About Nathan McGowan Owner / Manager
My wife and I are the proud parents of the most precious gift from God, our son Nolan. We love to travel when our schedules allow. Sharon is a dental hygienist and I work as an engineer. We both grew up in Augusta, GA and love the outdoors!
Nathan McGowan Owner / Manager purchased this House in 2017
Why Nathan McGowan Owner / Manager chose Sunset
My life-long dream has always been to own a cabin in the mountains. I literally searched for years, and never could find a place that "checked all of the boxes"...until I found The Shamrock House. We fell in love with the charm and history of the property, and look forward to creating memories at this wonderful place. We are forever indebted to the previous owner, who renovated the buildings and grounds to bring the property back to its former glory, and now you have an opportunity to enjoy the results.
What makes this House unique
It is truly unique. The grounds cover 10 acres bordered by Rocky Bottom Creek and the Jocassee Gorges Heritage Preserve. There are extensive stone walls and walks laid down in the 1920's and many specimen sized trees. Many different wild flowers can be seen throughout out the growing season including rare Oconee Bells and Trillium's. The main cabin is constructed of cedar logs with American Chestnut paneling and floors. The extra large porch of the main cabin has hand made tables, chairs and swings by local artisan Bob McCall. The Trout Stream House has great views of the Bear Meadow and Rocky Bottom Creek. Locals tell tales of Nancy the Ghost who makes herself known from time to time in the main cabin (seems to be only when the adults have had a drink or two!). Maybe yes, maybe no. And, President Lyndon Johnson liked the place well enough to spend some time at The Shamrock House himself. The location is such that one can be on the Foothills Trail in less than five minutes and at Lake Keowee or Jocassee in 30 minutes, and also Brevard or Pickens in about the same time.

Back in time
Need better directions to where take trash, should make it clear that only one cottage had washer dryer and internet only 2 have tv
Need space heater in bathroom downstairs in main cabin
Instructions and directions for trash removal are included in the Welcome Letter received by all guests prior to arrival. A large washer / dryer set is always available for guests. This guest asked for access to our cleaning crew's additional set the morning after arrival. We are not a laundry mat. All three cabins have tv's (two have satellite, the third large screen TV is for movies and kids' gaming). Main heater vent for the cabin is at the bathroom door.
Wonderful historic property
My family and I just spent a wonderful weekend in The Shamrock House. Beautiful and rustic. Lots of room to walk and roam. The only reason I gave 4 stars on location was the road it was on could sometimes be a little noisy. Certainly not the owners’ fault! If you’re looking for luxury, this isn’t for you. But if you’re looking for cozy, homey, and charm, The Shamrock House is for you!!
Perfect for our wedding
The property was absolutely perfect for us! There are so many little details that make this place interesting we spent hours just checking out all the antiques and history. Great price for what you get couldn't have asked for anything more for our wedding! All our guests loved it.
Great stay at the Shamrock Cabins
We spent 3 days there for a family reunion and utilized all of the homes there. They were as described on VRBO remote and rustic but quite beautiful. We would definitely go back.
Great location!
Our family had a great stay at the Shamrock House. There’s so much to do in the area!
Wonderful place for a family vacation!
Our family stayed a week at Shamrock House with ages 8 months to 80 years old enjoying each minute. The accommodations reflect the age and location of the property but included every modern convenience necessary. We were able to cook for over 20 people with no problems. The beds were comfortable and there was space for everyone to spread out. The property is amazing! The children loved playing in the steam and fields. The adults put up hammocks and relaxed. There is great stream and lake fishing nearby along with many other forms of recreation. The 3 houses are on a hill with the largest being at the top. We recommend having the least mobile stay at the top house and planning meals and other group activities up there. The porch was pleasant even during hot July weather.
