Our family fell in love with Playa Junquillal the first time we visted and we have been part of the community ever since.
Why Maire chose Junquillal
Playa Junquillal is a wonderful place to get away from it all. This tranquil setting has a 180 view of the ocean. We love the peaceful sunrises and sunsets from the balconies, the amazing number of stars at night and the sights and sounds of the ocean. The sounds of nature are all around - the parrots chasing each other across the lawn, the howler monkeys in the trees and the large zappos (frogs).

Beautiful beach house
We loved our stay in this magnificent home. Walking distance to a gorgeous beach and close to many local attractions. The home is very spacious and even has a washer and dryer so we could launder our clothes. Suldri is very friendly and keeps everything in great condition. It was a bit warm on the main level and upper level. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook at home. We had two families in this home with 4 adults and 8 kids and we had plenty of room. We would love to visit again!
Lovely time in Junquillal
We really enjoyed staying in this remote area (Junquillal) where you can get everything you need locally including stunning sunsets on a variety of beaches, a sanctuary for Baula Tortugas, kayaking in a real estuary, surfing at Playa Negra and Avellanas, snorkeling at both Playa Blanca and the tide pools at Playa Junquillal. The house suited our multi-aged family very well (8months to 69 years). We stayed for 10 days, with the younger family first, and then the family with 3 active school aged boys for the last 4 days. Suldri the housekeeper and Owner, Emer, were so helpful for getting settled into the location and caring about our experiences. Couldn't say enough ! Our only issue (4 not 5 stars) was that it is very hot in this time of year in Costa Rica, and the house although well ventilated was extremely warm all day. The older couple used the air conditioned downstairs bedroom instead of the stunning Master bedrooms for this reason. But I think if you know the seasons, and are prepared to be always warm, the house is very suitable. Best wishes, Nancy and family
Amazing view, excellent staff!
Very comfortable beds, an amazing view, loved the monkeys nearby and the beautiful beach and sunsets. The staff, Suldri, was seemingly cleaning up behind us, she was amazing at keep ing place clean.
A wonderful experience!
Relaxing Vacation at the Villa
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were looking for a place we could all be together, play games, sing, and easily spend time at the beach. The house provided it all. We often woke early and walked the beach. Around mid day we drove to Lonchitas (I believe that was the name) and picked up typical Costa Rican food that we had pre-ordered. That way we weren't cooking during the heat of the day. We played games till about 3 or 4pm every day. Then we all walked back down to the beach for a fun filled time in the waves and on the beach. We always stayed there till just after sunset. The sand was fine black sand and the water was clear and clean. And most days we had the whole beach to ourselves. We saw the baby turtles released into the water one evening! And we saw and heard the howler monkeys at least three times! We also saw one scorpion on the road and about a million ants everywhere we went in Costa Rica. It was a wonderful stay.
We are so glad you made special family memories celebrating milestone birthdays and enjoying spectacular "Flash Gordon" sunsets!
Eco-Tourist Hideaway Gem
This property was an unexpected delight for those looking to adventure into the heart of Costa Rica, without giving up any amenities. Along with a wonderful Kitchen to cook in (granite tops and all appliances needed), WiFi, and a very European decorating style, it was comfortable, quiet and so close to nature. The bedrooms and bathrooms on the second floor offer stunning views and a great nights sleep.
The "sunsetting" on the balconies offered up a wonderful evening show of colors and skylines with the Beach and Ocean as our back drop. Then we retired to the Kitchen for a wonderful meal and continued back to the balconies to review the encore of a "Star" studded night sky complete with meteors if you are lucky enough, we were.
The Beach is very private and secluded with no tourists, so the Ocean was ours to enjoy at will. with long walks to the Estuary and boogie boarding. The homeowners had boards in the storage shed for us to use. It was fun.
The restaurants in Junquillal were wonderful all run by locals and getting the meet them made the experiences all the better. We love to eat out and did so often to try the local food and cuisine. I would highly recommend it.
Also, in town we were able to participate in a turtle release and watch the cycle of life unfold from our own hand. The hatchery there called the home an informed us of the time and place on the day it happened. Just stop by and put your name on the list to be called during your visit, it was a humbling experience to behold.
We loved this place and will stay there again next year, certainly enjoyed having an entire home to ourselves with access to a wonderful beach, a nice town with great restaurants, and privacy.
Enjoy and thanks to the homeowners for helping us during our visit
to get a real "Costa Rican" visit.
We are so glad you enjoyed your visit to Villa Las Palmas Real!
Amazing family vacation!!!
Our extended family of 11 (ages 7-71) stayed here for our family "Christmas" vacation. We do something every year, and, in my opinion, this was our best trip ever! First of all, Emer was wonderful all along the process of booking and preparing to arrive. After our conversation on the phone, I felt familiar with the place long before we arrived. By the time we got to the house the night of our arrival, it was dark. (Emer's directions were excellent, even in the dark) When we pulled into the driveway, we thought maybe we were at the wrong place. It was so pretty!!!! Suldri (Suldri was awesome!) was there to let us in. Let me say, I was a little nervous when we walked in, because it was very warm. The house had been closed up, and I was afraid everyone would be miserable. But soon it cooled off and we adjusted, and I don't think anyone was ever uncomfortable after the windows were opened and the house started to cool. The thing about this property is that it felt like HOME. It still felt like we were on vacation, but it was a unique experience. It was very laid back...it just felt like we had our own little slice of paradise. We met neighbors, yet the beach was usually virtually our own. It was also neat to realize the history, and that this property had been in Emer's family for some time. We had plenty of space for all of us...we could relax, or walk to the beach...watch the monkeys. We didn't all have to be doing the same thing, yet we spent great time together as well. The rocking chairs on the porch were amazing! (my dad bought one like it) In Costa Rica, there is lots to see within driving distance. But we also completely enjoyed just being on the property. My 71-year-old dad is a farmer/rancher, and is never seen without his boots and jeans. The day he walked down to the beach in his swimming trunks and sandals and played in the water with the grandkids....that was a lasting memory made and will always be treasured. We were all so much in our happy places there! A bucket list moment for me was getting to watch the turtles hatch in Junquillal, and then getting to hold them and release them. It was such an emotional experience! That night my daughters, nieces, and I got to patrol with the volunteer group watching for nesting turtles. The sky was amazing...falling stars like I've never seen. This was definitely a trip of a lifetime. Thank you SO very much Emer, for sharing your lovely home with our family.
There are 3 public beaches within easy walking distance. Playa Venado which is directly in front of the house and about one-mile long is an easy 3- 4 min. walk. We enjoy walking to the estuary on this beach each morning and evening. There is also a rocky area that provides great rock pool exploration and small pools for playing. It is a great beach for swimming or surfing. Playa Honda about a 5 min. walk away, more of a cove than a beach is about 200 yds long. It is a great area for swimming. Playa Junquillal, abt 2 miles long is a 10-15 min walk. The beaches have won the coveted Bandera Azul Award for many years. There is an excellent selection of restaurants. There are monkeys and a wide variety of birds near the house. At night, you can see Leatherback and Ridley Turtles nesting. There is an active local turtle protection group that welcomes involvement. Occasionally, you can see the spouts of Humpback whales from the deck. Golfing and National Parks are a short drive.
Other Activities: Deep sea fishing, Zip lining, Boogie boarding, Monkey, whale, turtle, bird watching, Surfing
