Had the best weather ever for end of October!! Loved the character of the house and all the rooms. Great time with long time friends. 👍👍
So glad the weather was so good. I hope to see you again some time.
Beautiful Place - perfect for a larger group
Everyone was so impressed with this gorgeous property that we are already talking about coming back next year for a longer stay. We were wanting for nothing. The beds were comfortable, each suite self contained for maximum privacy and the kitchen full stocked with all the equipment you would need.
The property itself is beautiful and you can easily just sit on the porch swing for hours and savor the scenery and the peace.
We LOVED it!
Beautiful historical building in a quiet area
Very easy, owner very helpful, house comes with everything needed.
We rented the Gryphon in September for a group of 10. It was a beautiful location, and the house was fabulous. We absolutely loved it. Thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast on the large covered porch, and our evenings in the comfy living room. Kitchen was very well equipped. Extremely spacious, and beautiful architecture. Shannon was so easy to deal. We all loved the house, and had more than enough room.
Thank you Shannon!
From the Wilson's and wine tour group!
It was a pleasure to have you. Please come again!
Living history in Prince Edward County
We were a group of 9 for a couple of days in August. Gryphon Cottage was perfect. Comfortable beds. Spacious bedrooms. Big wraparound porch. Close to vineyards..
Bring a movie on blue-ray disc and watch it in the lower floor movie room on a gigantic screen!
I'm so glad you had a good stay. The weather was good for you as well. That screen room is a great place to relax after a hard day of gardening, touring or visiting vineyards. I'll look forward to seeing you again.
About Shannon Kyles
I am an architectural historian, professor of architecture, webmistress for ontarioarchitecture.com, and CBC columnist on historic architecture. I rebuilt this house because it is so lovely and I am concerned that our built heritage is being destroyed. This house was part of the Underground Railway as well as being used a a feed store, a hospital and a private home.
Shannon Kyles purchased this Cottage in 2010
Why Shannon Kyles chose Consecon
In June there are dozens or turtles that lay their eggs on the lawn and around the rees and hedges. The pond is full of frogs, toads and dragonflies. There are red winged blackbirds, herons, hummingbirds, and orioles in the nearby trees. The house has the large, generous proportions of a by-gone age. The windows are all original as are the doors, trim and baseboards. The house is stunning, and so is the location.
What makes this Cottage unique
You can cycle to The Grange, Closson Chase, Normand Hardy, Stanner, and many other local wineries. By car these wineries are ten minutes away. The property runs along the edge of the Millennium Trail, which is a 60 kilometer rail trail perfect for cycling and nature walks. Lake Consecon is about 8 kilometers long. The road around the lake is almost 20 kilometres, perfect for a short cycle.
