Beautiful view, disappointing house
My family reserved this home for the labor day weekend. We paid a lot per night plus another several hundred dollar surcharge for the holiday weekend. This was a very disappointing stay. The location is wonderful. However, the house is in severe disrepair and should not be commanding those rates.
The grill's ignition switch was ripped off. You needed to light the grill with a match.
The stove top needed to also be lit with a match and had very unsafe gas bursts when lit. The inside of the stove seemed to be completely unable to be lit at all.
The house only had one fire alarm and it is completely dusty and did not have a battery that worked.
We we are great cooks and arrived with all fresh fish and many dishes prepped that really could not be made.
The rug is stained in multiple places.
The sliding doors have vertical blinds that have about half the pieces missing on both the front and the back slider.
Majority of the windows have seals that are popped and they are cloudy, one actually has rust staining part of the window.
The deck is so splintered that you cannot walk on it without shoes.
The table on the deck in the pictures is not there.
They said the house came with beach chairs, it came with two beach chairs and then two broken rust ones cast to the side.
Some of the walls are half painted and have patches of spackel on them.
The bathroom shower drips constantly. The shower control in broken and you need to turn it off and on by a switch at the back of the shower head. My kids can't reach that.
The bathroom vanity has a place for four bulbs. One was in and working, one was missing, and two were dead bulbs.
The second child's bed is a top bunk which is quite high and does not have a bar to keep kids from rolling out. As a result my 15 yr old daughter ended up sleeping on two love seats pushed together.
The kitchen tile floor is cracked and very old. The spatulas and utensils are kept in a empty old used cleaning wipes container.
They left someone else's old towels hanging on the clothes line outside.
When we went to strip the beds to leave their was a pair of someone else's underwear in the sheets of the master bed!
I really hate to complain. I have contacted the property manager to ask for a partial refund. I have been awaiting a responds for a few weeks. I was really surprised by the condition of the house since the past reviews have been so good.
What we enjoyed most about this home was the location. It is just mere steps from the water's edge. At all times we were aware of the birds, the waves, the changing weather...Just lovely. The house is set back from the road in the middle of a natural oasis; we felt hidden away. Terry and her husband made us feel very welcome and cared for, addressing any questions or issues immediately.
We wanted to stay right on the beach. Perfect rental for achieving that goal. Plenty of deck space for meals outside, grilling with gas grill, and relaxing. Property has beach chairs, though we had brought our own. Close to wineries and dining options. King Kullen supermarket to stock up on supplies seemed a better option than IGA. Open the windows and doors for an excellent off-shore breeze to cool the cottage, when locked up the temps inside hit 90 in the heat wave we had. Loved the back porch room. If you are a wine fan, note they have wines glasses but no flutes for sparkling. Kitchen well stocked for plates/utensils. See ya next year!?
Southold Soundfront is a darling, light, bright beach cottage, and we could not have been happier with our choice. There are plenty of things to do and see nearby (car is probably helpful) but honestly had we done nothing but relax here, We still would have been content. We fished right off the shore and caught some Porghy and Weakfish (Very nice people at WEGO fishing bait and tackle will give you a sheet with sizes and fish that are in season, etc.). We so enjoyed grilling and eating on the patio. Sunsets were breathtaking. Terry was wonderful and very helpful. Now that our son is attending college in New York, we may make this an annual tradition!
My husband and I recently had a very pleasant stay in this cottage. It is not large or fancy, but was clean and in a lovely setting. The expansive beach right out the front door is hard to beat, and it was almost always empty except for seagulls. The sunsets were truly spectacular. Terry, the property manager, was very responsive and made sure we had everything we needed. A good pick for a small family.
Great end of Summer Vacation
Our family enjoyed this home and location so much. Its setting can not be beat and the house is lovely. We will come back next year.
Wineries, farms, pumpkin picking, best tranquil beach. Wonderful restaurants, historic sites, and more...
