About Greg Smith
We deeply admire the beauty of the Island. We always feel better when we spend time exposed to nature of this unique place. We are sharing our house with our guests and we want them to feel comfortable in our house. We hope they will enjoy the nature's beauty of The Island and our private unspoiled beach.
Greg Smith purchased this House in 2002
Why Greg Smith chose Plantation
Our house located within The Plantation which is nature wonderland for those who loves to explore the outdoors. Neighboring houses are not right up against each other and you will have a sense of seclusion. The Plantation beach is unspoiled, not over crowded and clean. It is a quiet family beach... The wild life and fishing is simply amazing. You won't believe the number of different types birds, butterfly you will see on a daily basis. An early morning stroll at the beach and it is almost a guarantee to see dolphins put on show for you in the Gulf. Our private gated community has a unique partnership with the State of Florida that provides us access to one of the most pristine maritime forests on the island, known as Nick’s Hole Cove. This unique state-owned area is accessible for kayaking, hiking, picnicking, and observing the natural world. The island is also a great place to catch up on your fishing, either from a boat or the coast. We are located in 10 minute walk along the beach from the rocky canal at the Northwest end of the island that is known as a prime fishing spot, Bob Sikes Cut, where you can fish off the jetties and see Little St. George Island across the water.
What makes this House unique

Take a short walk to our private beach and wiggle your toes in the sugar-white sand on our beach. Swim in crystal waters of The Gulf., or relax at the large pool. At night watch for shooting stars or just listen to the night ocean sounds. If you want to be on the water, you can kayak, swim or spend the day on the boat. Unhappy with the property
Property had no toilet paper, trash bags, paper towels. We had to buy our own water hose to clean off sand. The property had no walks to either entrance meaning you had to walk through sand to the entrances. Kitchen was not stocked with enough pots and pans. The overall cleanliness of the property was not good. The property did have a good amount of beach items to use and 3 bikes.
We are sad to hear that you are unhappy with your stay at our house. I'll detail below, but I don't think your complaints are fully justified. We have been renting our house for over 15 years and we always care deeply about our guests' experience. We maintain very high ratings on all sites where we are listed. By renting and managing our property ourselves, we take full ownership of any issues, and by eliminating the rental agency (the middle men), we are able to provide you with the best value for the price you pay. We did provide you with complimentary bottle of wine, but at the end, you left our house in disarray, requiring extra cleaning.
The house is always stocked with initial set of toilet paper, trash bags, and paper towels. Also, we provide all our renters with check-in instructions that have a section titled "WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING WITH YOU". It clearly lists toilet paper, trash bags, and paper towels. You did acknowledge receiving our check-in instructions, but apparently you didn't care to read it. During your stay in the house you had 2 large pots, 2 medium size pots, 2 small size pots and large crock pot. In addition you had 2 frying pans and 2 small sauce pans. The house was cleaned and inspected before your arrival, just like we do for all other renters. I will acknowledge that hurricane Michael did wash away some of the gravel around the house and brought the sand. It is on our to do list to bring gravel in the near future.
After you checked out, our cleaning crew reported that your party left stained linens, towels, and trash throughout the house. One of the mirrors was removed from the wall which required two people to put it back. The house required additional cleaning.
We wish you luck in having good future vacations wherever they may be.
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Palms! The owners were very responsive and accommodating. We were able to bring our fur babies, our children were able to come and go and the weather was beautiful. There was a telescope on the premises and we enjoyed stargazing along with the beach, fishing, and shopping. We had all of the cooking utensils we needed and enjoyed cooking as well as some local restaurants. We were happy to have some relaxing family time before school starts.
The Palms is a beautiful house in a great location with a short walk to the uncrowded beach. Enough space for our family and kids enjoyed the spiral staircase. We enjoyed the bikes, chairs and wagon from the shed. Thankful we didn't have to lug those from home! Overall the house is really nice, well kept and clean. Ideal location on an amazing island. Thank you-
Thank you for taking the time for this review. We are glad that your family had a good vacation. Welcome back!
Best Vacation in Forever.
First time staying in the Plantation. Will not be the last. Quiet, cozy, and secluded.
Thank you very much for taking the time for this review. We are glad that you had a good vacation time. We are looking forward to host you in our house again.
We loved st George, the location to the beach was nice. The house was not very clean when we got there so we spent most of our Saturday cleaning. That was a little disappointing. Other than that, it was nice.
Thank you very much for taking the time to review our house. We are truly sorry to hear that you found our house not very clean upon your arrival, and we will address this issue with our cleaning team. We wish you have called us when you noticed this so we could have sent our cleaners to address this. In our check in instruction we ask our guests to report any problems with cleanness upon arrival. If you decide to give us a second chance and rent our house again, we will offer you a discounted rate in hopes of compensating for the inconvenience.
Beautiful and relaxing
This was a beautiful property that provided us a much needed vacation. The home was beautiful, well kept, clean and stocked with all essentials needed in the kitchen. The owners were very responsive to any questions we had and easy to get in touch with.
We spent the time taking multiple trips to the beach (just a short walk away) or relaxing and playing board games on the top floor overlooking the water. We will definitely be returning in the future.
We are glad that your family had relaxing time on the Island. Welcome back! St George Island is great!
You will not find high rise condominiums, congestion, or crowds. Swimming, shelling, fishing and sunning all await you here; if you want a peaceful getaway, this is the place to be. Wonderful seafood restaurants are located on the island and in nearby East Point, Apalachicola, and Carrabelle. Also, enjoy nine miles of scenic beauty in St. George Island State park located at the eastern end of the island.
Please take a look at this map. Leisure Lane is banding towards The Gulf and brings our house very close to The Gulf.
And this is where you want to be. We are also very close to Bob Sykes Cut. About 10 minutes walking on the beach. It is a very well known and one of the best fishing spot in Panhandle Florida. Only Plantation owners and their guests could fish their.
