About this property

Relax, enjoy the view, get away from it all at Cedar Lake, Nashua, IA!

Nashua Lake House provides a great get away opportunity in small town northeast Iowa. We are open year-round.

If you enjoy great views of the water while enjoying your morning coffee or perhaps a soothing evening glass of wine by the campfire, consider this three bedroom one bath home located in Nashua, Iowa on the shore of Cedar Lake. This listing is for the bottom floor duplex unit in a large two story house.

Outdoors, a 45 x 32 foot patio block patio with ample seating and dining areas awaits you and offers one of the best views available on the lake. Watch the water come to life in the morning, the activity on the water during the day or the calmness of the evening by the fire. Adjacent to the patio (and attached to the lake side of the garage) is a 20 foot deep covered porch. Equipped with four ceiling fans, table and chairs for six and other wicker seating, this is a great place to get out of the sun and watch the world go by on the water, read a book, play a game of Scrabble, or take a nap.

Inside, you will find three bedrooms equipped with a king and two queen beds (each made up and ready for your arrival), a jetted tub with a removable flexible shower head (linens provided), two 32' flatscreen SMART tvs, a fully equipped kitchen including dishwasher, beautiful hardwood floors and higher speed wireless internet.

The property includes a smaller, cement dock and guests have reported catching good sized catfish and bass from the dock. It is 42 rather steep steps from the top of the property to the cement deck. There is a sturdy handrail but it is a bit of a climb. There are additional fishing locations nearby, including a popular spot near the dam.

The property sits high above the water, which adds to the quality of the view but which also translates into a climb of 42 steps from the dock to the top of the bank. While the steps are steep (because of the vertical drop of the bank), a solid handrailing is in place.

No smoking or pets are permitted in the house. Additional offstreet, hard surface parking is available in addition to the three parking spots located on a cement area between the house and the patio.

PLEASE NOTE: We are not a property that allows party or events.

The house offers:
Central air/heat
Above the stove microwave
Coffee makers (drip and Keurig)
Crockpot
Patio furniture
Charcoal grill(s)--usually there are three large Weber units available (you provide charcoal)
Firepit
Ice maker in full sized refrigerator
Fully equipped kitchen with full size appliances
Pots and pans
Dining needs such as dishes, silverware, glassware
Higher speed Wireless internet access
Good selection of toys in the closet off of the living room
Hardwood floors
Bedding and towels provided
Laundry facilities
All on one level
Adjacent to a small park
Near public boat launches
Near public swim areas

As a heads up, the property does have a separate upstairs unit (no common areas) that is sometimes rented on a longer term basis to someone working in the area on a short term work assignment.

We also personally maintain an apartment in the garage, which is a separate building, and which we occasionally use. While we typically are not present when guests are staying at the property, there is a chance that we could be or that we could stop at the property to pick something up from the apartment, etc.

Over stated property on VRBO
We have stayed in this property many times in the past few years. It is an old house that needs a lot of TLC. It needs updates! It needs paint in and out. It is dark inside. Some lights don't work. There are old chairs sitting alongside the house that are junk. The DVD player does not play Blue Ray disks. The TV is a joke. All the electrical receptacles are a nightmare of wires and look like a fire hazard. The kitchen floor was sticky, The front door and entry are dirty and old and in need of help. For the price we paid this is a rip off. It should be at a much lower price. Thanks! P. S. Nice view of lake.

Staying with Grandma
Please be aware- the owner "stays" in the garage/bungalow on the premises,(or uses it as an excuse to stop by) so it's much like staying with angry grandma- who has a strict curfew. Difficult to totally relax. The patio is by far the best feature, and the view is breathtakingly beautiful. But be aware, although there is enough seating for 20 or more people, she is very strict about only allowing 8 people on the patio. So it won't work for any sort of family or friend gathering. And she DOES check in, to make sure you are complying. We discovered that there are MANY places on the same lake with equal or even better views. The Back door (which is the main entry door) only opens half way as it gets hung up on the warped floor. So, larger luggage will need to come in the front door. The kitchen is sparsely supplied and the drawers, original to the house, flop forward when you open them, making all the contents become disheveled. The supplies that are provided are in a hot mess, making it hard to find things, and difficult to actually cook there. Also-There was a lovely centipede who resides in the tub, on a daily basis (in all fairness, it is an older house, so he might be original as well)

Very nice place
We were in town for a family reunion. This house was centrally located to where we were going. Everything was as described in the house. Owner was responsive. We would definitely stay here again.

Very comfortable home with beautiful lake property. We buried our mother in Nashua on Friday. We got together with some relatives on the patio for a meal, was a really nice day & perfect for us. We really enjoy watching the owls also, they were very entertaining!

We have been residents of northeast Iowa our entire lives and enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of the area. We operate this home and seven others, each on a short term basis and enjoy assisting families in getting away from it all to a quiet, relaxing area.

Why they chose this property

We intend to retire to this property and purchased it because of the view. The interior of the house was renovated in 2012, a large paved patio was added in 2014. and a large covered porch was added in 2017. We like the character of the house--there's something very special about the natural lighting inside the house! The neighbors and neighborhood are great!

What makes this property unique

After looking at several houses on the lake, we knew we'd found our spot when we stood on the bank and envisioned ourselves enjoying our coffee there each morning during our retirement years. We liked having a small park next door because it will provide room for our grandkids to play.
The Nashua area is rather rural so the town itself is generally quiet and filled with friendly people. There is an awesome ice cream shop within walking distance of the house.
