About Carolyn Nelson
I take great pride keeping "The Cottage" updated and am particular when it comes to cleanliness and personally work to insure high standards are maintained. While at "The Cottage" I love exploring the forest, cross country skiing and seeking out new adventures close by. There is so much to see and do! The BEST hiking trails are just behind "The Cottage". They are second-to-none offering a bird's eye view of Lake Superior & surrounding islands. Lake Superior commands the utmost respect for those venturing out on its waters, while consistently over-delivering a powerful, spiritual message to those of us admiring its grandeur shoreside. Guests will surely feel "The Spirit of Gitche Gumee" and appreciate the nature, serenity and animal neighbors who call this amazing place home. I personally enjoy traveling and believe it broadens ones perspective of the world by teaching tolerance, respect and understanding of all people and cultures. It is truly my pleasure sharing this magical place with you. Welcome!

Why Carolyn Nelson chose Neebing
This spectacular place has brought to me, friends, family and guests many cherished memories, healing escapes & heart-thumping adventures. This is truly one of my favorite places in this world.
What makes this Cottage unique
Thunder Bay is a cultural city with a "Duluth" kind-of-feel. Its WaterFront area is lovely hosting a harbor and walking paths. Here you will discover some absolutely wonderful restaurants with creative chefs and interesting cuisine. Here also is fun, interesting events. Don't miss the BrewHa Craft Beer Festival or Blues Festival held in summer months. There are numerous festivals year-round so make sure to check visitthunderbay.com for upcoming events. There is a large art community in Thunder Bay influenced by its rich, Native roots. Perhaps artists are drawn to this beautiful landscape for inspiration? Or maybe the amazing nature calls on people to become artists? Guests will surely appreciate unique, handmade crafts inspired and created in and from nature, nurture and culture. Don't miss the Thunder Bay Art Gallery with modern art by Native artists. Thunder Bay hosts an International Airport, City Centre & several Universities. The International Airport and City Centre are only 25 minutes from "The Cottage". Here guests will enjoy an upscale, new airport to fly anywhere in the world. In the City Centre guests can purchase quality meat, fresh fish, organic produce & baked goods at reasonable prices. Have you ever eaten a "Persian"? This is a special pastry ONLY from Thunder Bay. Pretend to be a "local" and stop into "The Persian Man" and try one. They are pink, sweet and delicious! I appreciate being so close to the city of Thunder Bay with its many things to do -- but my favorite place is residing at "The Cottage" overlooking ever-changing magnificent Lake Superior, which always feels a world away from everywhere else.

