About Dennis or Janet
Janet is a community organizer and works with an organization that serves elders in Boston. Dennis is an author of several books, and was a protestant minister in his earlier years. We have three grown children, and all have spent many happy and meaningful times in Northport, Maine over the past 32 years.
Dennis or Janet purchased this House in 1986
Why Dennis or Janet chose Northport
We bought this property because of the incredible beauty of the natural surroundings, and all of the wonderful recreational opportunities it allows. When we first purchased the property, it had an old house on it that had burned down many years ago upon it. Over the 32 years, we slowly cleared the land and, with some help with a friend who is a master carpenter, built the house and cottage. We really enjoy our time there, but we enjoy just as much when people share their stories and how much they appreciated their time at Knight's Pond!
What makes this House unique
There are few places anywhere that you can visit that provides so much outdoor recreational potential, natural beauty, privacy and comfortable and scenic lodging. Then there are the many small communities nearby which provide a plethora of cultural and recreational opportunities along the ocean and bays, including some of the finest restaurants in Maine within short driving distance. There is never a shortage of things to do or places to go.

Private house with beautiful view
We stayed for a weekend and it was a fine place for our needs (we were in ME for the Common Ground Fair). The house is located in a quiet, out-of-the-way location, but that is still convenient (~15 min) to Belfast and the Fair.
bedding is uncomfortable
Large property, can accommodate larger groups. Beds and mattresses are uncomfortable .
We have two brand new Tuft and Needle mattresses which we bought this year for replacements. The others have less than five years usage, and are quality mattresses. I regret that they didn't please you.
Peaceful retreat in the treetops
The main house on this property was built on a bluff. Every morning I sat on the ample porch, sipped tea, read, and looked out over the treetops to the mountains beyond. It was complete bliss. In the evening, everyone would race to the third floor for nightly, breathtaking views of the sunset. Between the mornings and the sunsets, we swam and kayaked from the sandy beach that was a few minutes drive from the house, discovered the local towns, and played board games at the massive dining table. The house and cottage were the perfect locale for our small family reunion of eight plus the family dog. Many thanks to Dennis and Janet for efficiently replying to any questions that we had and for sharing their lovely home with us.
Thank you so much for your review, and for being such great guests! We are always pleased to hear that our guests have discovered what we love and treasure most about Maine.
Our stay was very nice and the owners worked with us and made our stay great
The house is spacious and clean and settled with in a beautiful spot. A walk away from a unpopulated pond. Sunsets are nice to view from the top floor solarium, which is also where the teens chose to sleep for the two nights. Not a lot of lights/lamps for nighttime, but we like low light, so it worked for us! Thanks for the accommodations!
Hideaway in the Hills
Just 15 minutes from Belfast and the shore, 5 minutes from a placid lake, this large comfortable house feels remote and private. The sky is star filled, the surroundings great for exploration and all needs met on the property. It was perfect for our family get-together.
