We were delighted to return to Hale meow meow and were spoiled again...a uniquely charming and comfortable home tucked into the most lush tropical garden. Everything we need is handy. We love to use the barbeque outside for dinner and soaking in the outdoor tub after a day's adventure is so fabulous. The sunsets are outrageous and Linda is the absolute best. Mahalo!
We had a fabulous time enjoying Linda's wild and wonderful property. We loved the outdoor shower, meditation room and screened windows to let the breeze in. Our resident cat for the week was hard to say goodbye to. Loved listening to the birds and frogs & watching the geckos patrol the home. Kitchen was well stocked and fresh fruit brought up by Linda was an added treat, the covered bbq was perfect for cooking as well. Close to great snorkeling and lots of interesting local spots. Thank you Linda for making our first trip to Hawaii completely unique and memorable!
This property was the ultimate tropical vacation getaway. It was a secluded property that was packed with fruit trees, a beautiful garden and great amenities! The outdoor shower was a new and really enjoyable experience! Linda was a great host who continuously brought us fruits during our stay and was very friendly. Would definitely stay again
So glad we chose Linda's lovely retreat as our base for our 12 night stay on the Big Island. It was great to be able to retreat to the relaxation and beautiful surroundings of this magical place. Loved the bath house and the meditation space. No crowds and always a breeze through the screened windows. Enjoyed the birds and the beautiful plants. It was good to have space to share time with and without the other family members of our party of 4. The frogs at night were a bit much but the ear plugs helped with sleep in the comfortable beds. Kitchen was well equipped and the fresh fruit that Linda delivered from her garden every few days was such a treat. The ever present geckos were a delight as was the resident cat OB(Orange Boy). And Linda was there when we wanted advice on the best way to get to anywhere, etc.
This is a very special place to be enjoyed many times. And we certainly will stay here when we return. The traveller will be surrounded by nature, and will be less than 30 minutes from some of the best snorkelling in South Kona. Linda, the host is very kind and welcoming and goes beyond the pale to ensure your comfort.
Birds, geckos, frogs and fauna. Beautiful spot with a great ocean view. Host was super friendly, helpful and interested. We loved this little piece of paradise as our home away from home.
We had a great time at Linda's place, it was like staying in a rainforest. Linda has numerous fruit trees on her property and generously left fresh fruit for us during our stay. Her house is beautifully decorated in Hawaiian and Bali styles and is very cozy and welcoming. We had everything we needed to cook any meals in a very spacious kitchen, and there were a couple of very cute geckos in the house who helped out with any mosquitos. Linda showed us around her acreage and talked to us about the island and her property, she is a lovely person who cares deeply about all the creatures she shares her space with. We went to Hilo for a few days of our vacation, but our stay on the Kona side was better in part due to this little gem of a place.
We spent several days at Linda's place and couldn't have asked for anything better. The house has so many intricate details, everything you could possibly need and feels cozy. Linda is an amazing and generous host, we loved all the fruit.
This place was such a treat. It was like a hidden tree house with all the luxuries you need. The location is not near the busy town, so you really get a laid back experience. Linda was a great host and provided fresh fruit from her property almost every day. The house has windows, but most of them are just screens so you’re really immersed in all that nature has to offer. Just make sure to pack warm clothes to sleep in, as it does get colder at night. The closest beach is about 5 minutes away and mostly secluded. You will quickly learn to make friends with all the geckos, they are your friend not your enemy. Definitely make sure to have some sort of SUV because the drive up to the house is intense. Overall we had an amazing experience at Hale Meow Meow and will make sure to come back next time we’re on The Big Island !
Yes, my FAVORITE!! This place truly is an oasis. It is perfectly located directly off the main road but tucked away down a beautifully bumpy and overgrown driveway, the moment you get there you will be in aw. The vegetation, the house, the outdoor tub, the garden, fruit trees everywhere, color everywhere, the happiest place I have ever experienced! I couldnt find a single complaint about this place. I will never stay anywhere else on the big island!
This property was a great stay. Linda, the owner was marvelous to communicate withWe arrived strangers and we left friends. The Balinese style house was great. My upstairs room was unique and comfortable and a perfect hideaway. The gardens were lush and pretty. OB the Cat was a delightful greeter on our arrival. I would recommend this property to anyone as long as you're not afraid of geckos. They are so cute.
