About Mr Ben Gooder
The villa has bee recently renovated to a very high standard and is my much loved family home.
Mr Ben Gooder purchased this Villa in 1997
Why Mr Ben Gooder chose Lucca
We wanted somewhere secluded, with reliably-lovely weather during the summer months that could be a home away from home for all of us. Casa Berti, with its warmth and tranquility, answered all our needs. We have invested much time, love and money in making the house comfortable, practical and beautiful.
What makes this Villa unique
Our house is one of the most tranquil places I know. It is set above the small village and church. There are wooded hills all around the property with endless walks and stunning views. It is lovely to be there at any time of year and the property is within easy reach of the cultural centres of Tuscany. The house itself offers plenty of diversions for rainy days (Wifi, Snooker, table tennis, games and, TV) as well as for sunshine. The kitchen is very well equipped because we all like cooking. It is decorated and furnished as a family home, not just as a rental property. We hope that you would love it as much as we do.

We wish we were still there!
My family just fell in love with Casa Berti! We wish we could have stayed even longer than our 2 weeks. There were 14 of us and we were all super comfortable. The pool, decor, views are fabulous. The only thing to consider is that the villa is way off the beaten path. Literally. Up winding roads that took some of us a bit to get used to. It feels far away but that is one of the many things that makes it great. It's not for folks who to live like a tourist. Rather, it's for people who want to live like a luxurious Italian. It was so lovely to tour Lucca and explore little towns then return to such a beautiful haven. We would love to return!
An idyllic July week at Casa Berti
Our extended (14-member) family spent an idyllic July week at Casa Berti, enjoying the serene beauty of Tuscany as part of a golden anniversary celebration. The winding road up the mountain is not for the faint of heart, but the destination was all we had hoped for and more.
Casa Berti is a spacious and well-appointed villa. We used both the main house and the farmhouse, which included three small children and two teens. The pool was a welcome break from the summer heat and our three generations enjoyed playing badminton and bocce on the lawns. Mr. Gooder's gardener is a busy person, as the grounds are covered with well-maintained lemon trees, vibrant flowers and a fragrant wall of jasmine. The house manager Claire, arranged for a chef to cook an amazing meal on our first night there, and the fully equipped kitchen provides an easy means to provide big family meals as well. Claire also stopped in several times during our week and was so helpful in lining up a photographer as well as providing recommendations on things to do in Lucca, which is a charming town. The villa is elegant and at the same time lived-in comfortable. Our week passed quickly and we alternated relaxing at the villa grounds with trips to Florence, Cinque Terre and Lucca (including a wonderful tasting at Fattoria Al Dotto). One of our favorite things to do at the end of the day was hanging out with a few bottles of wine in the outdoor dining table, which is covered with a natural ceiling of tree bows and sparkling lights, enjoying the amazing views and marvelling at our good fortune in finding this villa.
Thank you Marisa, you were perfect guests and I hope we will see you again. Ben
Truly an Amazing Experience
We visited this beautiful home located near Lucca and the adorable town of Ponte a Moriano. The home has everything from amazing views to a fully stocked gourmet kitchen to wonderful large bedrooms. Ben the owner was great to work with before and during our stay and his property manager was very helpful with suggestions. Ben even secured a chef for a few dinners who cooked delicious meals for our whole family. The grounds are pristine and wonderful to roam and the pool and outdoor eating areas are perfect for evening dinners outside.
I highly recommend this home for your trip to Italy especially if you are celebrating a special occasion.
17 family members age 5 to 76!
To spend a week on a property that had something to offer for all regardless of age. Just great. Peace and quiet, but still not far from various places of interest - including the Mediterranean.
However, top character could have been reached by providing air conditioning also in the farm house, but that did not take away the feeling of a true luxurious vacation for all.
Idyllic setting outside of Lucca.
We really enjoyed our time at Casa Berti. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The pool was sparkling and welcoming on the warm summer days. We especially love the large stone outdoor dining table overlooking the pool and the valley. The bedrooms and bathrooms are large, bedding extremely comfortable and the kitchen well stocked with kitchen utensils, dishes and many spices.
The owner Ben is a supremely gracious gentleman and very fun to interact with as well. He is quick to help whenever you need recommendations for places to see or directions in the area.
Thanks for the memories, we look forward to returning again!
Thank you for those kind words, Peter. It was a great pleasure to meet you and your family and I hope you're be back to visit us soon.
Luxury in Lucca
Casa Berti surpassed all our expectations. The pictures do not do justice to the spectacular views on all sides. The bedrooms are beautifully finished with expensive bed linen and super comfortable beds. It feels like a much loved home and we felt very much at home in this extraordinary place.
Historic towns of Lucca, Pisa and Florence are within an hour, spa towns of Bagni di Lucca and San Giuliano Terme are also nearby. Direct access to excellent woodland walks, superb hiking along well-marked walking routes in the national parks of the Alpi Apuane and Garfagnana. Stunning gorge (Orrido di Botri), river swimming, marble quarries, medieval hilltop towns, rock climbing, wine routes and great cycling (road and off-road). On the coast, there are boat-trips to Elba and the Cinque Terre, the artistic centre of Pietrasanta, and Forte dei Marmi, the heart of the Italian Riviera. Excellent skiing at Abetone in winter (75 mins) and there are several golf courses nearby.
Festivals: Lucca Rock Festival (July), Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago (July to August), various local celebrations of chestnuts and fungi porcini in the Autumn.