Had a wonderful stay! House was immaculate and had everything we needed for a great stay. A soak in the hot tub quickly became a nightly routine. Very relaxing!
Also a wonderful area. Mink Mountain hiking trail system offer some fantastic views.
Overall it was a great stay and would happily return.
My husband and I were looking for a peaceful spot to spend a week on Lake Superior. This cottage was perfect. The neighborhood was quiet and the location was beautiful. We took full advantage of spending time on the deck attached to the house along with the deck over the lake. The cottage was immaculately clean and very comfortable. Carolyn was responsive and very helpful in making suggestions for places to go. We were close enough to Thunder Bay to have dinner at a few of the nice restaurants and walk along the waterfront. We hiked Mink Mountain and Kakabeka Falls. It was the perfect place to spend a week in mid September!
So happy you enjoyed your stay and time in and around Thunder Bay. It was a pleasure hosting you.
Thunder Bay hosts many wonderful restaurants with innovative chefs and excellent cuisine. Glad you were able to try a few while visiting.
There are many excellent adventures close by -- like Kekabeka Falls, which is naturally quite spectacular! It is wonderful returning to The Cottage for the SUPERIOR views and many amenities. Truly guest's "home away from home".
Don't forget! The Cottage is available year-round. :)
Great place for peaceful vacation
Only about 40 minutes from Thunder Bay, this cottage has it all - fantastic view, easy to get to dock, hot tub, grill, and nearby scenic trails. Very well equipped. Great shower, too. We loved our stay here.
Thank you for the review!
Thunder Bay is about 30 minutes from The Cottage - depending upon road conditions and where in Thunder Bay you go. Thunder Bay has excellent restaurants if you do not want to cook at "home" and quality grocery stores stocked with fresh fish, meat, fruit & vegetables. Of course DO make a visit to one of the donut shops, which Canadians are famous for! Tim Horton's or Robin's are a few favorites -- known also for their coffee.
Of course guests are always anxious returning to The Cottage to relax, enjoy nature & take in the most incredible views. :) Welcome!
Beautiful home and lovely grounds
The title says it all. The sole nick would be that it was a bit small for 3, 70+ old folks. This would be honeymoon-like for younger couples.
This is the first less-than-5-star review received (ever) so admittedly disappointing.
The Cottage welcomes everyone -- including +70 and is received positively by all, which is reflected in the many 5-star reviews.
The Cottage hosts 3 separate sleeping areas, which can accommodate 6 guests comfortably. This includes 2 bedrooms with flat screen televisions and a brand new sleeper sofa in the main living area.
Thank you for being my guests.
Wonderful vacation and location! The cottage has everything a guest might need and the property is amazing! Privacy from neighbors, grassy yard down to lakefront, well-equipped decks and hot tub, fire pit, and a lovely pier over the lake provide numerous ways to enjoy all relaxation and rejuvenation Lake Superior has to offer. Also, we saw several deer, three foxes, and a bear on our drives to and from the cottage.
Thank you for the great review.
Guests will appreciate the privacy, which is not seen South along Lake Superior/Minnesota or North of Thunder Bay. It is because The Cottage sits 5 miles away from the main HWY 61, which means there no highway noise! The Cottage is situated on 2 acres and neighbors are usually only seen taking a walk or out on the lake. It is, however, comforting knowing there are full-time residents close enough and a lodge only 2 minutes drive up the mountain road.
One of the foxes usually meanders to The Cottage making an appearance late afternoon. Guests are surprised how tame they are -- but it is reminded the fox is not a domesticated animal and should never be approached or fed. Other frequent visitors are hummingbirds, eagles and loons. There are bears in the "neighborhood" but they very rarely make an appearance. Guests are lucky seeing them driving on one of the roads -- it is always a treat! And occasionally there is a moose sighting, which is most special!
It was a pleasure hosting you! Come back any time.
BEAUTIFUL! !! Roxanne C. , Lethbridge, Alberta
The cottage was exactly what we saw in the pictures and more!! offering everything my family and I wanted and needed for our stay in Thunder Bay. Cathy was awesome when we encountered a little hiccup and it was resolved very quickly. Thank you.
We were in Thunder Bay for my father's memorial service but we made a vacation out of it. Even though I lived in Thunder Bay for the first 20 years of my life and visited frequently, I had no idea all the beautiful sites there were to see in the vicinity. We hiked to High Falls and Finger Point Lookout, went to Kakabeka Falls (gorgeous!) and the Terry Fox Memorial, which was very emotional for us. Sleeping Giant Provincial Park is a must. So many hiking trails and the Thunder Bay Lookout in the park is stunning and scary. The Marina in town is beautiful. We walked the Suspension Bridges and dug for Amethyst, bringing home some stunning pieces for less than $5. Then to sit around a fire or in the hot tub in the evening was the icing on the cake. Some reviews mention the distance to town, but with some planning ahead, we found being a bit away from town made it more relaxing. We had several visits from the little fox and saw a couple of black bears. Thank you Carolyn for your brilliant accommodations. We hope to return one day.
Thank you for the wonderful review! I am so glad you enjoyed your stay in and around Thunder Bay — and at The Cottage. It was a pleasure hosting you.
There are so many spectacular things to see and experience close by. I am happy you discovered new and fascinating adventures!
Thunder Bay IS “close enough” without being too far away. Being at The Cottage seems a world away, which makes it a wonderful place for people living in or near Thunder Bay to visit for a weekend get away.
It is difficult describing the views, hiking trails and peaceful nature this area beholds, which is why people just must experience it for themselves! “The Spirit of Gitche Gumee” awaits your visit!
NOTE: RATE SCHEDULE IS IN US DOLLARS.

The Cottage is "on" Lake Superior, which is only 20 minutes South of Thunder Bay and 1 hour North of Grand Marias, MN.
Thunder Bay offers many tourist activities, parks, farmers markets and festivals for those exploring this very historical, beautiful, bi-lingual country. Welcome!
Old Fort Williams is one of the largest living history attractions in North America, devoted to re-creating the days of the North West Company and the Canadian fur trade.
Guests do not miss Kekabeka Falls! An impressive waterfall deeper than Niagara Falls with extensive hiking trails for all ages and abilities -- just 30 minutes from The Cottage.
Just out The Cottage door guests encounter many marked & groomed hiking trails. Pack a picnic and hike to "Picnic Point" for spectacular panoramic views of Sturgeon Bay & Lake Superior. In late summer/fall make certain to bring a pail to collect wild raspberries, which are abundant along the trails. It cannot be expressed enough how truly breathtaking the views!
Of course even in nature we must stay "connected". Wireless, high speed Internet is provided at The Cottage and mobile phone service is excellent in the area.
The Cottage is close to many adventures and tourist sites including Eagle Cannon, which has the longest extension footbridge and zip line in Canada. Kekabeka Falls, Sleeping Giant Provincial Park, Old Fort Williams, Loch Lomand Ski Area and Whitewater Golf Course. Guests, do not miss the largest Amethyst Mine in North America and bring home a purple treasure.
There are just too many "day trips" and activities for people of all ages and interests to mention here. Additional information & brochures are located at the cottage and on the Thunder Bay tourism web site.
