.

Great location in Tobermory
This cottage was very spacious and a great place to relax and enjoy nature. It is close enough to town that it was not inconvenient but far enough away that you felt like you were one with nature. Many small animals were around the property. We even had the privilege of seeing a wild turkey family walk buy us on their journey to the lake. Lots of blue jays, butterflies, chipmunks, and rabbits and a turtle were seen on the property. The hot tub was enjoyed by everyone. The water is clear and was warm enough to swim in. The many choices of watercraft were enjoyable also. There were a couple things that would have made it a bit better such as more Tupperware and a better working coffee maker. We figured out how to make it work so it did not cause much of an issue. Also I would highly recommend cutting down the clump of bushes in the front as it needlessly blocks some of the view of the lake, which is so perfectly beautiful. Bring watershoes as the beach is very rocky but so clean and sparkling it didn't mater to us. I would highly recommend.

Stunning Tobermory scenery!
From the first interaction with our host Victoria, we knew we would love the Sunset Lakehouse! Nestled in the woods right on Lake Huron (with the shallow bay having clear turquoise water), you can't beat the location. We loved the kayaks and wake boards, exploring the bay -- the shallow bay keeps out motorboats, so instead you see loons and herons! We enjoyed the firepit, the hot tub, and just sitting on the covered deck or out by the water. Only 20 minutes from Tobermory, we also enjoyed some Bruce Trail hiking and the Singing Sands beach nearby. There was something for everybody in our family from 16 to 80! The time went fast and we would love to come back one day!

Family Getaway
The cottage itself is great for a large family, with lots of room to spread out. The covered porches are welcome if you have rainy days but still want to be outside, and the hot tub is a lovely way to finish each day. The beds are comfortable, and if you are lucky enough to get the King Room, it is a wonderful oasis. The kitchen is well equipped, though as a suggestion to the owner, you need a new coffee maker and less crowded cupboards so the guests have somewhere to put their food. The views of the water are lovely, and it is great for canoeing and kayaking. However, the waters edge is not a great place for children to play or swim, as it is rocky and there is not a safe place to enter the water. There is a lot of standing water on the property, so the bugs can be insane. Best to bring some sort of bug repellant, and lots of afterbite! Overall I would recommend this cottage to families with older children, or a group of adults - if you can settle on who gets the King Bedroom

Cozy heart warming place in a gorgeous location
When we arrived, one feeling that we got from the cottage was “alive”. The sense of aliveness in the cottage, around it, the water and the setting sun, it all felt both relaxing and rejuvenating. The place feels cozy and spacious at the same time. We loved firing the wood burning oven at night, kayaking and paddle boarding before and after our hikes at Lion’s Head and Bruce Peninsula park. Hostess-wise it felt like Victoria was within reach and yet the place felt uniquely ours for the weekend that we spent there. Thank you!

A wonderful stay for our family- highly recommend
Our family truly enjoyed our stay. Our group consisted of my husband / me and our two kids, along with my parents. Plenty of space and sleeping options. So much to do around the house! We explored and saw a ton of small animals / critters- which was a blast for our 3year old. House was well stocked. It has definitely been well loved, but adds to the character for sure. We did arrive on some uncharacteristically hot summer days- no central AC but we just kept the blinds close from the sun for those couple of hours. Recommend bringing some small fans if you’re coming in summer, just in case! Location was perfect for us, far enough away to have great quiet time and close enough to do everything we wanted. Nothing beats sitting on the porch watching the sunset. Definitely note the trash times and locations- very specific and one of the locations was closed when it said “open” online- the locations are not close so make sure you plan for that! All communications with Victoria were instantaneous- she was so helpful and kind. Thank you Victoria for a wonderful experience!!

Great spot!
Big cottage with lots of room. Nice layout. Interesting shoreline to explore and paddle around although it is not the best for swimming (water shoes are a must). Close to Bruce Penisular NP. Water from the tap has a sulphur smell and taste and we bought jugs of water for drinking in town. Not a fancy, modern, renovated cottage that you would see on Instagram but great for ppl who like things real, down to earth, and lived in (like us).

Beautiful Views!
My husband and I had a great time at Victoria’s cottage. It was the perfect setting for a get away in nature for our anniversary. We enjoyed hiking in the National Park and coming home to relax in the hot tub. The word burning stove was wonderful too for the cold evenings. It was too cold to enjoy the kayaks, but we appreciated that they were available for use. Tobermory Brewery was the only restaurant open this time of year, but they had excellent food, drinks, and service. We hope to visit again during the summer to see all Tobermory has to offer. Thank you, Victoria!

Fall stay near Tobermory
Were 7 adults friends - no couples - who were hiking the Bruce Trail from Lion's Head to Tobermory during the last week of October. Sunset Lakehouse turned out to be the perfect place for us. We each had our own bed and cooked dinner in the house every evening and found the kitchen to be very well equipped. Several of us greatly enjoyed the hot tub every day after many hours of hiking. Victoria was very responsive when we needed her. Highly recommended

Hello!
Welcome to Tobermory. Thank you for your interest in our space. We are a family of 5 with a busy household so this cottage is such a beautiful and relaxing place away from big city life. We assure you, as travellers ourselves we realize the need for comfort and reliability along with a budget. We work really hard at being transparent with our amenities and our hospitality. Having easy communications and quick responses help travelling with small children or big kids that much more simpler. This home will certainly have your family and friends thanking you for the memories. I hope you have a wonderful time here in Northern Bruce Peninsula!

Why they chose this property

The Bruce Peninsula is one of the very last places in Southern Ontario that has minimal light pollution, attracting thousands of outdoor enthusiasts who travel to escape the city lights and to enjoy its Caribbean-like waters, cliffs and starry skies. Be mindful of our beautiful, natural environment. Both of the Peninsula’s national parks are designated by the Royal Astronomical Society as Dark Sky Preserves, and the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula is a dedicated Dark Sky community.
Moonlit nights never looked so amazing!

What makes this property unique

This cottage is winterized and has year round road access. It's very private and peaceful due to its double lot size. Screened by natural forestry, creeks, ponds and streams. You'll have all the space needed to enjoy with your family and friends.

Currently working on renovations on outdoor entertainment. Photos to come for 2022.

Feel free to contact us any time with questions. Our booking schedule is always up to date. Guaranteed!

Recent guest review:

From: Colette (2019)

"Sunset Lakehouse is accurately depicted through it’s photos. You can expect to find everything you need and more. The interior layout is ideal. Each room has a different feel and each is separate from the other thereby feeling private. I would recommend one big/extended family over two families sharing because there is only one clear master bedroom and it will be coveted; So much so that my three kids gave up their rooms to sleep with me - And they’re not so little! The property itself is a dream. Visually separate from the respectful neighbours, peaceful, clear waters, a family of Canada geese, a heron, ducks, frogs, no motorboat traffic, shallow water activities plus deeper waters for swimming and paddling. Use of canoe, kayaks, SUPs, life jackets, and bikes. Being deep within the Dark Sky Preserve region you can see Jupiter, Saturn, all the Northern constellations, the milky way, and shooting stars. We also saw the International Space Station go by. All from the deck. A bike ride to Singing Sands, a short ride to Tobermory, many hiking trails, the Grotto, Cave Point, Lions Head, even the scene at Sauble Beach. What to be aware of? It’s a cottage and other people use it. There may be stains on the tea towels, tiny chips on a plate or two, something placed where you would not normally look for it, spider webs in the rafters outside. These “imperfections” will make for a perfectly relaxing holiday. You’ll feel immediately at home."
