Lovely relaxing family Christmas at Or hard Barn .
We had a lovely very relaxing Christmas at Orchard barn with our 3 grown up children and partners. Very spacious open plan are downstairs and cozy in evenings with woodburner. I saw a previous review comment about poor WiFi and came prepared with new DVDs and board games as WiFi not strong enough to get Apple TV or Netflix. It would be good to make this clear in the barn details in case people do not pick up on this and don’t come prepared like I did. The only issue we had was with the showers turning cold in middle of shower which seemed to be due to a water pressure problem. But we very much enjoyed getting away from it all and playing lots of games
Thank you so much for your 5 star review and I am very pleased to hear that you had a lovely relaxing Christmas around the woodburner. Unfortunately the barn is situated in a low-lying area where signal for WiFi and mobile phones is poor (a problem that BT are slow to alter) but we do supply some DVDs and games. As to the showers we are having the Local Water Authority check the water pressure to the barn shortly to see if this can be improved. I have already had a plumber check the system but there was nothing he could do. I would like to wish you and your family a Very Happy and Prosperous New Year and thank you for booking Old Orchard Barn for your Christmas celebrations. Hope to see you again one day?
Lovely! Spacious and extremely well equipped.
This was probably the most spacious and best equipped property we have ever rented! As we were planning to cook a birthday meal for the extended family we'd taken many utensils and oven dishes with us just in case, but we needn't have as everything was there, even things like foil and cling film. There was even a welcome pack, plus tea/coffee/hot chocolate. We also got a warm welcome from the owner.
The barn has four bedrooms; two doubles and two twins. Whilst all were nice, one of the doubles and one of the singles were a step above the others - we were glad to have arrived first and got first choice!!
The only negative was that the narrow windows don't let much light in so away from the large windows in the centre of the property, you need to have the lights on even during the day. However, there are a lot of lights!!!
I would have no hesitation staying here again. Thank you!
A beautifully converted barn, very comfortable. Ample parking for 4 cars. Excellent heating. Very rural location, which was fine by us. We has some minor issues with showers and water pressure, but otherwise perfect.
I would like to say thank you to my guest for taking the time to write a review. I am very pleased that you found the barn comfortable. We do our best to make it a great place to stay. I am sorry to hear you had a few problems with the shower water pressure but am pleased that you brought it to my attention. I will speak to a plumber about it. Should you wish to stay again please let me know.
Family Weekend Away
The property is set in a lovely rural quiet location.
The Barn has a large communal area which is nicely decorated and well maintained, as is the rest of the property. There is central heating throughout and a wood stove in the lounge area so we were warm and cosy during our short November stay.
We would like to thank the owner (Claire) for being most helpful and welcoming.
I would like to say a big thank you to Ian for taking the time to write his 5 star review. I was very pleased to welcome him and his family back for, I think, their fifth visit. It is great to have returning visitors who so obviously love coming to stay. I gather they have also recommended the Barn to friends and colleagues who would also be very welcome to stay at any time. I look forward to welcoming Ian and family back in the future should they wish to visit again.
A great barn conversion with loads of space for 6 of us celebrating 2 special birthdays. Beautiful outlook . Very peaceful. Well equipped. Very clean. We had a warm welcome by the owner. Communication and check in were easy. We'd all be very happy to visit again. Thank you.
I would like to say a big thank you to my recent guests for their 5 star review. It is great to get this kind of feedback as a lot of time and energy goes into making my guests' stay a comfortable and memorable one. They would be more than welcome to visit again.
This was a lovely property for our family get together. The owner has put a lot of thought into providing everything needed for a comfortable stay, as well as a basket of welcoming goodies to share. Everything is of a good quality and the property is in a beautiful area with lots to see and do. Thank you, we had a wonderful stay.
I would like to say thank you very much to my recent guest for her 5 star review and for highly recommending us. She is right, we do put a lot of thought and energy into providing everything needed for a comfortable stay. We take self-catering holidays ourselves and take note of what is on offer where we stay. The barn is situated close to the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty known as the Wye Valley and to the Historic town of Monmouth (the birth place of King Henry V). We are also close to the Royal Forest of Dean and, for the energetic walker, close to the Brecon Beacons National Park. Our guest would be very welcome to stay again at any time should she so wish.
This converted Grade II listed 18th Century stone threshing barn is situated 4 miles from the historic border town of Monmouth, in the picturesque Monnow Valley. Monmouth, the birthplace of Henry V and Charles Rolls, is in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty known as the Wye Valley. Close by is the beautiful Royal Forest of Dean. The Cathedral City of Hereford, on the River Wye, home of the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library(www.herefordcathedral.org/visit-us/mappa-mundi-1), is about 16 miles to the North and Ross-on-Wye, the birthplace of English Tourism, is some 10 miles distance. The Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons National Park are within easy reach for the enthusiastic walker, with Brecon and its Cathedral close by, less than an hours’ drive away. The Glamorgan Heritage Coast, Cardiff Bay, Swansea and the Gower Peninsular are also within easy reach for glorious days out. There is some beautiful local countryside surrounding this barn with lots of footpaths and many walks. En-route there are some lovely country pubs and fine restaurants, eg The Bell at Skenfrith (award winning).
