About Mrs Suzanne Davy
2006 was actually when I bought the plot of land where Casa Convento now sits and it was completed in 2008. I have always worked in design of some sort, either in interiors, or as a stylist, writer and now, photographer, so it was a dream to design and build my own house, which we also spend time in whenever we can secure a week or two! My husband, a retired helicopter pilot, and I live in the beautiful, historic city of Bath.
Mrs Suzanne Davy purchased this House in 2006
Why Mrs Suzanne Davy chose Canillas de Aceituno
The Axarquia area is full of fabulous places to visit and has a great diversity of interest for all. We love the village of Canillas de Aceituno and its people, who are very friendly and greet everyone in passing. From here, it is easy to visit lots of lovely 'pueblos blancos', many of which you can spot from our panoramic dining terrace or sunbathing roof terrace. Behind is the unspoilt wilderness of the National Park, with access for walks right behind the house. The construction of our own panoramic experience of El Caminito del Rey is under way, linking Canillas de Aceituno with Sedella. We are only 25 minutes panoramic drive from the seaside and many beaches to explore. We have several favourite beach 'clubs' at the western end of Torre del Mar; Bahia de Tanit and Berebere . There are also stunning beaches eastward beyond Nerja. Marbella, Puerto Banus etc are within reaching distance for a ritzy day out. Cordoba and Granada are within easy driving distance, but best to spend a night or two to appreciate their wonders.
What makes this House unique
I am always so pleased to have the wonderful response from my guests at Casa Convento who tell me it is utterly blissful, comfortable and way above the normal standard for a rental property. Everyone falls in love with the stunning views and sunsets, plus the real Spain of Canillas de Aceituno. Words such as 'Stunning', 'Heavenly', 'Superb', 'Paradise' are used in my Guest book and reviews.

A real taste of Spain
This is a very well-equipped house, with homely, tasteful furnishings and a very well-equipped kitchen. The bedrooms and beds are large and comfortable. All of rooms are spaciouse with the highlight being the spectacular, panoramic view from the terraces on the upper floor. There are two flights of stairs to reach the upper lounge/dining area but this was not a challenge; the small goods lift is a wonderful help in transporting shopping from the ground floor to the kitchen on the second floor. Canillas de Aceituno is a peaceful, quiet and friendly village. There is a choice of places to eat and drink, and the welcome is always warm and friendly. The owner takes pride and care in maintaining her home and this adds to the overall experience. It is refreshing to have such prompt, clear and helpful contact both before arrival and during the stay. I recommend Casa Convento for anyone looking for an escape from the busy, noisy life of the big city.
Thank you for your fabulous review. It's always a great pleasure to host guests who enjoy the sense of place, comfort and spectacular setting that Canillas and Casa Convento offers.
A wonderful house, with good location, great views - perfect for our needs.
We loved the house. It was just what we needed, well appointed/equipped and perfect for two couples. Pretty much everything you needed in the kitchen for preparing meals, but also good restaurants in the village. The pool, although small, was great for cooling off and sunbathing on the top roof terrace with great views was lovely. The location is charming and with the national park on your doorstep there are some great walks / activities to be enjoyed. Suzanne was very helpful at all times and very quick to respond to a couple of queries we had. We had a wonderful time and would happily return.
Thank you so much for your lovely review; it's always a thrill for us when our guests fully engage with everything that this beautiful region and village has to offer.
I do hope you, family or friends might return some day!
Awesome Scenery, Terrific Villa
We loved our 6 days at Casa Convento. Suzanne, the owner, was responsive to our email queries and appointed the villa with carefully chosen pieces. The village of Canillas de Aceituno itself was charming with many side streets that encouraged exploration. Behind the villa were some spectacular hiking trails of moderate difficulty. We would highly recommend Casa Convento. The only reason we gave it four stars rather than five, was the extra cost we would have been charged for heat during cold weather -- the Casa had in-floor electric heating. We felt that should have been part of the rental cost. Otherwise, an excellent choice.
Thank you for your kind review. Just to address the heating question; we did have a discussion prior to your arrival when I said the weather was dubious and I offered you the option and told you the cost, explaining that electric underfloor heating is very expensive and I cannot give this for free or it would make my rental cost too expensive and not fair when folk do not require the heating or air-con at all The cost is calculated without profit via a dedicated meter. This is far fairer and leaves the responsibility and choice with our guests. Sorry it did not meet with your approval but you had said you didn't want the heating anyway, being hardy Canadians!?
Outstanding in every way...
Everything leading up to our stay including arrival info was made so much easier by Suzanne the owner, including the recommendation for car hire which turned out to be seamless. The property is beautifully furnished and decorated with stunning vistas from the terraces. The attention to detail is exceptional, even the little things like plenty of loo roll, dishwasher tablets etc are thought of - so you don't have to. The pool is an ideal size in its own private haven for sunbathing and cooling off. The village is in a time warp, many local kids don't ride bikes but horses! Lots of little bars with friendly locals and a few ex-pats, and good authentic restaurants. If you are lucky as we were then catch a local wedding or other event that pulls out the whole village. Great beaches nearby too. All in all the whole experience was a pleasure from the moment we booked, highly recommended...
Thank you so much for the lovely review. It never ceases to lift the spirits and our love of Canillas when our guests are full of the joy of positive discovery. Suzanne
The on-line photographs do not do this magnificent property justice!! We had the most amazing time with all the interior facilities you could ever ask for!!
Thank you for your positive feedback!
Another 5 star stay at this beautiful property
This is the second time we have stayed at this property and it didn't disappoint. Set over three levels it is extremely spacious and very well equipped. It really is a home from home with comfortable furnishings and lots of added extras like shower cream by the poolside. My favourite area in the house had to be the balcony, where I could comfortably sit for hours watching the comings and goings of the village below. I consider the village and Suzanne's beautiful property the perfect escape from the stresses of a busy life. I hope to return soon!
It was a pleasure to welcome you back and thank you for your lovely review. It's always a pleasure to hear guests' favourite perspectives of Casa Convento. All best, Suzanne
20 mins from the buzz of Costa del Sol and Torre del Mar brings you to the peace and spectacular scenery of traditional Spain where pueblos blancos cling to the hillsides and the sights and scenery enchant year-round. The Axarquia region has a reputation for the best climate in Europe and, steeped in history, it has much to offer for exploration and sense-of-place, from the plethora of white-washed villages to the Nerja Caves' magical formations. Malaga has a beautiful historical centre - and excellent shopping - while Antequera and Granada are within exploring range. The beautiful drive from the coast brings you to Sierra Tejeda National Park and Canillas, where potted flowers decorate the side-streets, mules and goats studiously ignore humanity and the village ladies practice their flamenco in the evening cool. Walk, paint, photograph, picnic, listen to cicadas, taste local wine, sample village specialities – or simply enjoy the tranquillity and comfort of Casa Convento.
