About Tim Bannister
Tim Bannister got into innkeeping accidentally, when his stepfather surprised his mother with the purchase of a resort with a motel and 12 cottages in nearby Arcadia. It was a long, colorful and rocky road until the resort was sold off in 2007, but Tim learned a great deal as an innkeeper ad decided to build off that experience.
Tim Bannister purchased this House in 2007
Why Tim Bannister chose Frankfort
Pierside Lodging had been a bed-and-breakfast that had closed 4 years earlier when Tim purchased the property. Built in 1890, the house had a long history as an inn, going back to its hosting of the workers who built the nearby Frankfort Pier.
What makes this House unique
Today, Serendipity House is a one-of-a-kind inn tailored to vacationers who want a unique experience that incorporates their accommodations. Situated on Main Street a block from Lake Michigan and at the edge of Frankfort's charming downtown district, the inn recalls earlier times when residents called out greetings to passersby from their front porch. Serendipity House has the porch, as well as updated living space with the amenities for vacationers who enjoy something unique.

Perfect location in city center. Clean. Ann was very helpful 😄
Great location, however not everything we expected
While the owners were very courteous and easy to reach, the property did not meet expectations,
- Beds very old and broken down, both our backs hurt
- Paper thin walls, one gentleman left his room to take an am call, unfortunately this put him on the nice front porch, outside our room. We heard every word
- Every footstep above was very loud
- Do not feel we should have to strip our beds and clean up, take out garbage since we are paying a cleaning fee
- Water heater was out first morning, which is understandable. Unfortunately we wasted an hour waiting for the water to heat up, thinking it was just used up by other guests. After we had wasted an hour we called, were told they were aware and taking care of. All understandable, just would have been nice to get a call or text before we had to call. We could have gone to breakfast and come back
First off let me apologize for your trouble. While we knew about the water heater issue and had it resolved as soon as possible, we were not aware that another guest made your stay less than enjoyable by having a loud conversation on the front porch. It's unfortunate that you didn't let us know or ask the guest to perhaps take his cell phone call elsewhere.
We can improve upon are the beds and we will be sure to replace them in time for next season.
The cleaning fee is for our hard working housekeeper to dust, vaccuum, change linens, replace towels and disinfect the bathroom and kitchen. We ask our guests to put used linens and towels on the floor in the bathroom at the end of their stay and remove any garbage from the suite as a courtesy to our housekeeper who has five suites to clean in five hours.
We're sorry that you are unhappy with that arrangement but we must adhere to it so that all suites can be cleaned in under five hours.
Thank you for your nice comments about our location, being courteous and easy to reach. We appreciate your business and we are sorry that we didn't meet your expectations for this visit.
Nice place to stay, listing inaccurate
Great location, room is sufficient. It's a nice kitchenette. The porch is lovely. It's oddly decorated, the bathroom door doesn't open all the way, shower amenities are not provided (all other properties we've stayed at had soap for the shower) so be prepared, coffee maker is nice but there was no cream provided. The front of the property leaves much to be desired. It doesn't look cared for.
Overall, I would stay here again, however the property needs to work on the details to make it truly desireable.
Dear Michelle, Thank you for review. We’re glad you would stay with us again.
Since your visit, we have had landscaping completed in the front of the house (once it finally stopped raining). The house was built in 1890 and as such has some quirks that make it unique which is what our return guests always compliment us on.
As for soap we supply dish soap, liquid hand soap, linens and towels but we do not provide our guests with shower amenities as most guests prefer to bring their own. That information was included in your welcome letter. We regret any inconvenience this caused you and welcome you to stay the next time your travels bring you and your husband to northern Michigan! Thanks and have a wonderful summer!
A but worn with a few minor issues but overall a good choice for a night's stay in a great location.
Thanks for your review, we’re glad you enjoyed your stay and Serendipity House’s location just steps from the beach & downtown. We welcome your return!
Convenient to the lake, walking to good restaurants, comfortable beds.
We really enjoyed coming to Frankfort. Good side trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes well worth the time.
Thank you for the positive review. It's true; we are in a geat location to support your vacation adventures! Tim Bannister
Owner is very accommodating and provided everything needed for a great stay. Great location as well
Thanks for a thoughtful review. Come back often. I will remain accommodating, as will the location! Tim Bannister, Host
Serendipity/Betsie is located in Frankfort, Michigan, across from Betsie Bay and a block from Lake Michigan and its sandy beaches and breathtaking sunsets. Frankfort began life as a central point for shipping lumber, and with its proximity to water, woods and sand dunes, it eventually evolved to a vacation destination.
Today, Frankfort features a walkable downtown with quaint shops, one-of-a-kind restaurants and a restored movie theater. The 22-mile Betsie Valley Biking Trail begins across the street, while within a half-hour drive are several vineyards, organic markets, and art galleries.
