Not long enough!
Lovely 4 day stay. Property has loads of character, very comfortable and well equipped. Beautifully decorated. Effat was very helpfully. St Aignan was delightful - Top tip book restaurants as they were busy. Easy access to beautiful Chateaux. Highly recommend.
Great fit for a family of 5
We had a great time staying and checking out the town, chateaus and cathedrals in the surrounding area. The property was amazing, plenty of room for the 5 of us.
We had a hiccup with VRBO getting all the check in info to us, but once we were in communication with Trent out was a breeze. We'd stay again.
Very cosy, well located and enjoyable all around.
Muy limpio. Impecable
The location was beautiful, the house was in the perfect location and was wonderful. We loved the house and Sainte Aignan! I highly recommend this location and the house.
Where to begin to review this fabulous home? I believe we contacted the owner more than 7 months before our trip. We were looking for a charming, comfortable home in which to stay for two months while we "pretended to be French." La Boulangerie met all of our criteria: great location from which to visit all of the Loire Valley; in a town where we could walk everywhere and hopefully make friends and feel a part of the community; comfortably furnished so we could really "live" there and completely furnished with modern conveniences. This property suited us perfectly. I emailed Rachael and she responded very quickly. We discussed dates and I made our reservation. I made a payment to guarantee the reservation and then had to wait many long months to actually stay there. Rachael and I emailed back and forth many times and even formed a bit of a friendship!
The day finally arrived and we flew to Paris and then easily took the train to Saint Aignan. We then took a taxi to LaBoulangerie and was met by the House Manager, Nathalie. Nathalie is a true gem and saw to our needs and answered any and all questions that we had. She even recommended her favorite wine bar which we managed to visit most every night while we were there.
The house is gorgeous and charming and unique. It was very clean and looks exactly like the photos except that since we were there, new floors were installed in the kitchen and a shower door was installed on the shower on the 3rd floor. The kitchen has everything you could ever want to cook, make coffee, or just sit around the table enjoying people's company. It even has a dishwasher which was very nice. There were plenty of plates, cups, wine glasses, pots and pans -- everything! Very well stocked.
The location of La Boulangerie is excellent. Directly on the main square with good restaurants nearby and also a supermarket and an incredible cheese store within a very short walking distance. On Saturday mornings there is a fresh market on the square and it is literally just outside the door. We took advantage of it and shopped there every Saturday.
We did not want to rent a car while we were there and we utilized the train or bicycles for our travel. (Nathalie kindly rented us bicycles!). Generally we walked to the train station -- about a mile and 1/2 walk. You can then take the train to see all of the chateaus in the region and one is more beautiful than the next. Not to be missed!!!
Saint-Aignan sur Cher built on the River Cher is a medieval town and has many fascinating buildings and cobbled streets. There are shops, bakeries, bars, restaurants, and the 12th century romanesque collegiate church. In the heart of the Touraine wine area there are hundreds of vineyards. The local swimming pool is 5 mins walk and there the world-famous ZooParc de Beauval is only 5 minutes drive. Centrally placed to visit all the Chateaux of the Loire: Chenonceau, Chambord, Amboise (home of Leonardo da Vinci ), Chaumont (which has an internationally famous garden festival ), Villandry and its renowned decorative vegetable gardens, Azay-le-Rideau, Valencay and many more. During the year there are music and other festivals including Son et Lumieres. You can enjoy walking, horse riding, canoeing, cycling and fishing .
Saint-Aignan is only 2.5 hours drive from Paris, 4 hours drive from Caen or Le Havre, and 5 hours from St Malo or Cherbourg. Saint-Aignan's train station is only 3 km's away and the closest airport is in Tours only 50km's away. Plane and train connections are easy with Ryanair flying direct to Tours and Eurostar/TGV taking you directly to St Pierre-des-Corps (Tours).
