About Jennifer Smitheram
We are two fun and hardworking Kiwi families who love the beauty and laidback vibe of Waiheke, where you can escape your routine and chill with time to read, think and reconnect.
Jennifer Smitheram purchased this Guest House in 2016
Why Jennifer Smitheram chose Palm Beach
We chose the name Te Ihi, which in the Maori language means life energy or excitement, because we always feel recharged and reconnected after spending time on Waiheke.
What makes this Guest House unique
Te Ihi Palm Beach is brand new and was designed specifically as a holiday apartment with you in mind. It has been set up to boutique hotel standard, with all the equipment and style required for you to have a delightful stay on Waiheke, including soaps and hair care bottles by Ritual Aotearoa .

Hard to beat property

Waiheke has over 20 vineyards, with accompanying restaurants and/or tasting rooms. Our favorites include:
Man O War Vineyards is worth the drive, being beach side it is beautiful, relaxing Kiwi style, with a colonial style tasting room and shared platters available and picnic tables on the grass lawn. The perfect place to while away an afternoon and also see Stony Batter on route.
Poderi Crisci set in the Awaawaroa valley has stunning wines (some say the best on Waiheke Island), who grow their own vegetables for the award winning Italian restaurant. Aucklanders choose Poderi Crisci to celebrate special occasions. The Sunday Long Lunch is renowned for which bookings must be made, set aside four hours and enjoy!
Cable Bay Vineyard is in Oneroa and has a laidback vibe with bean bags and a outdoor bar, with the finer dining restaurant alongside, all facing stunning views back to Auckland City.
Mudbrick Vineyard and restaurant in Oneroa stunning views and fine dining food in a beautiful setting. Its Archive Bar and Bistro has a more casual experience.
Casita Miro in Onetangi was voted best destination restaurant in Auckland 2018. Specializing in Spanish cuisine, set in a very pretty building. 8 minutes drive from our place.
Stoney Ridge on Onetangi Road is famous for its wines and is conveniently next to Wild on Waiheke that has archery, claybird shooting, wildtag, petanque etc. It has a café and wine tasting set in olive groves.
Close by is Te Motu Vineyard that has a cellar door and award winning restaurant The Shed, which is a mainstayer on Metro's Top 50 Restaurants in Auckland.
The Batch Winery and Cellar Door at 126 Carsons Road has a restaurant with stunning sea views over the whole island. High tea and bubbles can also be pre-booked.
Head to the beach! Onetangi Beach (6.3kms from our place) is the longest beach (being 1.87 kms), while Palm Beach and Little Palm Beach at the end of our street are the most beautiful. Oneroa Beach and Little Oneroa (3.8kms
from our place) are great but busier. Rocky Bay is quieter, being a rocky beach. Palm Beach, Onetangi Beach and Oneroa Beach are surfable when a 1 to 2 meter northerly swell.
Go kayaking, stand up boarding or windsurfing with Ross from Kayak Waiheke. Explore, have your own adventure or have a guided tour. For an extra fee Ross will meet you in Palm Beach, otherwise catch the local bus to Matiatia Wharf and meet at his waterside premises. See www.kayakwaiheke.co.nz.
A massage is the perfect way to chill, recharge and reconnect while also being a treat! Waiheke Massage – Cloud9Healing will come to you at our place. They can set up in where you prefer (ie deck / lounge) and offers a range of massages, including relaxation, duo, pregnancy massage and reiki. $60 for 30 minute or $100 for 1 hour of a relaxation massage. Go fishing with Matt from Chas’n Tail Fishing Charters who offer fish charters and also water taxi services. See www.waihekefishingcharter.co.nz The fishing trips leave from the Matiatia Marina, which is a super quick bus ride away.
There is a stunning loop walk from our place, for which we include full details in our guide. You can also walk a part of the Te Ara Hura track! The walk goes through Palm Beach, for which you could take the walk to Oneroa or Onetangi and back.
