Why Richard J. Hausner Interests chose Germantown
The beauty of the valley speaks for itself. Located 100 miles north of NYC, Columbia County is a slowed pace country wonder with surprising upsides: tremendous historic significance, stimulating cultural events, quality restaurants, quaint shopping, serious antiquing, abundant outdoor activities and sunsets matched by no other.
What makes this Chalet unique
It's all about the view! The moment you step onto the ridge you will be taken away by the mountains and the mighty Hudson River. This multi-county area is steeped in historic properties and is the heart and soul of the Hudson River School of Painting. Artists Thomas Cole and Fredric Church built their estates a stone's throw up the river. Roosevelt's, Vanderbilt's and Astor's have long called this valley their home. Although there are ample gently rolling trails, hiking around the entire 23 acres can be challenging as the steep slopes of the river and abutting kill jet up to a high ridge. This was once a Native American campground overlooking these bodies of water. Arrowheads and artifacts have been found here for years. The beauty is not lost on the abundant wildlife that feeds here. Wild turkeys, deer, ducks, geese and bald eagles are common visitors. It's a wonderful place to explore.

This was an excellent long weekend getaway. The place itself was incredibly clean and had everything you could possibly need. The pool and jacuzzi were amazing and the property was beautiful. We came in the winter but would love to come back in the spring to hike around the area. The house is pretty secluded but it’s only a 15 minute drive to shops and restaurants. All of our questions were answered quickly, they were very responsive and helpful. Thanks so much.
Just as advertised
Beautiful property, accommodations and view. Perfect for a couples get away
Yes, it’s true the cottage at Sunset is even better than the photos. A special calm retreat just far enough, yet close enough, to restaurants and shops. Gazing at the Catskills across the river, and up to the stars at night were just magical for our 30th anniversary. We plan to come back throughout the different seasons.
We stayed here mid September for my mini babymoon and getaway - I was 35 weeks pregnant at the time. It was the best decision and absolute perfect place to stay. We brought our pups who loved the property. We spent most of our time relaxing, using the indoor pool that was in amazing condition, hiking the property with the pups and playing fetch on the perfectly manicured lawn. The views, you could sit out there all day and not get bored. We bbq’d and enjoyed the sunset. We saw two bald eagles using the binoculars. This property is simply amazing for a romantic getaway. The great thing about it is you can have a fabulous time just staying home on the property but if you want to get out and go places there is also so much to do around the area. One helpful critique if I had to say, would be to remove spider webs and clean for spiders. We saw some inside. I am completely understanding of the area the cottage is in, it was not a big deal at all but
Beautiful, Quiet, Mostly Perfect!
My wife and I brought our 1 year old here for a quick family getaway. The reviews are right, the photos don’t do this place justice.
The owner/staff were very helpful and responsive. The place was amazing. Here are some stand-outs:
The essentials— This place has everything you need, and even a handy binder full of helpful information. It really made it easy to stay here.
The pool/hot tub—If you have a small kid/kids, it was a great touch. FYI though, the pool does get deep if you have some not-so-strong swimmers. I’m 6’2” and it came to my neck.
The kitchen/grill: the kitchen was awesome, looks great and has a lot of space. And one of my favorite memories from our trip will definitely be grilling around sunset with such spectacular views!!
The could-have-been-betters— there are a few things that could have been better that prevent me from giving this place 5 stars:
1) the baby gate that is build into the stairs doesn’t close securely. We had to tie it shut whenever we were there to make sure our little one wouldn’t fall. This made it a bit annoying to go up and down the stairs as needed.
2) the place was MOSTLY clean, but after about 30 seconds of playing with my daughter on the rug we were covered in dog hair. Not a huge problem for us, but beware if you’re allergic.
3) the water was really soft. Like.. extremely soft. Not sure if there is a good fix here, but it made it hard to get clean (hands, dishes, etc).
4) the screen doors they use often leave gaps at the top and bottom allowing some bugs in. Also some of them were broken near the pool area.
Don’t get me wrong, even with the things listed above, this place was well worth it and we hope to come back sometime! I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a good, quiet, couples or small family getaway!
