This was the most awesome place we have ever stayed. The location was wonderful and the house had everything we could possibly need and more. The property manager was great we did have manatees outside in the canal pretty much every morning. We caught more fish out of the canal then we did when we went fishing out on a boat! Loved how easy it was to paddle out in the Kayaks and how all that was included. If you are a fishing and fun family would definitely recommend this house. When we come back to the keys we will rent this house again and again. Super close to key west and all other islands since right in the middle. Couldn't have asked for a better stay. The only reason we rated a 4 for check in was because when we showed up to check in there were a bunch of workers sawing in the bathroom and replacing a pipe that was leaking. But other then that the lemon water was a nice touch since it was so hot. Will be back!!!
Great fishing and diving in Marathon
We had a fantastic stay at this house. The house is really great, kid and adult friendly. My daughter loved the pool, my husband loved that he could catch tarpon and snapper right off the dock. The rooms are very nice and comfortable. The canal is deep and enough dock space for 2, offshore boats. We went diving at a few reefs and the lighthouse, it was beautiful. We found lobster on the flats and the guys did great fishing. Theres a fish cleaning table and a bait freezer downstairs and they were very impressed with that.
Seriously this placs is ideal. You're 3 minutes from publix, less than 10 minutes to the boat ramp, on a good day you can make it to the lighthouse in 30min. The downstairs tiki bar is really great. The kids can swim and the adults can watch from the dock or bar. Loved the entire trip and will hopefully be back next year!
The canal was disgusting very dirty. We have been coming to the keys renting homes for 10 years. Normally stay in Key Colony, never seen a canal like this. Very shallow in low tide. Found a rusted refrigerator floating between my boat and dock, lodged between the two. My son and I had to remove it. Told the property manager seemed unconcerned and said no body on this street owns a refrigerator like that hope your insurance will cover the damage. I have a 2018 Sea Hunt 25’ was unable to get out most of the week my boat hit ground. I am an experienced boater actually have my Captains license so knowledge was not the issue. The channels were marked by small PVC pipes. The furniture dry rotted. Oh and the downstairs portion with pool and deck is off limits you have to walk out front up stairs to get to your home
A dirty urinal was on ground below steps beginning of neighborhood was questionable very sketchy neighborhood
Did not feel safe walking the dogs after dark
Oh my goodness Ignatios. I wish that even once during your stay you had mention any of this unhappiness. I believe when I talked with your wife she expressed that this was the best vacation ever......apparently there is a miscommunication somewhere.
The canals are a bit stirred up, it is true, as Monroe County has been working diligently to clean each and every canal since we were hit, 2 years ago by a Cat 4 Hurricane, Irma, that devastated the Florida Keys. You may have heard about us on the news! We have made a miraculous come back in such a short time. I believe they have completed the canal clean up, but the sediment on the bottom has been pretty stirred up, and so, a little murky still in some. We are so happy they have completed this very important step in our recovery. Thank you for your concern!
When I found the refrigerator on my dock, after you checked out, I gave you a call because, at the time I was unaware that it was a refrigerator and that you found it floating in the canal. I thought maybe it was something that belonged to you, for the boat, as it had no doors and looked like some kind of cooler. I was worried you had left it behind. When I called you to ask, you told me your story. I was concerned about the possible damage to your boat, and assured you that my neighbors don't throw their appliances in the canal, and asked if you had insurance, because I was not aware of any damage, as you had not called me to come and take a look.
We have a great neighborhood with 4 lovely vacation rental homes, and full time residents, both professionals, and retired professionals. There was no need for you to be afraid. And again, there is a renovation in progress at the entrance to our street, it sure is going to be beautiful when they are finished.
As for bringing your boat in and out of the canal, I am sorry that made you nervous. Captain Jay, who has a 34ft Stamas Center Console, comes in and out of this canal to pick up guests to take them fishing quite often, oh, and he used to live right next door to this vacation home. As a matter of fact the owners of that same home now have a brand new 30 ft Robalo. Captain Jay, being an experienced captain here in the Keys would have been happy to give you some pointers. I'm sure he would have explained that the pvc pipes in the water, throughout the Keys have been placed there for navigational assistance. He also could have helped you get your boat in and out of the canal, so that you didn't feel stuck. I believe he had a small Sea Hunt like yours before he upgraded to his 34' Stamas.
Ah, well, I guess the lesson learned here is.....if there are actual issues at your vacation home while you are here, we are happy to help. If, the first time we hear of it is after you are gone , and on a review, we can't help. I am going to rely on the enormous amount of great reviews we have had over the years to determine how we are doing in guest satisfaction. In fact, guests have had issues throughout the years, it is true, and it is expected. When they call we address those issues immediately.
You mention Key Colony, I have a few homes there, and yes, you are correct, those canals are wide and deep, easy in and out, and the perfect place for the novice boaters.
And remember, even though we look quite beautiful already, each year after Irma, we will not be so deep in the recovery process, all of the renovations will be completed, and the water quality in all canals will have improved, and returned to what they were pre Irma. Most understand this.
I certainly hope, if you get the chance to return to The Keys next year, that you find the vacation home, and canal that works best for you.
Perfect for family vacation
One of the best ever!
Michelle is amazing and the property was perfect!
This place was all you want and more than you need. Plenty of seating outside. The unit was upstairs and not an issue. The dock and canal are navigable but I will tell you at low tide, it can be as little as 2-3 ft. Fishing in canal was a miss only cause he way it’s situated the water was very dirty this time of year due to seaweed and such. None of these are complaints just things I learned while there and no one had any control over them. We loved this place and rented a boat from pier 68 and was nice to run out and fish and hit snorkel sites. Again awesome place and Michelle the property manager was on spot with answering and making sure we were good.
