About Nuno Caetano
I'm a professional graphic designer with a special passion for traveling, motorsports and water sports. My wife Joana is a fashion designer. We both welcome you to our family house.
Why Nuno Caetano chose Municipality of Mértola
Horta de Vale de Camelos was my great grand parents farm, at the heart of Portuguese agricultural region - Baixo Alentejo. It was an agricultural center, and I enjoyed it very much when I was a kid, helping taking care of dairy animals and performing small duties around. My parents and I turned it into a vacations house for the family. We bring lots of friends to the place, every time an opportunity occurs. Friends always say that they feel they're in a special place, each time they come around. In fact, the property has an unique environment and it's the perfect place to relax, recharge and get in peace with nature and mankind.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Horta de Vale de Camelos has a unique location, with a wonderful view over the golden planes of wheat. It's built around a garden and swimming pool, offering total privacy. It has enormous potencial for those who seek for some days of open air vacations, or even for those who just want to spend some time emerged in the quietness of the countryside.

ideal getaway villa.
Beautiful old property in peaceful countryside. Only negative is that in August you might get insect bites.
Hello Bernard, thank you for your review and for being such a great guest. We have several ways to avoid mosquito bites, I'm sorry for not letting you know about it. We wish you and your family a great Summer!
Best wishes

Relaxing rural retreat
Exactly as listed, a lovely home in the middle of nowhere! Rolling hills and golden plains.

Perfect tranquil place for the ultimate relaxing holiday
This was our first trip to the Alentejo, and thanks to Nuno and Joana and the beauty of the countryside around Vale de Camelos, we had the most relaxing time. Every bit as lovely as the picture suggest, this is a welcoming, well equipped home with a gorgeous outdoor space and pool. We used the barbecue area most days, and love relaxing by the pool listening to the quiet and occasional distant cow bells and sheep.
There are so many gems to discover not too far away by car, and our hosts were amazing at recommending where we should try.
Our favourite restaurant (Herdade des Grous) was less than 20 mins away, and you can easily reach the beaches near Porto Cova or Tavira.
Both are well worth the visit.
Once more, huge thanks to Nuno and Joana who were amazing hosts and we hope to return in the future.

Thank you Simon, for being the best guest one can desire. It was a real pleasure having your family at our property.
We are also pleased to know that you had the time to visit the region, to know more about Portugal and to become a true Alentejo fan.
We hope to have you back in the near future, meanwhile have a great Summer!

Tuscany meets Greece and Alentejo in a precious little gem.
Charmy, cozy and delightful. If you value rest, privacy, countryside and you are not willing to give up of all the comfort and in-house amenities, look no further.
I am talking about an updated tradicional roomy house, with a very well-thought indoor layout and superb outdoors. You will find a choice of patios, sitting areas and tables, shade and sunny spots that assure that you will find the perfect spot to enjoy the beautiful hills of Alentejo landscape and relax, chat with friends and family or play sports in complete privacy.
It is hard to find such rare combination.

Noisy outdoor's AC unit.
You may find that the odd traditional lock will give you some fight. But who needs locks in Alentejo anyway?
We're glad you and your family has enjoyed the most out of our property and the surroundings. Alentejo does have a special atmosphere and that's a treasurous atmosphere and everyone should feel it at least once in a lifetime.
Our AC unit os old, soon we'll be reviewing all our electrical instalation, all rooms will have new AC units shortly.
Other improvements will be added in the near future.
See you soon!

To be continued...
We liked very much of Alentejo... the wonderful night sky, the landscapes, the food and special wine (@Adega Velha, Mourão) and the peace (stop your thoughts for a while and listen to the hot wind)...! And we also liked Horta, the people (and "violet"): the welcome of the family, inhabitants availability, sympathy and humility in the treatment; the swimming pool and the shade of the garden, the beds and pillow comfort, bicycle ridings in sunrise and sunset, the dinners and snacks next to the barbecue. Anyway, "good and recommended, as well as the fish @"Frango à Guia" in Beja. We will come back, soon.
We are always, always focused on the well-being and comfort of our guests.
We're glad to have delivered this to you and your group of friends, Marta. Specially because, by your kind words, we feel that you have absorbed the best of it, specially the unique vibes of our countryside.
Hope to see you all soon!

Amazing week at Vale de Camelos!
We stayed for a week at Vale the Camelos and had a really good time. This is a beautiful, old country house with spacious and well-decorated rooms (we were four couples + three children). The garden is large (great for barbecues) and has a number of trees that provide shadows in the hot days. The swimming pool is larger than we could judge by the pictures. The owner, as well as the employees who clean and maintain the property, were very friendly and always available to answer our requests. Highly recommended for a holiday period!
Dear Rita,
Thank you for your kind words, it was pleasure to have you at our house. We hope to see you and all your friends back in Vale de Camelos.
Have a great summer!

Location
A must in the area is a visit to the town of Mértola, it's medieval castle, it's river front and the river beach of Mina de S. Domingos. Also remember to visit the natural roughness of Pulo do Lobo waterfall, the Archaeological Site and the Museum. The World Heritage distinction also speaks for itself. Is has some very nice restaurants where you can savor top notch traditional cooking.
The city of Beja, district capital, is also a nice place to visit, namely it's medieval castle and the Queen D. Leonor museum. Overall, it's a very nice town to visit, including great restaurants, pubs and public gardens.
The city of Serpa is also a must, it also has a medieval castle and a very picturesque architecture.
The Roman Ruins of St. Cucufate it's a very popular venue amongst visitors of Alentejo.
If you're lucky, in all of this places you may have a close encounter with a chorus on "Cante Alentejano" (Alentejo Song), a genuine musical expression, unique in the world, recognised as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
