About Peter Maltby
Why we chose the West Coast of Vancouver Island: 35 years ago when our children were young we decided to venture to the west coast of Vancouver Island to enjoy the Pacific Rim National Park, the ocean wildlife, and rain forest. We camped for an extended period of time and fell in love with our surroundings. We meandered through life venturing to many other parts of the world, but to this day the west coast of Vancouver Island is our favorite. In 1999 we bought this property between Tofino and Ucluelet on an inlet where we could enjoy nature, weather and our own peace and solitude. Since that time we have renewed the property and made it into a duplex where, we along with our son's family, can share / pass time in this beautiful pristine setting.
Why Peter Maltby chose Ucluelet
The Unique benefits of this home: We have enjoyed the beauty of the inlet and the surrounding mountains, rain forest, scenery, hiking trails, proximity to Tofino and Ucluelet, sand and surf, and the peace this environment brings. You can sit on the deck and watch the birds around you, enjoy the winter storms, and travel the many trails in this wonderful part of the west coast. There is no place like it. Inside it’s warm and cosy with all the necessities for comfortable living, even so far as plumbing on all floors. One can enjoy the winter storms from the warm protected environment of “the Inlet”. It is rare that we have an opportunity to experience nature in such a magnificent way.
What makes this Cottage unique
Other Possibilities: When our two families decided to convert the original house into a duplex, we saw the potential to bring family and friends together in one place. Two families or close-knit groups could come together and enjoy the wonder of this place. Time seems to stand still, no pressures from normal, every day stress. It is a different kind of “lost world”. One you will want to experience.

beautiful home with panoramic views across the inlet
We really enjoyed our 3 days in this lovely home. Very comfortable and relaxing with superb water views. The property was in great shape and the beautiful artwork and decorations were much appreciated. Well situated for driving to Ucluelet, the Wild Pacific Trail, the Pacific Rim Visitor Center and Tocino. The only downside was that that there were no obvious walks or hikes direct from the house. Otherwise a perfect place to stay. Thank you to Peter for making it available.
Well appointed and comfortable home.
Everything went smoothly renting this home for three nights in beautiful Ucluelet. The home has a beautiful view of the inlet and we saw bald eagles soaring past our windows. The only thing I might suggest is to make it VERY clear that there is no bedroom on the main (entry level). Another minor issue is that we never could get the TV to work. I got it to turn on but could not change the station. It was not an issue for us - on our very rainy day we read and watched the eagles fly by. Great stay!
On the inlet
Yet again, another great vacation overlooking the inlet at Ucluelet on Vancouver Island's west coast. The deck overlooks the inlet with lots of wildlife. This trip we saw a bear in the back yard feeding on berries, a seal, a bald eagle, an osprey and a dozen other bird species. Our perennial friend the heron was back at low tide most days. Thanks, Peter, for another wonderful and relaxing stay.
Washer circuit jumper switch will jump, and needed to be reset. If you are not technical person, you maybe not like doing so.