Nothing but praise for this wonderful island style cottage; Linda has provided EVERYTHING you could need and is such an attentive host. The kitchen is complete with everything you need and plenty of condiments and spices. Loved the comfortable bed and quality linen. We enjoyed the cottage overall and mature surrounding gardens. Linda pointed us to a good nearby beach to snorkel and swim. This is a unique place, decorated so tastefully with treasures from Bali and island produced art. Good privacy and discrete assistance and interaction with host Linda and her friendly cat, OB. You are in a tropical forest with ocean views, A real find, we would definitely come to stay again. The photos don't show how spacious the cottage is. NOTE: Pick up groceries at Costco or the supermarkets in Kona !! Not much to be had locally, but we did love the Mexican(Honduran) food at the nearest tiny grocery store, about 10 minutes away, really authentic, tasty and not expensive. Nice owners as well. Thank you Linda for providing just what we were looking for - away from the maddening crowd!
We spent four magical nights and enjoyed every minute, the house, the lovely gardens, the sunset views, and all the DVDs to watch in the evenings. Plus the host! She is a jeweller and made me an exquisite necklace during my stay. Will definitely return for more!
Quaint Accommodations Surrounded by Beautiful Gardens
Great place to stay to get a true Hawaiian experience. Linda was a great host, very helpful. The fresh fruit from Linda's gardens was delicious. Ask Linda for a tour of the garden if you get a chance. She takes great pride in it and loves to show people around.
I can’t say enough about our stay at Hale Meow Meow. Not only is it in a beautiful garden setting but also has a gorgeous view of the sunset over the ocean. Linda is an incredible host and made us feel extremely welcome. When I come back to the Big Isle, I will definitely be staying here.
Stayed here before. Linda is great. She is friendly, knowledgeable, and is the perfect host. The property is spectacular. Beautiful plants everywhere. A.true Hawaiian experience. We will be back.
Linda could not have been nicer. We received a warm and friendly greeting upon arrival. Once inside the most gorgeous arrangements of tropical flowers from the surrounding garden and fresh fruit were left for us to enjoy. Attentive without being obtrusive. A unique cottage with lots of individual spaces to spread out - each with its own separate entrance to the outside. Lovely Indonesian furnishings and artwork reflecting Linda’s travels around the world along with an evening serenade of frog song created the peaceful retreat we were seeking for our stay on Hawaii Island. Rustic in the sense that the tap water is not potable and must be filtered prior to use and a fair amount of mosquitoes present to contend with all the nightly rains during our stay late July-early Aug. Citronella candles and spray were provided. We adapted with mosquito nets for sleeping. Hale Meow Meow is an indoor/outdoor experience in a truly special and beautiful setting surrounded by lush and spectacular gardens.
I loved staying here! Beautiful cottage with plenty of space. Peaceful garden with fresh fruit daily. Very friendly host, Linda. She went above and beyond to accommodate our stay. Would recommend to anyone. Such a delightful stay. Will be back!

Need to love nature to stay here
First thing, the host of this property is very hospitable. She is on the same property as you and will answer any and all questions. Secondly, the property is very unique. If you are not interested in being part of nature then this place isn’t for you. The water is on a catchment system and you or Linda need to get filtered water from her place as needed. The property is beautiful but everything is constantly damp. There are also geckos all over the inside of the house (they won’t bother you) which took us by surprise. There is no washer or dryer in the house either, so keep that in mind if you are depending on those items. Also, there is no microwave which is unusual in today’s world. All in all, we will never forget this place! If this is the type of accommodation you are looking for, then this will be perfect for you. If you are looking for AC and other high end amenities, I’d suggest staying elsewhere. Finally, the property doesn’t have a paved driveway. It is grass and a high clearance vehicle isn’t necessary, but would have been helpful.
Linda is a very nice host.
When we arrived, some fruits from her garden were waiting for us.
The sunsets are beautiful also the garden!
We can recommend staying in Linda's house:)

My parents met and got married on Oahu in the mid 1940s. My mother was a pilot and mechanic at Hickam Field. They moved to Georgia and I grew up there. I bought this land with my sister and mother and moved to Hawaii. I have spent much of my life traveling the world and now my sister has moved and i stayed and i am a jewelry designer. I still travel to Asia a lot searching for treasures for my jewelry, and have started this vacation home and the farming. I love plants and animals so this life has been great.
Why they chose this property
When I first saw this property it was nothing but a thing called christmas berry but I knew it was where I should be. It was a long slow process turning it into what it is today, but worth every bit of it. Now, I just love being here.
