Relaxation at the end of a long holiday
My wife and I had been travelling for many weeks in Europe and Canada and were looking for a relaxing period at the beach before returning to Australia. The apartment was as described and was ideal for our primarily self catering stay. The complex was well managed, staff were friendly and helpful, and use of the facilities was seamless. The beach was never crowded, very attractive and the water temperature was to die for.
The surrounding area was not upmarket but people very friendly and at no time was there any concerns re security. Google had heaps of info about local issues which were fascinating for us Aussies.
I have read reviews re the need for aircon however for us the breeze and overheads fans were perfect and all that was needed.
Our stay at the Hawaiian Princess was perfect.
PS you must have a car rental for this property.
It seemed to use that the owners had not been there for awhile. The sliding doors did not slide well. One of the screens would not slide at all. Although we were warned, not having AC in the front room was most uncomfortable. Some of the kitchen utensils were broken. Security was good. People were generally friendly. We did find a dead cockroach in the bathroom but was curious as to what had killed it.
Our apologies about the issue with the sliding door. There was a very simple solution - in fact it was just a loose screw that needed to be tightened. Cockroaches are unfortunately a part of living in the tropics - the building has regular pest control. It is no way a sign of neglect like this reviewer seems to be suggesting. We can assure any future guests that this is not at all a common occurrence. We do in fact stay in our home, and take care to maintain things. However, occasionally guests damage or break things and we are not made aware until it inconveniences the following guests. Our apologies for the broken utensils. They may have gone unnoticed by our housekeeper, but we will be sure to replace them.
My husband & I enjoyed our stay. This corner unit condo was clean, comfortable & had everything we could possibly need. The best part was the AMAZING oceanfront views!!! Even though it was hot when we visited (89* - 90*), the condo was comfortable considering all the screened doors and fans providing a cooling cross breeze. We only used the air conditioner in the bedroom once for a few hours. We found the beach to be very clean & often times we saw very few people there. We felt we had the beach to ourselves. The staff at the Hawaiian Princess were very friendly and helpful. The location was perfect for us since we wanted quiet & relaxation. The sights we wanted to visit were a reasonable driving distance. We will miss having our morning coffee & watching the sunsets on the lanai. Thank you Gail & Ed for sharing your comfortable condo with us! :-)
You are both so very welcome! We are so glad you enjoyed, thank you for staying and appreciating the beauty:) Gail and Ed
Beautiful apartment in a beautiful place
The apartment is excellent in all respects. A well stocked kitchen, a great bedroom suite, and everything you could possibly need. There are windows all around, and you really feel surrounded by the beauty of the place.
As for location, the beach is wonderful, and the sound of the waves off of your balcony creates a great, relaxing feel to the moments sitting on the lanai.
Ed is a great host. He is very responsive, and made sure that everything was ready to go when we arrived. A great person to work with.
Beautiful ocean front, but miserably hot & humid inside condo
We were looking forward to this trip. Ashlee who maintains this property was in good communication and met us upfront.
The first thing we noticed was the Condo was super hot & humid. We contacted Ashlee and she said the A/C unit in the bedroom will cool the whole place down. It doesn’t; it barely cools the room down; There is no front A/C unit; it was disabled. That’s ok if the place was cool but it’s not. We contacted Ashlee and she was going to contact the owners but never heard back. After 2 days of misery for my kids in the front room, we spent $500 on a portable a/c unit. 3 of the portable fans are covered with dust & non functioning. Both ceiling fans are old & have loose blades.
If they are trying to save money, this is not the way to do it. We had to run the A/c unit and portable A/C all day & night. It only cooled down enough on the day when it was cloudy.
Everything in this place is dated back to the 80’s. The stove doesn’t function right; one burner doesn’t work.
Mattress in Master bedroom needs to be tossed and replaced. It sinks in very low; it’s had better days. The air mattress in the front room leaks & needs to be pumped multiple times during the night or you’re laying on the metal parts.
Screen door is filthy & falling apart; bugs can fly right in. The slider door is a workout. You must use both hands to open it; needs adjusting and lubrication.
