Off our dock, it is quite shallow for swimming, with a gradual incline in depth and a nice sandy bottom. We have two swim rafts; one with a slide to cool off and plunge into the lake, and the other is great to jump off of, but also a haven for sun-worshippers with built-in lounge chairs with cupholders.
There is great fishing whether you want to fish off of the dock or from one of our boats. The species found in our lakes include lake trout, small and largemouth bass, yellow perch, lake whitefish and pike.
My grandparents bought the land in 1969 after renting a cottage for many years on Gull Lake. The cottage was completed in 1970. It was their dream to own a place where their family could all spend holidays and family time together and reconnect. My grandparents had two children (my aunt and my dad) and my aunt and dad each had two children, so the ten of us would spend every long weekend at the cottage, and would share time the rest of the summer, and even sometimes in the winter. Spending holidays and family time together connected us, and gave us so many great memories that we will cherish forever.

Why Laurie chose Carnarvon
My grandparents picked this lot because they imagined sitting on their verandah each evening and watching the sun set together. As in much of Haliburton, there is a lot of natural rock on the land the cottage is built on, yet the swimming area is a sand bottom which is comfortable on the feet which was a must for my grandmother. She did not want to swim anywhere there was seaweed!
What makes this cottage unique
Our cottage has a lot of family history for us that we greatly cherish but wish to share. The swing on the verandah was my great-grandmother's swing that she had on her front porch when my grandma was a little girl. There are a few wooden board games in the closet that my grandfather made with his own hands and we still enjoy. My grandfather's snowshoes that he used to use to use in winters at the cottage, are on the wall in one of the bedrooms. When we were kids, my cousins, brother and I, made a fort in the woods, and years later when my kids were around the same age, they made a fort in the exact same location with their cousins. It is a history and memories that we will cherish forever and hope our guests make their own memories at Reid cottage and will return.
