Why Sophie Berdah chose 3rd Arrondissement
The Marais is an area that you'll want to visit every time you're in Paris. You'll find so many reasons to go : Centre Georges Pompidou, this amazing designed building with a lot more to offer than just a museum, la Maison Europeenne de la Photographie, a must for contemporary photos exhibits, la Place des Vosges .... The Marais is also and mainly a place to hang out choosing the right place to have a proper lunch, wandering around the narrow streets and peeking into private courtyard and private mansions
What makes this Apartment unique
Very close to metro station and at the same time in the heart of the Marais but in a quiet street!
Check-in: 3:00 p.m.
Check-out: 10:00 a.m.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date. 50% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
Great location & very clean.
We asked for a “people mover” since there were 4 adults plus 6 suitcases & cabin bags. Despite a number of email requests to co firm this none were responded to. Consequently we were met with a sedan where we had to sit with suitcases on our laps which was very unsuitable & uncomfortable.
When I complained, it took 3 days before I had a response with the owner coming to the apartment unannounced but welcome.
I also requested a people mover to take us to the station which was arranged for a fee & the correct vehicle arrived.
We were also unable to access the cable channels. After 3 days & several email during her visit, the owner explained that the instructions were date. All that was required was an email in the first instance that the instructions were out of date.
The lighting in the apartment living areas is inadequate with bare bulbs in the standard lamps that make you feel like your eyes are going to be burned out. We consequently relied on the “atmospheric “ low lighting from the chandeliers.
The halogen lights above the kitchen work area that were working when the photos were taken are no longer. A bare bulb standard lamp nearby supplied some inadequate lighting. Visit to the Bazar at the Hotel de Ville sells LED strip lighting for €39 which dies not require installation by an electrician.
The secretaire in the living room dies not have any available power outlets which meant that we were unable to sit at it & use or charge our iPads.
The master bedroom has inadequate bedside tables which meant we had to charge electronics on the floor overnight.
The apartment is very charming but needs updating since it’s 2009 renovation to accommodate 21st century travellers. Having stayed in similar accommodation in Paris in 2003, I would say that this otherwise comfortable apartment is a very much a 2009 time capsule which could be made more comfortable.
Other positive aspects are that it is very, very quiet, very well located to the Metro & Metro connections. The Monoprix supermarket was only minutes away by foot & it was very well stocked with good & bakery products. Consequently we cooked some delightful meals.
The convenience of a lift was greatly appreciated moving our many items of heavy luggage in & out of the apartment as well as not having to climb stairs after a long day seeing the sights of beautiful Paris.
I would recommend booking this apartment, however I hope that Sophie takes on board similar guest reviews.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback. We are glad to hear that you would recommend booking this apartment and that you enjoyed the stay in the apartment and were able to take advantage of the kitchen and nearby supermarkets! It does help to make the experience much more homey. We hope you were also able to discover some of the restaurants in the area!
I am sorry to hear that you did not have the right car for your pick-up, we did note to the drivers that you had a lot of luggage but they must not have understood that this required a large car, and we apologize for this inconvenience. However, for the departure, we did specifically ask the chauffeur company to assure that they send a van as you had a lot of luggage. I am also very sorry to hear that you found some problems within the apartment. We will do our best to adress the lighting and access to power outlets throughout the apartment, and we appreciate the feedback.
Do not hesitate to get in touch next time you are in Paris, we would be happy to have you again!
We really enjoyed our stay here. It was right next to a major metro line that we were able to take to anywhere in Paris. Rooms were very accommodating. A prior review mentioned that it was loud at night but we slept with the windows open and did not notice this at all. Overall, we would definitely stay at this unit again.
Thanks Johnny for the lovely review! We are happy to hear that you liked the apartment and enjoyed your stay.
We hope to see you again soon
Great summer 2019 stay in Le Marais
8 of us (2 grandparents, 2 adults, 4 kids ages 9-17) enjoyed our stay at Enfents-Rouges. We rented both the large and small adjoining property (both accessible through a main door so it 'feels' connected). The property has all you would require for your stay even if you wanted to eat in... we didn't, there are great restaurants everywhere in this area. It was a HOT week in Paris (over 100 degrees), and the portable air conditioning units helped keep it moderately cool (though they need to be vented outside, with the window open); 1 additional unit would have been very helpful. When the temps cooled, we did not use the AC units at all. The area is very safe and easily accessible by subway and a short hop to Gare du Nord. Check in was fast... the pre arrival video was very helpful and the included transport from the train station was a HUGE plus (we used the same driver for departure to CDG). The staff was very responsive and provided recommendations on the best restaurants and places to get groceries, morning pastries, etc. All in all a great stay and I would recommend the properties.
Thank you very much for your nice review!
We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us. As the weather was unexpectedly hot this week, we did not have an extra portable AC unit available but we will make sure to have one ready if you decide to come back. I am happy to hear the pick up service and recommendations were useful.
I hope we can welcome you again soon!
A wonderful stay!
We (a group of 4 adults) recently stayed at Enfant-Rouges, and we were very happy with the apartment. The owner of the apartment, Sophie Berdahl, was extremely helpful, and even came to the apartment to change a burnt-out light bulb.
We were in Paris during an intense heat wave. One day the temperature reached 44 C / 108 F, which was the highest temperature EVER recorded in Paris. But we were able to remain quite comfortable, because the apartment is equipped with two portable air conditioners and a powerful fan.
The apartment is at the very northern end of the Marais, and there are many cafes, restaurants, and shops nearby.
Thank you so much for the lovely feedback! First of all, good job for surviving the Parisian heatwave! We are glad to hear that the apartment was comfortable even during the heat. We hope to see you back to further explore the area and lovely Paris!
Best wishes and till next time,
Comfortable but noisy and dated
Let me start with everything we experienced was in the reviews prior to our stay. Because it was hot, we had to keep the windows open (even with the portable AC units). Since you are on the second floor, it’s pretty noisy. The portable AC units did a great job. But initially they only provided one and we had to ask for the second one that was in the listings. Beds were comfortable which is always a risk. Furniture is worn. Stains on the fabric and other worn spots. But it’s comfortable furniture and plenty of space to spread out. The master bath is odd - toilet is in a separate room but adjoined to the shower/sink room by a pane of glass so you can see into each space which obviously limits privacy. Washing machine was a huge plus for us. And kitchen/dining area made breakfast easy.
The free transportation upon arrival was awesome! But midway through the drive to the apartment, the driver got a call and had to take us somewhere else first. Because of his limited English, we weren’t 100% sure what was happening but decided to trust it would be fine - and it was. The doors to the building can be hard to open until you do it a couple of times and then it gets easier.
Owner was easy to work with and pretty responsive. Not the best place we’ve stayed but not the worst either . Good option in a convenient neighborhood if you can handle the noise.
Great location, place needs TLC
The flat was in a great location and stayed cool even in a major heat wave. The place definitely needs some tlc--purple chair in picture is faded to gray, strong mold smell coming from somewhere-either fridge or washer? But it is very comfortable. The front door is really hard to open even with video...really need someone to show you how in person. Washer is great but dryer function is minimal. Do not have host arrange transportation when you leave--take an Uber or metro as the one arranged for us cancelled 30 mins ahead and we barely made our train. All this said, location is perfect. Walk to museums and metro easily everywhere.