The lighting is also very dated. My friends had a timeshare condo at the same time on the 15th floor and it was night & day from ours. Everything they had was updated.; granite counters, working stoves, just immaculate. Their A/C worked on both rooms!
If I were the owners, I would seriously invest back into the property.
The oceans views are absolutely beautiful and has a secluded beach. We love hanging out with some of the locals and eating their food. This is real Hawaii. We didn’t want to stay in a crowded resort by Waikiki beach. The lanai was cool at night as wells as the waves. The place just needs to be totally fixed and updated; especially the A/C units!
The First correction to be made in response to this reviewer is that she, in fact, DID HEAR BACK FROM US after an initial complaint that it was too hot. Despite our Rental Agreement clearly stating that there is AC in the bedroom only, we acknowledged the complaint, offered to compensate for the purchase of the portable, and inquired as to whether all else was well.
It is disheartening to see our sincere efforts to satisfy this guest being dismissed.
Perhaps had she mentioned many of her concerns we might have been able to address them. For example, one of the stove elements had simply been misaligned, and is now in perfect working order. The fan blades are not loose. They have been manufactured with rubber in between the tightening points and therefore may appear loose to someone who is worried.
The mattress in the bedroom is a vera wang "plush" latex mattress. There will always be preferences in these matters.
We rely on guests' feedback. We are always open to hearing about things that need attention. But it seems that this reviewer was really on an inaccurate roll! We do not cut corners or try to save money at our guest's expense. This is our home.
We will continue to rent with Aloha spirit, and do all that we can to ensure a positive experience like the majority of our guests have reported.
In the meantime we will replace the screen door and have our housekeeper pay more attention to the dust that accumulates on the standing fans.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and hopefully incorporating it into the bigger picture of things :)
Sincerely Jane and ED
Beautiful and Right on the Beach
Staying here was wonderful and peaceful. I found the local neighborhood and shopping center safe and the people nice. This condo is in a very different location than most vacation spots on Oahu. It is right on the beach in a normal neighborhood not surrounded by our fellow visitors. The only drawback (or not) Is that it is quite a ways from everything else. To really enjoy this spot spend at least half your time right here at the beach. The views and sunsets are some of the best on the island. It is very quiet and the unit has everything you need for a comfortable stay.
A scenic 15-20 minute drive up the coast is the starting point to the stunning Ka'ena point Seashore Hike and Albatross Sanctuary. It is at the very end of the road @ "Yokahama Beach" . There are undeveloped beaches all along the way of this drive. Famous "Makaha Beach" (with lifeguards) is a nice walk away through a quiet neighborhood (or 2 minute drive down the highway) - you can watch surfers there any day, and there are also sometimes surf competitions going on. You can walk to the very nearby "HALE-NALU" Rental shop to rent a bike or organize ocean/water sports like Snorkeling, Diving, Boating and DeepSea Fishing. There are a variety of restaurants just down the road (Authentic Hawaiian drive ins, cafe's, chinese, authentic mexican, italian), and 2 close-by supermarkets ("Tamura" is a 5-8 minute drive and even closer is Waianea Supermarket). Ko'olina Resort in Kapolei is a 20 minute drive from the condo - There is A water park for the keiki [kids] there as well as the popular Paradise Cove Luau-the best luau on Oahu for the whole family. For bargain hunters there is Up scale outlet shopping in the large open "WAIKELE Hi-END outlets Mall" approx a 30 minute ride from the HP on the H1 freeway. The Makaha championship golf course and resort on Makaha Valley Rd is a 5 minute drive from the condo, and fine dining right there on the 'east-course' [might be closed for renos first check]. There's a public golf course in Ko'olina as well - this is where the Disney resort is. Many reviewers wrote how much they enjoyed the location: "Country / REAL Hawaii'. So If you feel you might be ready to book or have any questions, please email me [owner Gail] with dates, and # of guests via the provided link to 'Contact owner' . Thank You for your interest in our slice of paradise:)
