Pictures cropped to hide problems.
There were exposed wires that should be boxed, outlet w/out a cover, but lamp plugged in. No windows for fire escape. Couch was advertised as a bed??? Manager was very cooperative.
Property was Misrepresented It was supposed to have two bedrooms and only had 1.
This room was a semi-remodeled basement. There was no finished ceiling. Electrical junction boxes had no covers in places. They must have remodeled it without a permit as there was no egress window in the bedroom. This is particularly important if there were to be a fire in the front of the unit. It appeared that the electrical outlets were severely overloaded as there was a note on the bathroom receptacle warning of overload. The washer and dryer up front had no separate circuits, and were plugged in around in another room. One electrical outlet had a six-plex adapter plugged into it and had a microwave oven, a toaster oven, a hot plate, the refrigerator, a coffee maker into it. This is grossly overloaded ( I am an electrical contractor). There was no way to regulate the heat. Our stay was in the summer and the furnace ran almost continuously through the night to cool the upstairs. It was very cold. They did however have an electric heater down there that had an extension cord from upstairs. Another electrical code violation. The unit also smelled of cat urine. After staying there I asked for a refund for the second as my son had to sleep on the couch, and they did not refund my money after offering it the day before. I do not know how people can turn a basement into a VRBO without having their places safe for their customers. I would not recommend this property to anyone.
We had a relaxing stay and found the apartment to be clean and spacious. First of all, this is not a hotel and those who expect or desire the uniformity of a hotel should likely just go ahead and pay twice as much for that experience. For all others, I strongly recommend giving this apartment a look. The kitchen was great, the bed was comfortable and the shower was above average. It is located in a pretty nice neighborhood and was convenient for our purposes, so I have to say it was an excellent value.
Cute apt for a week
Great little apartment..centrally located...but be prepared..this is a basement apartment with NO windows and NO security peep hole on the door. Also no secondary bolt lock. The ac for the house is kept at 73°. With no windows, and being a basement, it gets colder.
Dress appropriately. Bring your own fry pan. Being prepared, I would stay here again....
The picture is the TOP of the house NOT the apartment, which is in the basement. VERY cool neighborhood, but no windows in unit, smelled heavily of Febreze and no hot water in the kitchen. It was ok for a place to sleep, not a place to hang out though. Bed was comfy but could hear lots of barking from the dogs and noises from the people upstairs, no drop ceiling only rafters. Kind of minimal but ok with lowered expectations.
this place is bad news
In a nutshell, this is the WORST property we've ever rented. I have no idea how it got 5 stars from other guests, but I'm writing this to save someone else from the experience my husband and I had in this basement apartment with block cement walls and no windows. If it hadn't been 9:30 when we got there, after a very long day of sight-seeing, we would never have stayed. The bedding looked clean and the bathroom was newly remodeled, so we spent the night. Here are just some of the issues we faced: I tripped and fell off a tile on the front of a bathroom step that was not cemented on, only held in place with grout / my husband is a journeyman electrician and he found code violations in every room but the bathroom / the bedroom and livingroom had NO ceilings and dirty cement floors / the ceiling fixtures had fluorescent tubes and no covers / many of the tubes were burned out / there was an open electrical box on the bedroom ceiling with exposed wires / I found a lot of long hairs and a headband under a sofa cushion, which I flipped because it was dirty and torn / we found a set of keys in the bed, under the bottom sheet / there was no air conditioning and the portable washer and dryer had no instructions / the dryer was vented into the kitchen / there was a red liquid dripped on the freezer floor and onto the ice cube tray / the bathroom had this sign on the wall: "STOP! Please turn off any appliances and overhead lights in bedroom prior to using your hair dryer, curling iron, etc. The breaker sometimes trips." We looked for a breaker box but couldn't find it, so if it had tripped, we'd have been in the dark, which is how we felt during our whole stay.
I could go on, but you get the picture. Upon arrival, we were asked to text or call the owner, and I did both but she didn't answer, so we had no communication with her during our stay. After we got home, Vrbo got us in touch by phone and when I started to tell the owner about my fall in the bathroom, she constantly cut me off, yelled at me and hung up! We didn't get reimbursed for any part of this stay, not even the cleaning fee, although the apt. was really dirty when we walked in the door. It was a horrible experience all the way around and I hope this place is removed from the Vrbo roster.
